Solitude Fun Fact of the Day: A Yumyum is a traditional type of barbecue from Solitude island. At sunrise the male family members start to dig up a cooking pit and collect firewood. A suckling pig is prepared and roasted, while shrimps, yams, plantains or other bananas and coconut are wraped in banana leaves and cooked on top of the pit. In recent years sometimes a modern barbeciue of porkchops and shrimp is also called a Yumyum. But this is considered a great sin by many families proud of the tradition.
And bringing a pack of frozen pork and shrimp from the supermarket that is advertised as "microwave YumYum" is a sure way to upset your grandparents 😅 perhaps there could be "YumYum restaurants" where they use a large stone pit to make the local dish. That would make for a cool themed asset here and there 😀
Not so funfact of the day:
YamYam means "cannibal" or "man eaters" in the Turkish Language, The name is said to mean “great eaters” in the Dinka language, supposedly referring to cannibalistic propensities formerly ascribed to the Azande.
poor tiny piglet...
@@Kisamaism but so delicious
An interesting thing to notice is that the forest takes a looong time to reclaim deforested land. When you cut it down or burn it, but don't start construction right away, if fills to the brim with tall grass in less than 3 months (the vanilla tall grass cluster is actually pretty convincing; I wish there was a larger lower poly version of it, though). To keep the forest lush you have to leave it there for a long time. In this close proximity to an urban area, what you'll find most is tall grass, then primary growth (reclaimed) at the edges, secondary transitional growth farther away, and tertiary mature growth in preserved areas.
Fun fact. Your tree brush and detailing is so lush that it actually looks like tertiary growth, with mature and old trees and multileveled canopy. Secondary is usually an area that has remained untouched for at least 20 years, in which undergrowth has matured and fast-growing trees are thriving, but slower long-lived species are not dominating yet, which happens from 30 to 50 year mark or so, depending on the biome. So this city so far is a paradise in which people cut only what they needed, and built everything leaving those pockets of old forest in between developments. I wish it was like this irl, of course.
One thing you nailed, though, (besides the muddy football pitch, which is also 100% accurate) is the ammount of palms and coconuts near developed land. They grow faster than most trees, they have decorative value, and they give off useful things (the whole thing with people singing praise of coconut trees in Moana was no joke, they're really useful), so people plant them a lot, even in commercial plantations.
And people irl would just love that park. There would be event after event there, for sure. Unless it's in India, though, I think people would just trample over the cricket ground. lol
Thank you so much again Julia, really interesting facts and I'd love to try and incorporate areas with those levels of plant growth. Lots of inspo to consider, thank you!
the school yard's not too muddy at all - looks great!
Welcome to the Cities: Skylines where the detail queen builds a farm prior to the expanding city of Solitude, please have a good day. Oh, and enjoy a wonderful sensation of paradise!
I can't wait to see the lovely build you're making here (how about Palmina for a name?
Cool name. Reminds me of the name Palmyra (Syria)
Lovely name suggestion! Thank you!
@@fewcandy you're welcome
@@drjonritz oh really?
Looks fantastic. So glad to hear you mention rice fields for the next episode. Another idea would be to use bob to turn the fruit fields into a palm oil plantation. I reckon the date palm plant would look fairly close to the real thing.
Totally blown away by the detailing! Was looking for another channel to watch between city planner episodes.
Id love to see a part of the city as a totally overgrown rainforest with a spooky temple which could serve as a tourist attraction. Just an idea! Keep up the good work ❤
Great idea, thank you! And welcome to the channel 😄
The new videos and content are amazing. Always nice to see creators making new cities. Although topping Auridon is gonna be hard
It really is! But glad you are enjoying it so far!
My new favorite series, amazing build! Thank you for the video.
Aww thank you so much!! Glad you are enjoying it 😊
WOW! You must have the patience of a saint to create such fantastically detailed builds! And SO evocative in places too. I swear, if you added a netball court behind the ad-hoc football pitch you created, it WOULD be a junior school I once attended for about six months in Zambia back in the Sixties.
Amazing build as always. Wow, your attention to detail 😮
Really enjoying the vibes of solitude, you are really knocking it out of the part with this new series. 🎉
Thank you 😊
Solitude is so scenic. It's truly gorgeous with the mountain ranges all around, -and I love how it all fits together with the farm and the town. The bobbed fruit field is brilliant. I am looking forward to the next episode! As far as a name, Palmina, that Craftycatz suggested, sounds so pretty, and the town does have palms, for sure!
My brain is so hard wired to expect the Auridon intro music when clicking on your videos that I was so confused for a second there when it started 😂
Really love the new music though!
Haha it confuses me too!! And thank you!
incredible detailing! Love love love!
A cute little weather station complex build would be nice, I love that asset and the disasters assets. The disasters stuff would actually be useful dotted around in this climate, earthquake sensors and radio masts etc
100% agree here!
Thanks mackie! And definitely, great ideas thank you!
Really love the school build and the fame, amazing attention to detail. Amazing work! Solitude is so good, I really like the feel of this map and the builds.
Absolutely beautiful! Steep, winding, slopey, dirt roads up and over hills that only a mini jeep suzuki or montero mini could traverse = realistic. All those mud puddle decals look great with the LUT you're using.
Ooo yes we'll definitely be having some of those! Have some really cool jeep assets already scouted out and ready! 😄
39:10 That cinematic drop, bravo 👏
The details, the realism, the music, ugh what a great episode and wonderful beginning phase of what I’m sure will be outstanding series! 🤍
Thanks Duszh! ❤
Love the series and the build. From a livestock family. Livestock don’t tend to graze in row crop fields. fallow fields with medium length grass and maybe some bales for them to eat as well is the ticket here
You’re an artist with those decals and surface painter!! Maybe an awning or covering over the crates/boxes on the side of the train station so those goods don’t get damaged by all the rain wouldn’t go amiss. Loved how this turned out Few! 👍🏼
Such a cute city! I live in a tropical country, and for me the short bushy trees make this look like a citrus plantation plus some pork production. Probably this farm is owned by one family who employs most of the people in this town (they call the big man "Boss") and I think his wife Madam Siobhan employs the street vendors to sell some of their produce outside the school and medical center. Do you think you can have some street vendor props around the town? That would be very cute. Thank you for sharing this ❤
Thank you and love the lore and idea for the street vendors! Can definitely see what props I can find for that!
Most exciting new CS series by far.. almost 4000 hours in this game but still blown away :D
Wow thank you so much! Very kind!! Glad you are enjoying it!
Oooh that closing sweep of the cinematic *chef's kiss* Soooo good.
I love this farm build! Very different from the midwestern corn farms I usually make. I also like your trick with removing the trees, though part of me is wondering if it would be possible to use Bob to replace the trees with coconut palms or banana trees or something like that. Maybe do that with the pears and leave the apples empty.
That little rural cargo station is great too. I will need to pick that one up as it’s perfect for a farm or a small rural town. I think it would also not be a bad place to hide one of those flour mill blocks, since it’s already got the silos you’d expect a mill to have.
Didn't think you could outdo Auridons industrial detailing and yet here we are 🤩 Suuuper creative build FewC, I can't wait to see how Solitude progresses 😍
Loving the music too 🕺♥️
Thanks Malay! 😄
Wow, I love the muddy school, and oh myyy goodness the farm is drop dead gorgeous. Keeep up the amazing work.
What a stunning farm! Haha, never thought I'd call a farm 'stunning,' but here I am...
I am always so blown away at your talent, creativity, and ingenuity with this game.
I dream of the day when I can build on a map even remotely as beautiful as you! ❤
Ahh thank you Meesa!
I like how deliberate you are with your camera movements while you build. When I’m detailing I’m always zooming in, spinning around, etc. It really helps the Timelapse not get too hard to watch but I’m sure it can be annoying to think about while building so thanks for putting in that effort while detailing!
Typical Few Candy magic! Absolutely love how this rural farm turned out 😻
Solitude 💓 She'll be just as amazing as her big sis
Loved the school campus and I don't think I've seen anyone bob off all the trees from the fruit fileds but it was a real wow moment.
The details are top notch as always, making everything feel so alive.
Sass off in chat was the cherry on top 😆
Aww thank you Star!! The sass off was fun lol 😆
Loved the farm, particularly how you bobbed the Apple trees and added the decals to the animal paddocks. Wrapping every build in dense lush foliage is really helping to create that tropical mood.
idk what's with this series so far, but this makes me soooo warm inside! 😊
Very realistic, Inspirational and overall awesome video! Great work. Such a good looking farming area.
Love the cricket field! If the people of the Solitude Island love to play cricket, then it must be a Commonwealth County. Maybe should change the traffic as Left Side Traffic just like the UK and most of the Commonwealth countries.
Having a perfume industry called Angeline's Aromatics would be ideaaal!
Amazing idea using Bob on the fruit tree fields. Looks great!
Another great session, FewCandy! Love how detailed you create cargo areas. You might check out the asset of the guy on the animated forklift. It’s perfect for cargo set ups! Keep the great vids coming!
Will check them out! Thank you!
Gotta say it ... Just wonderful talent and skill! I'm lovin' this build Few. I'm a little late watching it as usual, but work and family life have been cray-cray lately.
The detailing just kept getting better and better, you have an amazing talent!! Absolutely gonna use the long weekend to catch up on all your other Skylines videos, I already know it'll be time well spent
Ahh thank you!! Hope you enjoy the binge! 😄
Wow oh wow that turned out great. Those block services are very useful
Got to excited, if that isn't a mood. Great video as always!
You know FC, I never was really into tropical maps or let plays but I think solitude is growing on me. Also you should drop the LUT and visual settings because it looks gorgeous.
You absolutely nailed it with that farm, so clever.
Another really great episode. Thank you. I loved the farm ideas. Just a thought. Bananas are a big export fruit. Perhaps changing out some of the fruit trees for banana trees? Mr. Maison has posted one and I know there are a couple others as well. There are also some industries plantations that are tropical in nature too.
Idea for a future build... Tropical storms and hurricanes are a common threat. Perhaps you could think of a way to build an area that's recovering from a bad storm with damaged and destroyed buildings and trees?
Your imagination and the quality of your detailing makes this a brilliant follow for me (been here since pretty much the beginning!). Rarely get to play much CS so great to live it through you Few.
Thank you! ❤
Another wonderful build!! Really love how you BOBed the tree fields to give them that unique texture. Will try that for my own city.
Also, this might totally be a me problem, but I found it a little hard to focus on the detailing in these two episodes because what you were saying didn't always line up with what was on the screen, e.g. when you were talking about detailing the school and the trainyard, but each time the video was fastforwarding through detailing the shops and farms instead. Thought you might wanna know how that could be distracting. But no pressure on changing it!!
Love this city, love that u and overcharged egg are at the same sort of stage in the city building. So great seeing u both take on similar builds at the same time!
Ahh thanks Bobby!
This shaping up to be a delightful series! Thank you FC.
You are the queen of detail! Just and amazing build FewC!
Finally catching up on the series! 999th like felt good. 😊 Loving the detail in this series. Where I live, there would never be a bar across the street from an elementary school 😅
This looks incredible FewCandy
Hey FewCandy. Just wanted to say how much I'm loving this series. Keep up the good work!
Thank you!!
I've never really used decals at all, but I always enjoyed the detailing as it was akin to model train building. Something I could not afford as a kid.
Have not played in quite a while and I am still trying to recover the broken mods that I used. Watching your videos has definitely inspired me to try props and decals.
Again, awesome video and build. Thank you.
Thank you! Glad the video can provide some inspiration! I probably over use decals sometimes though 😂 Good to find a happy medium!
awesome detail work as always, Few! really LOVE that little muddy schoolyard. and the unplanted trees idea? inspired!
Thank you so much Zan!! ❤
I'm enjoying Solitude a lot FewC! You know that we love your farm builds and this one is so good. The cargo station fits so well into the town, like it has a reason to be there. And you know? I'm really curious to see how you build a fishing town in this map when the time comes, I have the feeling it will be glorious (no pressure) 😊😊
Really loving how Solitude is shaping up. Amazing farm with superb attention to detail, could you add pig stys to the pig fields?
Your attention to detail is amazing , loving this series just subbed
Thank you! And welcome to the channel 😄
Another great build Few.... so creative as always.
Great build as usual, but how good is that outro music 🔥
Really loving the soundtrack to this series!! 🤘😎🤘
Great build as always!
I was so ready to charge into the comments with a cool name suggestion, but then the only idea my brain provided was "Palm Puddles" (like Palm Springs but puddles because mud puddles...) which is a legitimately terrible name for a town. Probably more apt for the name of a kiddie swim lesson group lol. But your town detailing skills luckily far exceed my town naming skills, and this was a fantastic episode as per usual!
Haha, I love the silly suggestions! Thank you!
Detail Queen at it again. Great build. I like the name Palms for your first district.
Lovely suggestion! Thank you!
You have consistently wow'd me every time I watch a new video. Awesome farm area. Amazing creativity FC. Great work my dear. Keep it coming! :)
Thank you!
What a build! 🎉❤ Love it. Really really realistic.
Thank you so much! 😄
Really loving the way Solitude is coming along FewC! The school area detailing and the farm look sensational!
Might I suggest Casuarina for the town name? I feel like it could fit the vibe really well.
Looking forward to the residential expansion next episode!
Lovely suggestion! Thanks Jason!
IVE BEEN WAITING AGES FOR THIS
Not just your level, but eye for detail is amazing. It comes from a real understanding of the assets too. Super strong. Followed you with bits recommended from OE for not that long but really pleased to start a city with you. So looking forward to seeing where you take it.
Is your theme tropical like Hawaii or the Caribbean? If it is the Caribbean the cricket pitch is a great choice.
Just so you know, I think the truck cab in the train yard is the wrong end of the trailer but I mean?!.. nothing! Big fan 🤜
Thank you! And welcome to the channel! It's going to be inspired from places all across the pacific region, but also some of Caribbean too, a bit of a mix! And yup, totally missed the trailer orientation! 😬
Just came across your channel for the first time and your build style and attention to detail are refreshing. Loving the videos so far. Name suggestion for the first area is Pine Prominence :)
Thank you and welcome to the channel! And great suggestion, thank you 😄
Bit late to the party. But this is great! I really like the farm, definitely prefer it to the mega farm vibe of the dlc. Top work as ever Few!
I joined the FewC crew at the first episode of Solitude and I now understand why she has such a devout following! I love your content, but wowzers, the level of detailed work you do is mind blowing! I think CPP could take a few tips from you for sure! I can't wait to see how you handle weather, disasters, airports, and large park reserves. Such a beautiful setup and your PC must be a beast! ^^
Thank you and welcome to the crew!! 😄 And yes, my PC is a bit of a beast 😆
Amazing, isn't it? Phil has given a shoutout to her already, saying he won't even try to match this kind of detailing.
@@juliahenriques210 Indeed, but man, ooooo, a collab? That'd be insanely awesome. ^^
Beautiful. Love the cricket grounds just love it. You’re doing brilliantly, I can’t wait to see the next instalment. Would also love to see planet zoo, but I’m obviously not pestering you just hoping you haven’t dropped it.
Thank you! And no haven't dropped it, just been super busy at work so it's taken a back seat but there will be a new episode next week!
38:26 that trailer being backwards on the truck is bugging me😅 great build overall tho
OMG! I did not spot that!! Thank you, will correct for the next ep!
I work at a tropical environment. You can never go wrong with Banana plantations.
Really love your work! 🤩
Thank you!
Great build. So immersive. Detailed. Honestly, I wish I had the PC to be abe to handle that number of foliage and ferns!! 🌴🌿🌱
For a French polynesia inspired build, perhaps the starting town should be _Vallée de l'Ouest_ (Westdale) 😅
Haha love that, thank you!
New sub here!! Enjoying the build. I would be remiss if I did not point out that one of the problems with farms like this in rural areas, is sight lines while driving at the corners when large vehicles make turns. Your lovely jungle foliage looks like it might be a bit much on a corner or two.
Looking forward to new episodes.
ALL the best, Gandalf
Welcome to the channel! And thank you! And thats a great point on the sight lines! 😅
I know I am late the series, and I dont know if you fix it later yet (will look for it) but the 2 semi trailers you placed at the rail yard are backwards....you places the semi truck on the rear end of the trailer. As a truck driver myself, I can also tell you that most of those trailers (and the rail frame trailers) would have a dedicated staging area for security/safety reasons. love your work and the music is top notch!
Thank you, and yes quite a few people spotted that so we do fix it later in the series! 😅
Super late catching up on the whole episode! It's freaking unbelievable the level of detail!!
Name suggestion for the school area " Schoolitude "
Haha love that! Thank you Heather!
Have a look at Noumea in New Caledonia. tropical island with French European settlement. Distinct blended capital city that could provide some extra inspiration, not that you need it…
Absolutely gorgeous. Just one thing i have to say, the semi trailers are backwards. Figured youd notice when you put down the semi but you didnt.
Yup totally missed it! Thank you!
this is for the residential areas in the hills, it can be named Fairview. It was the generated name of farm before you change it. started watching since the 1st episode of solitude
Ah I like that! Thank you!
@@fewcandy no problem
Beautifully done FC btw Westdale is a city in Shalgora, High Rock The Elder srolls II Daggerfall so maybe you can include it in your Skyrim named tropical island
Oo didn't know that!
@@fewcandy your welcomes FC , as you can see I’m trying to catch up with your series but it’s hard with a family a job 3 nippers a loving wife and RUclips channel’s among other things , I’ve no idea how we do it … But at least I know that your doing it and doing it well
Oh wow I love those curved Pergolas!
You've become to talented to fast Few! Detailing, Editing, narration, planning and building, its always a treat to see your work!
New to your channel and it’s brilliant. Love the attention to detail and now making my way through all the Solitude videos.
Very unimportant nit pick on this one - the blue lorry you added towards the end (43:16) under the trailer by the railway, has been placed at the back of the trailer not the front 😂
Ignore that. Just watched the episode where you say you’ve fixed it 😁
Thank you! And welcome to the channel! Yes the lorries were a large oversight 😂
very cool love this
Am I the only person who noticed at 37:22 that you dropped the truck onto the rear of the trailer as if it was the front?
I had a good laugh.
I'm wondering if you've been talking to Biffa cos he does things like that just to see if anyone notices.
I love the cricket field.
This is turning into another great build. :)
🤣 Thank you! It was entirely unintentional lol, but several of you have pointed it out, so thank you!! 😄
They actually don't cut fruit trees down because it takes years for them to grow back. They pick the fruit, trim the trees and the next year more will grow in
A little friendly personal opinion. Video content is good and I enjoy your series (except the boxed Music. Arrrgghhhh! Need mellow relaxing music :) ) Love the detail and design in general but I'm not a fan of endless cinematics, I enjoy the actual building and explanation behind the choices made. Keep up the good work , I DO apprecia te it. ;)
I was recently rewatching narcos and it made me think. Would you be willing to make a Medellin inspired area? Like those low income houses all over the hills? Really congested. I think it would look nice. Good ep btw
Yes! We'll definitely be having a couple of favella style residential areas in the map 😄 And thank you!
What about something crickett related as a name for that district. I would sugest 'Lord's acre'.
That's very British haha, maybe something from South Asia or Aus-NZ would be more fitting, considering the theme of this city
hi. you placed a lot of the apple trees. do they change farming to forest?
One fact is in a lot of these tropical regions, they do follow left hand drive😅
Great content as always. I have a question, though: Why do you and so many other creators choose to use prop fences rather than network fences? Node count vs. prop count?
Yes exactly that, there is a mod to extend prop count, but not node count, so reaching that is a city killer! Plus there’s a lot of nice prop fences on the workshop 😄
Great build, but music was real loud.
been watching you since your first youtube build
Is the Coin laundry building an asset from the workshop or a dlc?
It’s from the University City content creator pack!
That’s still genius with the Bobbed Apple 🍎 fields - and those curved pagolas omg - question 🙋♂️- were you able to rid those track ending warning icons, and if so, how?
Thanks Brad!! And no 😭 still got the warning signs, unless I connect up the two ends I just have to ignore them!
Isn't that truck at 38:28 facing the wrong way 😁
❤
