Had the pleasure of coaching against Mike Sweeney a few years back as he coached his younger son. He’s the truth, calm demeanor, kind, great approach with a phenomenal team. His presence just makes you want to be a better man.
Just met Coach Sweeney on a pregame tour at Angel Stadium this weekend. He genuinely seemed so humble and we had a brief conversation before taking photos together. He seemed more excited to meet me, and left a great impression. These young Royals have one awesome mentor!
I came from MA to a KC fan fest back in 2009 with my baseball loving grandmother. Mike was incredibly interested and genuinely caring. Some people come off as if they have some ulterior motive or putting on a front but Mike is the real deal. Such a great positive podcast in a sea of athletes being gossiping naysayers.
Love this podcast and as a life long Royals fan much respect to both you and Sweeney. You guys are a part of what has made Royals baseball a rich and proud tradition in KC, even through the tough times. I feel we have been so lucky as an organization to have such great men! Will always be Royal!
So after the last podcast with Totty and sitting down and talking with my son about how he has been able to handle the situations around him and bounce back and win the gold/platinum glove this past year is on par with my own sons and some of his struggles in baseball. When you sent the message about Mike's podcast coming I was looking forward to it...literally the first 3-4 minutes are heart wrenching...honestly thank you for doing this. So many dad's, including myself that need to hear this. I cant wait to finish up the rest but wanted to get my thoughts out on the first few minutes. Thank you, honestly...this means so much and it's such a great message.
Dudes. Another great show if not the best. Sween is fenomenal to listen to. His wisdom is off the charts👍🏼 You guys have the best baseball show going, hands down. There is so much to learn from watching and listening to the info you all share with us👍🏼 You are making listeners better people with your show ‼️‼️‼️
Sweeney inspires me to be better, doggone it EDIT: on top of being excellent players, these are 4 world-class teammates giving out tricks of the trade. Really cool conversation.
I went to the game where the inducted him into the royals Hall of Fame it was also Mike Sweeney bobblehead night... I just happened to be one of the lucky people that chose the gate he was handing out bobbleheads at!
Love Coach Sweeney, would play against saints all the time growing up. One of my most proud moments on the field was when I made a nice play on third on a ball off of his sons bat and said it was one of the nicest plays he’s seen made in a tourney , made me feel stoked
37:54 Agree with Sweeney. Greinke would be awesome to have on the podcast! Truly a unique player and a master at his craft. Went through a lot and came out a future HOFer. Might take some convincing to get him on, but he’d be a great guest.
Oh man, digging deep indeed. Great show, great game, and what a guest with some inspirational thoughts. Nice to see this side of Mike...he had some broad shoulders in some lean years.
The COVID drag on youth sports is a real thing. In 2038, we might see a deficit of US born talent in all sports. Will there be players that will get drafted in all sports? Yes, of course. But I think we will see a slight loss of talent level or athleticism. Kids that would have played sports either were late to the party or decided to play Call of Duty instead.
The world needs more Mike Sweeneys in it
