  • The carousel at Bear Mountain State Park was built in 2001 for Bear Mountain Park by The Carousel Works. The cost of $5 million for the carousel and the enclosure. Instead of the traditional horses and circus animals, there are animals native to the area, such as black bear, wild turkey, deer, raccoon, skunk, Canada goose, fox, swan, bobcat and, rabbit. There is even an otter. Also featured are hand painted scenes of the park.
When I was there, the park was full of people, but there didn't seem to be much interest in the carousel. Because it is a new carousel, the music is from a recording played from speakers. Sadly no music was playing. Who would have a carousel without music? Maybe it was turned off because the employees are tired of hearing it or turned off for a prior event, I see they have weddings here? If the music could be heard in the park, no doubt there would be more riders. It's only $3 to take a ride.
The Carousel Works of Mansfield, OH declared bankruptcy in 2021. This company also made the Bug Carousel at the Bronx Zoo.
