How to Build a Crosskart in Your Garage: DIY Fully Independent Off Road Go Kart

  • This is not a Sierra Car! This is a Crosskart Chassis designed to take a variety of engines and components to fit your budget and your exquisite taste in driving, I named it the VF-1 for variable frame Kart. You can make it for dirt, asphalt or a mix of everything. My budget for each one was $5K, I too wanted a crosskart but there was no way my family would let me spend that much on one! I built the first one for myself (#27) and made plans and a walkthrough video series at the request of builders. I use affordable and easily available ATV parts to reduce cost and have used three different engines in the same chassis with great success. Builders who used the plans have applied other engines and even snowmobile engines! I followed the technical rulebook for the European Crosskart series for dimensions and safety, however, currently in the garage as the next build is a chassis that was stretched to show how easy it is to adjust the legroom when building the chassis (see link below). This is using a predator 420cc and has a build budget of $2K! Build yours however you want and show it off in the facebook group or on your own RUclips Channel! Sorry I do not sell Chassis or Complete Crosskarts, but show you how it can be done even if you are a first time builder. Enjoy the build! *Although this looks similar to a Sierra Car, I did not copy them in any way. My first one was designed in 2005 with the idea of converting ATV parts and well on its way to being built in 2016 before they ever released theirs. They make amazing machines and deserve the credit they are getting for bringing this amazing sport to the US. My hope is to make it so more people can participate.
If you decide to watch the detailed video series, know that I was new to RUclips and it took me a couple of video's to get the hang of editing. They get better and better as you go. Thank you for checking out the content.

@@KJRaycing4x4 may not be your desired driving style but as a Minnesota resident having the option during winter when snow accumulations are 30” + makes this a rig that can be used 12 months a year. I’ve enjoyed drifting my Yamaha Raptor 700 on a groomed snow track during winter. I used farm tillage equipment to work the snow & let it freeze forming a smoother more level surface to drift. 3rd gear get sideways, maximum counter steer, control drift with throttle input without spinning is a blast. Having a set of taller, wider winter tires has helped me get around during winter. Lowering tire pressure helps a lot. Having your plans with 4x4 options would potentially sell more plans & get more people building machines. Increase the market to winter, mud & in between. My .02$

I too am a visual person, but without a lot of knowledge, I would have no idea what you were trying to accomplish with each movement unless you explained it. Hence, it was like an old fashioned silent movie, except with grating music. At least 80s music would have been better.
