For sure. Its big and heavy this way, but saved me a lot of time getting the dash out. This job was heater core only, but the evap can be done the same way. Tricky getting the box screws out but you can get the case split with it still attached to the dash frame
Hi Dan. Hi to everyone also. Writing from Montreal. Same problem with heather door and actuator. I have a question; how do I separate the steering column under the dash? Can't figure it out? Thanks
If you are having to replace the heater "door" meaning the blend door, you may have to de-skin the dash and pull the HVAC box seperately. The actuator I imagine you could probably get to with this method. As far as the steering column, pull the lower pinch bolt and the joint will seperate.. you may need a pry bar to help "collapse" one shaft or the other.
If you need to remove the entire column, you will have to remove the lower braces on the driver's side and then typically there is 4~ nuts/bolts holding the column up.. I left it in place and just seperated the rag joint @ the pinch bolt they just slide together
@@WorkingManDan I'm flabergasted to see that I received an answer from you (not that I didn't think otherwise but I never thought to receive any from anyone(signe that that we must never underestimate things). Thank you sincerely for that. I finally was able to take the all dash out since I didn't know that I had to take off the pinch bolt completely. One other thing, I had to empty my hvac refrigerant. Didn't think about it either. Hard job. Not to be done by green ones. A lot to take apart. A lot to reassemble.
@@supermanmanofsteel6084 I try to respond as often as I can, I feel like the more info out there the better we all are. I didn't mention the ac because like many other things it is pretty standard on these jobs. But yeah definitely very involved.. and very heavy.. Im pretty stout and I had to borrow another guy to help move the dash out. But saved me a lot on the labor time
2018 is a different generation, different interior so not going to be the same.. it may be similar, with the way GM likes to stack the dashes together. But no, I haven't had one apart yet to know if it can be done the same way
Wtf.. GM. No wonder they have so much controversy in the negative.. thats wayyy too much, and definitely unnecessary space.. ive just been wondering why my dashboard to windshield space is so wide
