- What’s it like driving as a wheelchair-user? It might surprise you. This video shows not only how I drive, but also how I get my wheelchair in the trunk by myself (without a lift). I hope that you enjoy watching!

Disclaimer: Full paralysis is not a prerequisite for using a wheelchair. Many wheelchair users can stand and/or walk. I am not fully paralyzed and am able to stand and walk with assistance. Over the years, my neurological issues have progressively worsened, so using a wheelchair is the most optimal way for me to live my life to the fullest.

The best adaptations are the simplest ones you come up with on your own. Thanks for sharing your driving hacks.
Hey, Andrew! I couldn't agree more!! So glad you liked them! 😊
Great idea! I was recently diagnosed with a neurological disorder, which makes it so I can “stand and move”, but I cannot trust my legs to work whenever I need them to, or not give out on me suddenly and without warning. So I’ve been trying to figure out what to do if I want to go somewhere on my own, but am not well enough to use my forearm crutches at that time, or am anticipating a “longer outing” that might make not using my chair too risky. My chair doesn’t disassemble the way a lot of chairs do in the videos I’ve been seeing so far, so I found this to be EXTREMELY helpful! Thank you for taking the time and work to make this video and show it to us!!!!
I love how people who are not disabled tell you to do better/progress instead of applauding what you are doing - you are doing awesome. I can't even imagine doing what you are doing. I have Multiple Sclerosis with numbness in my feet since 1999 and weakness bilaterally. I can't drive and would need hand controls. I don't have the strength to do what you do. I am going to be 55 in August - if my ailments had hit me at your age and your body style, I think I would have had a better shot (older and overweight) - however - you are doing well. My second husband was born with spina bifida and paralyzed since birth. He wore braces on both legs and he would put his chair in the car (used a 2-door car). That is also a viable option. I had a saturn - loved which was a 3-door. Another option -don't think anyone makes a 3-door or a suicide door except for vans now. - Do what you can, sweetheart. Your mobility is your business. Getting around easily and pain-free is what is important - life is hard enough for those with disabilities. Hugs.
Thanks for sharing your video. We have many people with incomplete paralysis. I suffer from a neuromuscular disease (Lou Gerigh) and to preserve my independence I do something similar to what you do. I'll refine it with what you teach. Thank you pretty young lady
Congratulations to you. Making the most of what you've got.
Awesome video and beautiful smile 😊 If only everyone were as determined and creative as you. Keep going...enjoy and live life. I’m a fan.
Yo, this was great! I’m a c5/c6 sci for 5 years now and haven’t tried driving yet I can’t wait 🙏🏻 I wish you the best! Too bad you’re too young for me because you are a beautiful human

Great job Ren! Like yourself I drive without hand controls, put my wheelchair in the trunk, and walk around to & from the driver's seat.
I'm a L3/L4 incomplete SCI walker & roller.
Thanks, Luis! It's awesome to hear I'm not the only one tugging the 'ole chair into the trunk, haha! High five! 🖐🏻😀
Lots of love to you, keep it up,the smile on your face at 4.07 ,loved it
THIS WAS BEAUTIFUL!! You seriously inspired me!! I am going through a similar stage in my life and you have shed so much positivity just in this video!!! Thank you Ren!!! May I also ask, how did you do your banner? It's amazing, I can never get my full picture like yours to show... it always cut half of it out... lol. Any tips?
Thank you, Jasmine!!! 💗 I am so happy to have inspired you! So much love to you!!! 💕 As for the banner, thank you! We honestly just had a picture that worked with the parts RUclips cuts out. It really helps if you have an image that is very large! RUclips recommends at least 2560 pixels wide by 1440 pixels tall!
This is fantastic on so many levels!
Wow! I love your videos...your voice is so chill

Wow, that is very clever, not to mention your determination, keep up the great job, this without a doubt it’s a grace of God that gives you the strength to overcome all, most important is to seek God in all and He will continue to bless you like you never imagine.
How do you control the sensitivity of the throttle / braking if you have poor / to none sensation in your feet?
Never heard about being paralyzed bellow the ankles. Usually it's the whole feet. What happened?

@@amagnonbaba3560 I got the same paralyzed after a bone cancer tumor removed my spine nerve was damaged
Muito simpática 😍
I guess the sensation of "your feet is still there" is a sensation called propioception. The brain differs between two kinds of propioception, one transmitted through the frontal pats of the spinal cord (Tractus Spinothalamicus -> contact pressure) and one in the parts near your spine (Fasiculus gracilis -> the feeling where your bodypart is). It may be that just one of those is damaged.

Did you have to do anything with your license? Special classes or anything? I am in a similar state as you after a spinal cord injury
Adaptiveness is good..
But I feel if a person can walk atleast 3-4 steps without Wheelchair, 99% battle is Done..
What if you couldn't walk those 3-4 steps.. then how could you take out your Wheelchair from car..
Think...
Stay fit
Keep smiling
Keep Progressing
