Glad you got to try them!! Yeah a common method is to just crack it with your hands and peel it open, but the knife is easier in my opinion. You are very welcome!

My very good friend had these on offer at a birthday party a couple of years ago. I live in a pretty diverse area, so these are easy to find whether in Asian markets, specialty markets, or even in some of our big box grocery stores. He called them Dragon's eyes, and true to that name, if you just split them straight through with the pit, they do in fact kind of look like what you imagine a dragon's eye to look like. I just finished introducing these to my parents who enjoyed them. Such is the beauty of food to be able to share your experiences with others, and have them pass that experience on to others.
Hi Matt, My husband said that a Vietnamese gal at work brought a bunch in for everyone to try a while ago. While watching your video he remembered & said that these are really good. Thanks for the education on fruits around the world. You always have fun & informative videos. 😊
That is awesome! If you want to find them, try the nearest Asian/International market to where you live now, if there is one. They will probably have them when it is the season. And thanks to your father for serving!
Just bought these today for my son and I to try. Super excited! Thank you for this video. Simple, to the point and easy to follow along (great when you’re trying new things).
Thanks for the detailed review! I tried these out of curiosity from a farmer's market and I find them to be absolutely delicious and a very healthy way to curb a sweet tooth.

Yes I had them at a Halloween party about 10 years ago. I didn't know what they were called, but recently found them at a fresh market in Kansas City, Missouri. I have been looking for them for a long time, you always remember that taste.
Bought this at Costco. Didn’t use any tool (ie. Knife). Just used my fingers to open the shell and to poke the fruit out. It tastes like lychee, but sourer 🌞
Awesome! And you are welcome. You can also try just pinching it firmly in your hand until it cracks then open it without using a knife. That is how I originally used to eat them and is a common method. Sometimes they are kind of hard to open that way though.
Noticed these at Safeway! Expensive, at 2 fruit for a dollar. However, I couldn't resist trying a new food, so I bought a couple! Then I came here and tried it while watching your video. It is like a slightly sweeter, huge green grape! I could see cocktails being super tasty with this fruit, especially with citrus or mint.

Wow! Wow! That is too cool. I can't say i will get to try this but clicked because it's so unique and at least i'll know how if i ever get the opportunity lol
I just found these at my local supermarket in the southeastern US and it looked interesting enough to buy and try. I ate a few and came on RUclips to see if my opinion matched with others.... and yes. The closest thing I can compare them to are really sweet white grapes. Both taste and texture. A little pricey at at over $4 a pound, but worth it to try a new flavor.
I also just found them last week, in New Orleans area! They were on sale actually, so I could not resist picking them up. Thanks to this video, I was able to open them so my lovely daughter and I could try them. Pretty good!
Thank you, I too discovered the fruit on my first Asia trip and loved it. Still do. Trying to entice my friends into trying it and they are joking about its look! One thing is you are the first person I see use a knife. I always see and I do same, people squeeze it break the thick peel off skin then pull it off and enjoy the fruit. Thanks again, nice video!
You are welcome!! Yeah when I was in the Philippines that is how we ate it, by squeezing it with our hands. However a lot of times they can be hard and people with weaker hands have a hard time squeezing it until it cracks. I have noticed that the imported fruit we get here seems to be harder than when I was in the Philippines. But still able to open it with your hands. A knife is so much easier for people with weaker hands though.

I LOVE this fruit so much😍😍 it’s really delicious 😋 it is kind of expensive in my country too ( Kuwait) but it’s worth it😋 also don’t you feel like the seed is kinda edible?😂 it’s not hard
The seed is soft enough to eat, doesn't have much flavor and is very slightly bitter. The link: fruitinformation.com/rambutan/are-rambutan-seeds-edible/ Says they are edible but slightly toxic unless roasted, and then they taste like roasted almonds.
You are very welcome! Another method I didn't show on how to open it is to squeeze and pinch it with your fingers and it will crack open, but sometimes they are too hard for that. But that is a very common method as well. Let me know what you think once you try it!
Awesome! Yeah I have noticed them popping up in normal stores other than the International market where I normally buy them. Seems like they are getting a bit more popular in the States.
You are welcome! I didn't show the common way of just breaking them open with your hands, because sometimes they are a little hard, but most people in the Southeastern Asian countries open them that way.
You seem to be a real good human being... That's what my instinct says.. Such a glorious smile.. Surprised how u could reply to almost every comment. I just tried a rambutan today after ages.. Always hesitant to try new fruits coz I completely dislike sourness. But this was so sweet. Lovely video and yeah keep smiling spread the love. Stay blessed ❤️
Never heard of these before but saw them at a grocery store yesterday and wanted to try it. Probably my new favorite fruit. It reminds me of a quenepa, you eat those the same way too.
Awesome!! Glad you found them at Costco. It is awesome that more and more places have started selling this fruit, instead of having to go to the International market to get them.
I am currently having the vacation in the Philippines and my mom bought me rambutan! I tried it for the first time and it was delicious, but the part I was worrying about was peeling off a piece of the fruit and getting the skin from the seed stuck in it, but I’m glad to hear that it was still edible 😅
An Asian here that lives in Malaysia you can get this anywhere and I eat it almost everyday now lol, it's really really delicious, one of my favourite fruit I grow up eating it.
I just got these at Walmart, I try all the different fruits there, I just pealed it slowly like and orange, as the outer casing is soft and easy to peel.
Yeah.., its just awesome.., sweet n little bit sour.., I m a from a small village... I get lots of fruits here..., I gave some for my frnd ,she didn't heard abt this fruit so i shared your link to her...how to eat rambuton...😃😃😃🎷🎷🎷🙏😊
I just started seeing them at my local market. I bought two small ones, $3.99 per pounds, about 23 cents a piece for these two small ones. Good, interesting, but not as sweet as I expected. Could be due to shipping from Asia to San Antonio Texas. But I enjoy tasting new things also, especially fruits and veggies. Last year I tried Fresh Jack Fruit for the first time.....love it fresh....yes tastes like juicy fruit chewing gum. I haven't tried cooking it yet. When our market first started selling it, they had the giant jack fruit cut into smaller portions for those of us living alone and I enjoyed it every time I could get a smaller portion. Now, they only sell the full giant ones and way to much for me to handle or to eat. I just found your video by searching rambutan......I am looking forward to to seeing more of your videos. :-) Thanks for sharing your info with us. :-)
Literally just picked these up from my local food pantry. No one knew what the heck it was I kept saying “ It’s a Lychee” 😂 So wrong…Got home now and googled the name on the packaging. Gonna try it soon Thank you for showing how to cut it 😊
Found these at a Whole Foods and my 3 yr old daughter thought they looked cool so we got some to try. Found your video trying to figure out how to eat them 😅 About to go try them right now!
@@inthekitchenwithmatt We both loved them, my wife did as well. Question: when you bite it off the pit there’s a thin layer of it that stays stuck to the fruit, is there a technique to keep this from happening or do you just eat it?
@@brian12357 Awesome! Yeah sometimes that will happen where a thin skin from the pit attaches to the fruit, it is okay to eat it, just don't eat the actual pit haha. Not really a technique to prevent that from happening.
Thanks, Matt. I picked up some from my Costco. Thankfully, I live near a Costco with a diverse Asian community. So via Costco, I was introduced to Jack fruit and fish skins.
You are welcome! You are the second person that I heard found these at Costco. I haven't seen them at my Costco. So I always have to go to my local Asian market to find them, which I don't mind going to, because there is so much good stuff there that they don't have at my supermarket.
Hi, Matt. That's true, all Costco's don't carry certain items. They tend to cater to the community. So if you go to a Costco in a large Asian community, you may find products from Asia. My Costco has a lot of products from China. About a year ago, I started seeing more products from Japan.
@@awhites8061 Awesome! I recently just saw Rambutan in my local normal supermarket. They have a little section where they sell more exotic fruits, and they are finally starting to branch out even more with the fruit.

fruitinformation.com/rambutan/are-rambutan-seeds-edible/
Says they are edible but slightly toxic unless roasted, and then they taste like roasted almonds.
seed not edible... but seed skin is safe...
Im here because I'm about to try one for the First time Ever!!!
Let me know if you like it!
Rambut = hair. So when it have so many hair, they call it Rambutan
Same like Durian. duri = thorn. So many thorn, they call it Durian😌
Yep!
Thanks for the demo. Was given the fruit, but nothing else. So now I'm excited to try it, instead of what the heck I'm to do with this!
You are very welcome! Another method I didn't show on how to open it is to squeeze and pinch it with your fingers and it will crack open, but sometimes they are too hard for that. But that is a very common method as well. Let me know what you think once you try it!
Ive always just used my teeth to cut these😂
You can use your hands too! Don't use your teeth haha.
I just use my nails and peel it off
Just bought some of these last night to try. Thx for this!!
Awesome! You are welcome! :)
Hmmm...always learn something new from you. I must try these out if I can find them at my local Asian market. Off to go Rambutan hunting. lol. Thanks!
hehehe awesome, Joy! Let me know if you find them and how you like them. :)
Costco had rabutan last week,I've been enjoying them all week! Like sweet, creamy grapes with no acidity.
Awesome! Yeah I have noticed them popping up in normal stores other than the International market where I normally buy them. Seems like they are getting a bit more popular in the States.
yes we call this rambutan also from Indonesia. it tastes like lychee 😁
Awesome!
just brought these today can’t wait to try them !
Awesome!!
Thank you for sharing I just got these as a gift and your video helped a lot
You are welcome! Glad the video was helpful :)
This fruit is renamed to Covid-19 fruit. Pls. bear with that.
What why?
I saw them at Trader's Joe but was unsure how to eat one. Thanks for the explanation.
Thank you, I appreciate it!
@@inthekitchenwithmatt 😊😇
Never heard of these before but saw them at a grocery store yesterday and wanted to try it. Probably my new favorite fruit. It reminds me of a quenepa, you eat those the same way too.
Awesome!
It really is good. I got really lucky and found these today at Sams Club for a really good price. I've been wanting to try them, glad I did!
Awesome!! Glad to hear they are being sold at Sam's Club!
Just ate one Matt! They have at Costco right now. So yummy! Thanks !
Awesome!! Glad you found them at Costco. It is awesome that more and more places have started selling this fruit, instead of having to go to the International market to get them.
Very delicious fruit. I love it. Just ate about 10 ❤hi from Trinidad and Tobago

I am currently having the vacation in the Philippines and my mom bought me rambutan! I tried it for the first time and it was delicious, but the part I was worrying about was peeling off a piece of the fruit and getting the skin from the seed stuck in it, but I’m glad to hear that it was still edible 😅
Awesome, glad you got to try this fruit! I was in the Philippines too when I first had it. Such a yummy and cool fruit.
They are good. I have friends from Vietnam that shared these with me.
Good indeed!
An Asian here that lives in Malaysia you can get this anywhere and I eat it almost everyday now lol, it's really really delicious, one of my favourite fruit I grow up eating it.
Yeah I eat it a lot when I lived in the Philippines, so good!

I just got these at Walmart, I try all the different fruits there, I just pealed it slowly like and orange, as the outer casing is soft and easy to peel.
Glad you tried it!

@@bharathigopalsaxo6127 Agree, so awesome and tasty. :) Glad you shared the link with your friend :)
I just picked some up at the store and I love them!!!! So yummy and flavorful!
Awesome! Glad you tried them and liked them!
I just tried the rambutan fruit. It is sweet and tasty. Yum!
Glad you tried it and liked it! :)
After reading some of the comments......I am 75 now and this is the first I have tasted a rambutan. Gonna buy some more next shopping trip. :-)
That is awesome! And you are welcome!
Glad you got to taste them and liked them!
It is 1st time I bought today. Delicious! Usually they are too expensive for me.
That is awesome that you got to try it and liked it! :)
Literally just picked these up from my local food pantry. No one knew what the heck it was I kept saying “ It’s a Lychee” 😂 So wrong…Got home now and googled the name on the packaging. Gonna try it soon Thank you for showing how to cut it 😊
Awesome! You are very welcome, you will have to let me know if you like them or not.
Just tried this fruit & it's so good
Awesome!! Glad you tried it and liked it!
Those are super sweet and addicting.
Agreed!
Found these at a Whole Foods and my 3 yr old daughter thought they looked cool so we got some to try.
Found your video trying to figure out how to eat them 😅
About to go try them right now!
Awesome! What did you think?
@@inthekitchenwithmatt We both loved them, my wife did as well.
Question: when you bite it off the pit there’s a thin layer of it that stays stuck to the fruit, is there a technique to keep this from happening or do you just eat it?
@@brian12357 Awesome! Yeah sometimes that will happen where a thin skin from the pit attaches to the fruit, it is okay to eat it, just don't eat the actual pit haha. Not really a technique to prevent that from happening.
@@inthekitchenwithmatt awesome thank you for the reply!
This was a great new fruit discovery for my whole family!
@@brian12357 You are welcome!!
I'm a sri lankan I'm rambutan is my fav fruit and its so sweet I eat like 50 rambutans in 3 days XD . Nice
Awesome!
I tried one its really so yummy and my favorite too..
Awesome! Glad you tried it and liked it.
Thank you...it's my first try and it's yummm
You are welcome! Glad you tried it and liked it.
Thanks for the directions. About to go cut my first rambutan 😳
You are very welcome!! You can also just use your hands to crack it open, which is a traditional method, but sometimes they are a little hard for people to open that way.
I e been eating for years and they are delicious!
Delicious indeed! Glad you like them!
