A good preventive measure, GM makes a oil fill cap, it vents if pressure reaches a certain level and will save you from blowing out a rear main seal. I paid like $12 for the oem pressure release oil cap. FC219 is the GM oem vented cap model number, get one, will save you a lot if pressure builds and will save your rear main seal.
I've had this call for 4 years 2012 The engine consumption is an issue The problem with the recall is you have to have blown your engine or pay for another engine for them to reimburse you for labor and fees. You can take your car to the dealership but they'll tell you the oil consumption is normal so don't waste your time. I just keep oil with me I'm about to switch to maybe 10W30 because it burns so much damn oil The car has had a lot of exhaust issues so far I fixed flex pipe muffler resonator catalytic intake manifold both VVT sensors the intake was the one that failed but I still replaced both and a power steering column which is ridiculously expensive. So if you want to try to have fun in the snow do not do it in this vehicle because the computer thinks you're spinning out and locks up the wheels and shuts down the power but if you try to override it by hitting the gas pedal you'll ruin your steering column trust me I learned the hard way.

I can write more precisely here, when driving in a curve or when turning at an intersection when it is necessary to wind the steering wheel full, there is some skipping, to express myself there... as if the wheel is blocked, or there is a rough bouncing, and the wheels turn properly turning is very difficult to explain... it means only when turning at an intersection or when I try to turn in a half circle. What is your opinion on what could be the problem? thank you in advance greetings
By what you are describing it sounds like a worn cv axle, I would look into that first. If not that it could be worn strut mounts. IF you take your van to any mechanical shop for inspection they should be able to diagnose it
@@QuiteAlright The car is awd 3.0, a couple of mechanics told me that a transfer case is possible, what do you think about that possibility? I connected the diagnostics, it doesn't throw any error, a couple of times it threw slippage, I don't know if it's because of what's happening at the back... thank you very much for the answer and advice
@@sladanborojevic511 It is possible. Transfer case usually makes more of a grinding noise when driving or turning. Your mechanic would have to test drive the vehicle and lift it on the hoist and listen to where the noise is coming from. If you are having hard time finding a reliable mechanic it is always a good idea to take the vehicle to a licensed dealer for a 1 hour diagnostics and then you can decide where you will have it fixed
What year is the engine recall for? My 2015 engine just quit. After excessive oil use I mean EXCESSIVE. I had a trip to Florida planned. Going from the top of Michigan I had an oil change before I left. Checked my oil when I got into Georgia and it was dry. Multiple places looked at it and said there was no leak. I had to put oil in it all the time and the engine just went out and I was quoted $7,500 to fix it.
There is a few class action law suits going on for the trans and engine oil burning/consumption on these cars. I'm pretty sure it's from 2010/ 2017. Check it out. You should be able to be reimbursed with your money if you had to fix it, out of pocket.
Just got a 11 Equinox but with same 2.4L engine. This thing is using 5L of oil per 100km. Just unreal. It was well maintained over the years, it is just factory error. Called dealership and there was extended warranty on this engine and for my specific VIN number for oil consumption where they would do almost complete engine rebuilt. But of course it expired 3 years ago lol.
@@Peanutbutter44_ur12 Yes I couldn't believe it. Uses more oil than gas and no leaks. We will be rebuilding the engine as used engines are too expensive
Im looking at a 12 terrain. I really like it and it starts and runs smooth. How common is this oil consumption problem? Im not concearned with burning oil as much as loss of compression from worn rings.
Unfortunately it is quite common on 11-13. Before buying I would call GMC dealer with VIN number and check if there is extended warranty for excessive oil consumption. It was offered on affected vehicles
I just bought a red 3012 GMC terrain as well. It sucks not knowing if it has problems or not til it's too late because it is such a great looking car. I wish used car dealerships could just be honest and got forbid just sell a working product and not try to cut corners lol. You got people who are handing over their entire life savings to you because then need a car and yet you got car dealers that can't be bothered to ensure it's gonna make it off the lot. Mine has bad motor mounts and a disrucbtiinal AC compressor but luckily the dealership is paying for the repairs
Based on the symptoms you described could be a bad starter, faulty ignition lock, bad battery, bad connection somewhere ( bad ground). Start with the battery and battery connections, then look at the starter, then everything else
My son has my old 2016 Terrain... 3.6 L engine with absolutly no hang up what so ever...The most problem I had were the brakes... After about 2 years the calipers get seazed on the sliding bolsts Had to take them all out and cleaned them... Also oil cooling lins going to the rad corroted and leaked.... Now backup camera is fogging up ..
Well AWD vehicles will often feel jerky when making full turns because of the rotational force. If something is blocking you from turning the steering wheel / wheels than you would have to inspect complete steering system (rack n pinion, pump, tie rods, shaft)
It could be a dozen of different things such as: misfire, bad fuel / air ratio, bad fuel mixture, one of the sensors failed, etc... really impossible to tell without looking at the vehicle
I had stalling with my 2.4 2014 Terrain. I added 6 ounces of oil thickener, I used bardahl no smoke, stopped my stall and my Terrain only had 45k miles when it started, I changed vvt solenoid, spark plugs, o2 sensor, cleaned throttle body etc etc. No codes, only thing that worked was the oil thickener. Over year and did not stall once after adding the bardahl no smoke, today changed oil with mobile 1 and lubegard biotech and stalled at every start, added 6 ounces bardahl no smoke and stall stopped. Vvt solenoids are really easy to replace.
Only thing i can think of is the cam shaft position sensors, mine went bad around 55k replaced them, you have to replace both of them at the same time.
I changed out the cabin filter in June 2023. Over the last month or so there is a moldy smell coming from the inside of the vehicle. I also changed out the engine filter same time. Do I need to change the cabin filter again?? I have a 2016 Terrain w 46K miles.
Hi, quite often if there is strange smell inside the cabin it comes from either oil leak or coolant leak from the engine and then it comes in through the air vents. Especially if something is dripping on the hot exhaust. I don't see how changing the filter itself again will fix the problem as it is almost new. There is something else you can try doing as well. There is Armor All Car Vent & Duct Cleaner Spray which will go through all of the ducts and clean / disinfect it. This are areas you can not reach. I use this spray on every vehicle before posting for sale as it gives it nice and fresh smell. Hope this helps
My 17 Terrain has been randomly failing to start. When I try to start it sometimes it will make a clicking noise and fail to turn over. I tested the battery with my multimeter and it tested fine idle, it didn't drop below 10v during cold crank, and the battery stayed at around 15v running. I went to AutoZone and it tested at 86%. So I ruled the battery out and now I'm maybe thinking it's possibly the alternator. I don't want to replace it if the issue could be somewhere else. I was just seeing if anyone has had a similar issue.
Hi. Most likely your starter is failing. Clicking and not turning ove is the most common symptom. When that happens you can try tapping it with something which should help temporarily. Also inspect the wiring towards the starter and make sure Starter relay (#63) is good
@@thenobodythatknowsbody If oxygen codes are showing up then run full diagnostics using higher end scanner to get the readings from all of the sensors. Possibly you only have to replace 1 or 2 sensors, or it could be a problem with plugged up cat converter. Seen that happening quite often recently
is there an actual RECALL on this motor? I was told there is not and if you have a WARRanty, that dept still has to determine the fault (you or the car). I bought my car USED with an extended warranty for engine/tranny. glad I did. my car was burning oil like mad. was putting in a quart a week. Warranty dept. said i was my fault for not changing it as schedule.. guess what, i only had my car 2 months from date of purchase. and dealer had it for over 3 1/2 months for repair, and they finally rebuilt my engine and had it back to me. but they did a terrible job as they did not clean the motor after rebuild.. it stunk of burning oil, antifreeze for the longest time. I took it back thinking it was leaking. but it was not. but Dealer stated there was no recall on this. not only that but i have a terrible radio issue as well.. no recall on that. and just recently, i had the transfer case replaced with a new one and the new one was faulty and had to be replaced again.. so i didnt have my car far another 3 months.. when purchased, it had less than 105, 000 miles. A good preventive measure, GM makes a oil fill cap, it vents if pressure reaches a certain level and will save you from blowing out a rear main seal.
It wasn’t a recall. It’s called a TSB (Technical Service Bulletin). TSBs and recalls are different things.
@@QuiteAlright5L of oil every 100km? Are you serious?
The cars only last 150K miles at most. Then the repairs cost more than car is worth. Trust me. I had a 2017.
What if the lights are all on and no dim nothing and it just won't start and no click sound? He might of brought it up but I'm not sure
Based on the symptoms you described could be a bad starter, faulty ignition lock, bad battery, bad connection somewhere ( bad ground). Start with the battery and battery connections, then look at the starter, then everything else
Watch RUclips before you buy a car. Car Wizard will tell you that this is one of the cars to avoid at all cost!
Thanks for sharing. I'm glad your Terrain is serving your family good. 3.6L is definitely an engine to go for
I have a 2016 and it’s not blowing air. I’ve checked the proper fuses but still not working. Any other ideas?
Hi. Most likely blower motor failed. If fan works only at a specific speed then blower motor resistor failed
Thanks a lot I appreciate your information
My pleasure
What can it be if I can’t make a complete full turns when making u turns on my 2016 gmc terrain Denali AWD
Well AWD vehicles will often feel jerky when making full turns because of the rotational force. If something is blocking you from turning the steering wheel / wheels than you would have to inspect complete steering system (rack n pinion, pump, tie rods, shaft)
Any idea of what causes the stalling? im tryin to help my parents with theirs -_-
It could be a dozen of different things such as: misfire, bad fuel / air ratio, bad fuel mixture, one of the sensors failed, etc... really impossible to tell without looking at the vehicle
@@QuiteAlright ok I get it. I was hoping since y'all run into it quite a bit, I'd get closer to fixing it
Get a scan reader it really helps, i had that stalling problem around 55k miles on it & i fixed it easily.
Thank you so much it helps a lot…
You're very welcome
I’ve had alot of issue with mine the worst is stalling at lights I have to keep it in neutral otherwise it shuts off
Hmmm try to scan for any codes. It could be as simple as a misfire and needs a tune up or maybe throttle body problem
It might be the p0411 code
Timing chain guide rod ….big problems.
Where is locate the sunroof motor in the gmc terrain 2011?
Should be under the headliner near the sunroof
Also inspect the wiring towards the starter and make sure Starter relay (#63) is good
Благодарю за информацию.
2015 radio frame in compatible with 2011 terrain?
Yes it should be the same 2010 - 2017
I have a 2015 and it run good the check engine light pop on sometimes but when I turn it off it shake real bad
You would have to scan the engine for the codes and then follow up based on the code
@@QuiteAlrightI gotten back oxygen codes mine shakes as well when I cut it off
@@QuiteAlright I just got it out a local dealership last month but I’m determined to fix these issues, I had to get a oil change as soon as I got it
@@thenobodythatknowsbody If oxygen codes are showing up then run full diagnostics using higher end scanner to get the readings from all of the sensors. Possibly you only have to replace 1 or 2 sensors, or it could be a problem with plugged up cat converter. Seen that happening quite often recently
Thank you sir
You're welcome
the only issue i see with the crossover is it's size. looks too big for me.
is there an actual RECALL on this motor? GET THE EXTENDED WARRANTY on any car.. its worth it.. i hate my car. dealership dont tell you about these problems.. now trying to figure out my radio problem ( turns on and off at will, controls dont work at times and screen goes black for a while then comes on)
My gmc terrain 2016 all of a sudden started making power steering noises n I pulled into circle k and it leaked and the wheel didn’t wanna move anymore.
Power steering hose cracked and fluid leaked out. Steering wheel will be very hard to turn. You will have to replace the power steering hose and possibly power steering pump in case it was working for too long without oil and is making noise
@@QuiteAlright yes it was and it’s costing me 991
@@Lisa7gee Sorry to hear that. Happens quite often in the winter time that's why newer cars are changing to electric power steering
@@QuiteAlright that’s what I didn’t get. My power steering is electric!
2017 catalytic converter died. $3600
So in a nutshell.... Don't buy a GMC Terrain. Got it!
They also have alot of problems 2.4L with high pressure fuel pump Going bad with check engine light and reduce power Indicating on dash. And makes the engine sound like loud exhaust manifold leak. I replaced High pressure pump 3 times for a customer all with in the same year. buy though O'reilly auto. It was still over $300 part. Probably would've been better to buy form dealer. still a manufactured Engineering defect..customer is saleing the GMC Terrain 2012. After repair smart choice.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge
my gmc is a 2011 slt model. the one day it just died on me. i tried starting it and it takes long to start and when it does it shakes. the car just wants to die out on me. it will stay running if im on the gas… i took it on a drive and it just doesnt want to get speed and it shifts rough. even when i put it in reverse it doesnt want to back up. idk whats wrong woth it so if anyone can help me and save me a bunch of money thatd be amazing
Hi it could be a ton of different problems. First thing to do is scan the system using higher end obd2 scanner and run diagnostics. It could be as simple as a major misfire, timing problem, etc.
The blend door actuators (made in China) are terrible.
agreed
How about the good things !! I have s 2010 . Eell maintained and probably the nest vehicle ive ever owned !!
I bought a used 2015 2.4L with around 145k miles and after putting 10k miles on it, I’m hearing and feeling knocking noises plus a weird back and forth idle, idk anymore 😂😫
Sorry to hear this is happening to you. This 2.4L engines are really problematic. I hope it is nothing serious. You will have to take it to good mechanic to have it diagnosed. Could be engine timing issue, we just did one recently with similar problems
No vehicle is without problems...
I will buy used Toyotas.
Anybody alarm go off randomly and stop ?
Could be caused by low battery voltage, faulty door lock actuator, electrical issues, key fob ,etc..
shiti card avoid it at all cost it so expensive to maitinante.
I reamed out the pcv valve orifice.
Me too. … but not my deferential is going out.. lol. Story of my life with this turd. (2017terrain 2.4L)
Omg tha anxiety you explain 😒
Well every make and model of a car will have problems. That is just the fact. This video should help you if you on a market for GMC Terrain what to look at
Never buy American made vehicles
older ones are great but not so much anything newer than 2008
Ur funny😜
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Its all about what U like, enjoy and able to afford, but Japanese vehicles are the best for ownership. The worst I ever owned were Land/Range Rover, BMW, Mercedes, .. all Euro in fact .. American vehicles are a mix, but the Japanese are on a different level. Try Lexus/Toyota .. any of their 10 year olds 100k miles is better than this modern trash sold today.
I owe one n I just got it out the shop this past Friday which was October 11,2024 it been in the shop for a whole month I’m from New Orleans and we had a hurricane last month in September I put my car in the shop September the 11 n they told me 2 weeks but like I said due to the weather it took longer but I understand that but I spent 2,600 I had put a used engine in the car and on today which is October 14,2024 my air is not working and my car is smoking black smoke and before I put the car in the shop the air was working perfectly now I asked them what they did they want to get mad I should be the one getting mad I spent big money and they want to tell me oh you should have never left with the car I said y’all told me the car was ready but to everybody out there do not buy this car run the other way please because you will be putting more money in the car then you paid for the car it’s sad to say be aware please take it from my experience please
Sorry this happened to you. Unfortunately 4 cylinder engines in Terrains and Equinoxes are terrible. Major timing and oil burning problems. Just recently had to replace one in Equinox which is the same engine and used ones are crazy expensive just because there are almost none in good shape. And we had to rebuilt the used engine prior to installing it. Lost $ on that one
Total BS
