Some people are just dicks man. A coworker brought her son of like 9 or 10 to work one day, I offered him a box of biscuits in the staff room and he said something like "don't let my mum near it, she'll empty the whole box", with her standing right there might I add. I really had to bite my tongue, I would never have talked about my mother like that at that age, in front of her or not.

If you watch that scene again...the mother burts into laughter. .. To me she wasnt aware she was in the shot!! One second before shes like "jason shut up" and when the kids scream "heman heman" she burts and laughs and applauds . makes no sense

@Gwasgray as a 5yr old I scratched my head at why they wanted He-Man when we all knew by then he was lame and would’ve made more sense to want the Ninja Turtles, but now as an adult I understand that they didn’t want to give free product placement to their biggest rival and after Masters of the Universe bombed in ‘87 and nobody my age wanted He-Man toys it was a safe financial decision 😜
Also as an adult I don’t understand how they got sued yet the mayor got re-elected?

I actually liked Extreme Ghostbusters. Was hard to get into at first but it grew on me. I didn't find the characters too tropey but it's been many years since I watched the show. Could have a different opinion if I saw it now. At the time it was fine. Not as good as The Real Ghostbusters cartoon of course. It's totally worth a watch though. Would love Doug to check it out

I liked that game (and it was the third movie) but I wish they would've ended the game a little differently. I think it would have been funnier if at the end of the game with Alyssa Milano's character (Dr. Ilyssa Selwyn) ended up with the nameless character the player played as. Peter flirts with Dr. Selwyn the entire game, the Ghostbusters save the world, rescue her, they tell the "rookie" character good work in the "we couldn't have done it without you kid" type of way, Peter asks Ilyssa out again, she turns him down because she has fallen for the "rookie", she and the "rookie" kiss. Then Peter tells him "You're fired," and the "rookie" (who hasn't said a single word the entire game) breaks the kiss with Ilyssa and says "Wait, what?" The End. Roll credits.

    • @WiGgYof09
      @WiGgYof09 6 лет назад +6

The game had a good structure that could be used for a movie. They pretty much got a lot of the fan service references out of the way pretty quick, like Slimer and Stay Puft. It really made a much better sequel to GBI than GBII. It expanded on Gozer's back story and showed a natural progression of their business and equipment.
As a kid I loves GB2 more than GB1. Now I cant really watch GB2, but adore GB1.

One of the positive aspects of Ghostbusters II is the fact that it birthed the Bobby Brown song "On Our Own." That song still holds up to this day and was released at a time when Bobby Brown had just released his second album "Don't Be Cruel" the previous year in 1988. The song was super big when it came out and the video(which featured several celebrity cameos) was all over MTV and BET back in the day.

Extreme Ghostbusters is good, and the characters for the most part do have personalities.
Kylie is the goth girl who's really into lore.
Roland is the tech and car enthusiast.
    Eduardo is lazy and sarcastic.
    Garrett was an adrenaline junkie.
It's also quite a bit darker than the real ghostbusters.

I know reviewing video games aren't really your thing, but how about reviewing the 2009 Ghostbusters video game? It has the original cast reprising their roles and the story ties the two movies together into a coherent narrative and the game brings it all back full circle...
Also, the Vigo painting is being kept in the Ghostbusters HQ lobby... if you activate it, it talks, and one of the things it says is a reference to Venkman in the second movie talking about painting a kitten, saying that Vigo wants a kitten... and in the game, the painting basically laments his lack of a kitten...

Was it Ghostbusters 2 that killed the franchise, or was it actually the cartoon? You guys rightfully had high praise for the cartoon, but seem to forget that the cartoon dipped in quality after the first couple of seasons with some of the re-designs, changes in voice talent, and increased focus on Slimer that went so far they changed the name of the show to Slimer and The Real Ghostbusters. The first couple seasons of the cartoon are indeed brilliant, and really captured the tone, and essence of the characters from the first film. They definitely dumbed it down after the first two seasons, though, and I think that's where Ghostbusters 2 took it cues from unfortunately.

I saw the original Ghostbusters in the theater when I was nine. I thought I was going to see a film with funny people I liked doing funny things. Which I was. But also...right from the beginning I got thrown for a loop with the librarian ghost. I wasn't prepared for how scary it was going to be. Then as the movie went on, the frying eggs scene, the Zuul possession scene, the Vince possession scene, by the time it got to the containment unit explosion I was shaking in fear.
I was still willing to stick it out though but I was seeing the movie with a friend and when she said she wanted to leave I didn't argue with her. So we walked out at the "Looks like we're going to put in some over time" scene.
A year later when the movie came back around to theaters (they did that then) both me and my friend went to see it again and this time made it all the way through.
Then in 1989 I saw Ghostbusters II. I was 14 and found nothing scary about it. But I thought it was legitimately a good movie. Not a great movie. The first movie was a 5 star GREAT movie. The sequel was a 3 or maybe 3 and 1/2 star good movie. I still feel that way. I even went back and saw it for a second time a month later before it left theaters. Yeah I loved Ghostbusters and I found the story in the sequel to be a bit wanting but even with the cast firing on only half cylinders and it being a retread of the first the movie it was enough to make it an entertaining and good enough movie.

As GB 2 wasn't as good, It holds a great time to be kid in the 80s. And From those 4 films I became an actor, haunted houses for 20 years in Cincinnati because I saw them & others Who framed Roger Rabbit, Indiana Jones Radiers of the Lost Ark I think came out then. Then all the cartoons.

Loved GB growing up, couldn't wait for GB2 and it isn't as good as the original but I still loved having the original cast back!
The trouble with the reboot is it was a movie that tried to remind you of the old movies in every scene but without being in that world!

Extreme Ghostbusters was actually not as bad as the initial episodes made it look. ...Although, the animation took a few steps back...
What I'd say is that if you're looking for some of the most inventive and frankly serious ghosts that ever hit the franchise, go for it! For me, that was the selling point of the show. The ghosts. The four main characters were so-so, yes they develop, but they didn't need to each be a token.
Story-wise, they were pretty good there too, EXCEPT for the biggest problem I had with it which was these stories wrapped up with all the damage done being undone. It was roughly the equivalency of Superman's eye beams fixing the Great Wall of China.
So, yeah, I'd say give it a watch, it's a very different perspective on Ghostbusters but those endings can spoil it.

Darkness at Noon, Part 1 and 2
The True Face of a Monster
    Deadliners
    The Unseen
    Sonic Youth
    Grundelesque
    Till Death Do We Start

Not a popular opinion (at least with people online), but I've always preferred Ghostbusters 2 over the original. Perhaps it was because I was younger when 2 came out and it was a bit more like the cartoon, and details like the stuff in the sewer with slime and the ghost train were better and scarier in GB2 than the haunted library and the librarian in the original.

Yes, The Real Ghostbusters IS an amazing cartoon. Astonishingly sophisticated writing. I was going to say "for a children's cartoon" but you know what? It was sophisticated writing PERIOD. Some genuinely creative ghosts and backstories, both entirely fictional and based on real events. It was pretty amazing, let's be honest.

I grew up with Ghostbusters 2, I never saw the first one until Extreme Ghostbusters came out.
Ghostbusters 2 and the later seasons of The Real Ghostbusters had it in my mind that Ghostbusters was goofy, and I loved all the goofy stuff with Slimer. I didn't like the early Ghostbuster cartoon's episode because they weren't as goofy and a bit too scary for me.
Once Extreme rolled around I was more curious for that dark creative story telling, and I finally saw the first one, and it all clicked for me.

  • @Launchpad05
    @Launchpad05 6 лет назад +2

This is exactly why 'Ghostbusters 2' isn't as good as the original. Because 'The Real Ghostbusters' took the basic premise, ran with it, and tried many different things with what was already established. Granted, it was a 'kids cartoon', but it did have some creepy moments, and having J. Michael Strazinsky as one of the main writers didn't hurt. That being said, the series did get worse as it progressed, but the fact that the cartoon took the franchise forward more so than the movie explains why it would always get picked over the sequel. Also, the fact that the first movie was popular with kids was also the sequel's undoing despite the cartoon's presence.

The funny thing is, Ghostbusters did the whole "We need more diversity" thing with much better results in the 90s with Extreme Ghostbusters, you had a guy in wheelchair and a female ghostbuster (who was punk) and instead of focusing on that, they just amped up the scary shit and made it Ghostbusters for older kids. It was really good.
Edit: So I just reached the part in the video where they talk about it, yeah, I guess all I can say is, give it a chance because it's probably not as bad as you think it might be.

Ray is the adorkable goofy one that you can't help but want to hug, Peter is the sassy/sarcastic one, Egon is the genius, and Winston is the cool guy, Winston is super chill and laid back while also being a good straight-man while Ray is a big hug giant kid in an adult body with an extremely high IQ.

  • @alphatatsumaki

I saw Ghostbusters in that order, too. Cartoon in 86, then the movie. Played the cassette tape Side A to Side B, over and over. Then the sequel came out and I got the game on my Commodore Amiga. I gotta say, I always preferred Harold Ramis' deadpan deliveries. It's just so matter of fact, but it's so funny.
When you mentioned Winston saying "Always the quiet ones", that whole moment felt like a basketball set up shot, with Ray deflecting Venkman's off-hand comment about sleeping with the slime onto Egon and then he says NOTHING, but his face was priceless and then Winston comes in, as you said and then Venkman finishes it with "You hound", which for me felt like those stand up comedy moments where you deliver the punch line and people are laughing and you tell a slightly less funny follow up punchline to get a second laugh that cuts through the first laugh.

4:42 as a 5 year old when this came out, that tub scene was terrifying. I think something about the build up with the baby being in the safe comfort of his mother, and of course the obvious vulnerability of getting ready for a bath/shower.
As an adult, I just wish they revisited the scene. It seems like most people check out when they see the tub fold, but I think that's what makes it feel paranormal or other-worldly. Like, how creepy would it have been to see a normal shot of the bathroom afterward with them investigating, with the porcelain all bent up in some unnatural, impossible way?

Oh and I forgot to say Extreme Ghostbusters is not a bad cartoon at all in might’ve felt that way during the 90s when you first saw it but if you look back at it now on Hulu which they have the entire series the show is a lot of fun and probably much more scarier than the original series with the Og ghostbusters with bigger threats and more grotesque designs and the characters Kylie Griffin, Roland Jackson, Garrett Miller and Eduardo Rivera are all very interesting and unique characters in my opinion and they all work off each other really well in reality if Sony wanted to do another ghostbusters it should have been like this passing the torch to a younger generation similar to force awakens hell if they wanted to have female ghostbusters in a sequel they should of went with Kylie in my opinion even Janine Melnitz since they both work with each other in the comics or even those two and Dana Beret she would of been an awesome twist for the film series as a character who’s been through a ton and maybe became fed up with being a damsel in distress when dealing with the paranormal but any ways like you guys should check extreme ghostbusters it’s worth a rewatch
