Fishing Wild Waterfalls for Elusive Cutthroat Trout!

  • The water in this creek was some of the clearest that I've ever fished! On top of that, it had large waterfalls falling into big bowls. Cutthroat trout could be seen in large numbers, but fishing for them was not going to be easy. Stealth would be of the utmost importance in this crystal clear creek. How do I end up doing...?

    I so much love that you started to take the close-ups of the fish with their heads under water. It's horrible that us fly fisher men should know about our prey, but even catch-and-release-guys don't seem to bother about the wellbeing of the creatures. Thank you for doing your best and thank you for this - and all the other - awesome videos of yours. Beste Grüße from Germany - you rock!

      Thanks so much!! I really try to keep the fish in tip top shape ... hate seeing videos where people keep them out of the water while talking about the catch etc. Glad you're enjoying my stuff!

    I know the wading and casting does most of the spooking but a camo hoodie wouldn't hurt. You find such awesome water.

      I agree! I pretty much just wear it to stand out a bit more in thumbnails for a few extra clicks. I'm also out there mostly for the scenery and the creative process of filming, not necessarily to catch as many fish as possible (as long as it isn't zero). My stupid bonefish carribean blue sunshirt will be sticking around haha! Thanks for watching, always appreciate your comments.

    Not sure what was more gorgeous-the landscape, that amazing creek, or that first stunning cutthroat. The added cover of the broken water surface was just the ticket (I think cammo clothing is overrated). Nice job Chris! BTW, that was quite the voluminous breakfast for one guy!

      I'm not sure I have too strong of an opinion on camo, although I think I'd lean towards my silhouette, no matter the color, being more of an impediment to my fishing success than anything! I've definitely found that rapids are typically all I need to fool some fish, as you mention! Then again, maybe it's a small gain but "every little bit helps" kind of thing with the camo. Anyways, thanks for watching as always my friend, and for sure, it's hard work filming out there ... gotta try to fatten up the reserves haha!

      It was surprisingly busy when I was there. Would love to check out some of the other more canyon-y sections next time I visit! Appreciate you watching, maybe I'll cya out there!

      @@FlickyFlies I have had better luck further up in the valley section. The last few years the canyon section has been hit hard. You still have to be stealthy but the cuts seem more eager to eat up there.

    • @FlickyFlies
      @FlickyFlies  7 месяцев назад

      Like further towards the alpine? I can see why the canyon sections are busier, of course, they looked really desirable.

      @@FlickyFliesYes. Upstream from the old closed bridge. There is probably a couple miles of fishable creek before you hit the steep mountain cascades/waterfalls. There are 2-3 deep switchback runs up there that are usually good also.

      Hah, you like that?! Was hoping someone would catch it. I'd like to pick up a little tanago rod for some microfishing someday! The Fieldmaster seems like a sweet rod too. Thanks for watching!

    A beautifully photographed and edited outdoor adventure! Yes, ultra clear and shallow water poses a pretty extraordinary challenge, but all in all I think you adapted quite well! Thanks for sharing this with us.

    Thank you Flicky, I wish I could keep up with you. You have already told me the near white shirt is more camera/RUclips friendly. Your shirt looks like the underside of an eagle or osprey. Just a suggestion. Have an industrious seamstress sew the white back of this shirt to the camo front of a different shirt.

    • @FlickyFlies
      @FlickyFlies  7 месяцев назад +1

      Hey George! Thanks for the comments as always! Yeah, it's definitely just a RUclips thing, and I'm sure it does no favors! I like the idea. If I ever designed a "Flicky Flies" sunshirt for sale perhaps I'd design it in such a way that the back popped a bit but the front was camo. Might only apply to fellow RUclipsrs but I think that could look pretty cool.

      Au Contraire, some hunting activities might be safer with a camo front/blaze orange back. Turkey hunters dress like a bush, hide in a bush, and make noises like a turkey. They might be less likely to get shot in the back if it was blaze orange. A smart, connected person could make a fortune with an idea like that. If you use my idea and make a fortune, look me up and take me fishing.@@FlickyFlies
