I literally watched this film on Netflix before right you posted the review lol perfect timing right? But I agree, I was actually surprised by this film in some parts.. like, I was kinda disappointed that you guys never talked about the scene where Robin see's his dead parents from the rooftop. _It was actually handled really well!_ Robin doesn't say anything there's no lame _"Noooooooo!!!!"_ scream it's just him acting with his face & looking devastated _while_ Bruce stares up at him. One deleted scene i wished they kept in was the guards in arkham discovering two-face has escaped. That scene was actually kinda chilling... Well... for batman forever standards
The behind the scenes stuff surrounding this movie is pretty interesting. In fact, the tie in novel for this film shows promise of an actually good storyline with a much more coherent story, additional scenes that help flesh out the characters (the first chapter alone tackles a young Bruce Wayne struggling with the guilt of his parents death, a young Eddward beginning his obsession with Bruce Wayne and then finally, to cap off the prologue, Batman meetingg with Harvey Dent and giving his word he keep him out of harms way), and even completely different and alternate scenes (for example, Batman isn't the one who takes down Two-Face... And his death is absolute poetic Justic, not just for Harvey but Robin as well, all with final coin toss.)

Batman and Robin wasn't a "blank check", it was the opposite. It was rumored to be so terrible for Schumacher that he eventually gave up and told the actors to "act like you're in a cartoon".
I saw an episode of hollywood greatest directors on TMC and they interviews Joel Schumacher on his career and it’s fascinting, it seemed like what happened was he was a kid that was obsessed with movies and got a job as a costume and set designer where he was given what was considered the cheap films because he was writing directing, costuming and pfosudgion designing everything but then the studio gave him bigger budgets where he just did whatever he wanted
I read his interview on the Batman Forever behind-the-scenes book and he talked about it. And I also read his interview in a 1995 magazine on how he met with Tim Burton on the set of The Lost Boys, because Burton was preparing Beetlejuice, and he asked Joel Schumacher if he can borrow the same production team that worked on The Lost Boys to work on Beetlejuice. And Schumacher said yes. And that's why they became friends.
I feel like if the Mr. Freeze from Batman and Robin was in a modern movie, this would be a major punchline: "Do you want to build an iceman?" *blasts poor smuch with freeze ray*
Kevin Smith and Marc Bernardin's commentary tracks for the first four Batman films are HILARIOUS, especially Batman Returns. I recommend them all...just listening to them is a riot.
I know it’s an older video but just wanted to say, I’ve watched your videos since 2014 and have truly enjoyed them, hope when COVID is over we can meet at a convention, keep up the great work!
Wow imagine if Batman Returns didn't get the backlash it got when it was released. 🤔🤔🤔🤔 Schumacher would've never been hired, Burton wouldn't have been fired, the Nolan trilogy would've never happened, maybe we could gotten a decent Catwoman movie. Crazy to think about 😱😱😱
Batman Forever is kind of a mixed bag for me. I like how Bruce decides to be Batman not because he feels guilt based around being unable to save his parents as an eight-year-old, but because he wants to help Gotham be a better place. Taking away that tortured aspect of his character does kind of remove part of what makes him Batman, but it is neat that Schumacher decided to take him in a different direction from how he's usually portrayed. That said, Bruce's decision is completely at odds with his inability to keep Two-Face off the streets due to just not pursuing him at all, making no attempt to stop any of Riddler's crimes before the finale, briefly giving up being Batman so he could get laid, and the fact that he's killing criminals left and right until he just randomly decides to stop after Two-Face (unless you count him more or less convincing Freeze to kill Ivy in the sequel). The less said about the villains, Robin, and Chase the better.
KE-KE Network no he isn't. That a click bait title. The real story is this. Flashpoint is the last movie that will have Batman for a few years, Matt Reeves are prequel movies. So It comes down to if he wants to do younger Batman, but look at WB casting list, he is firmly on there. They offered him to direct while not in the kowl he didn't want to as he felt he would be too distracted. He has said many times he LOVES playing Batman but he won't be suiting up after Flashpoint for a while
It's a silly movie, but it was so much fun. I still really like it. :) Campy bats is a fun bat. ^^ Edit: oh my god, I thought I was the only one who didn't see Keaton as a playboy. He's a great Batman, but doesn't have the "I'm sexy and all the ladies want me" look and personality that Bruce is known for.
Steve Strange Doug and Rob are actually right when it comes to the whole "Batman Forever is dated but at the same time is also strangely ahead of it's time" topic.
"Oh Riatg evrywan... cheel" Pd:thats the best swarzenger pronuntiation i can wrote, so don't judge me. Lets see if you can do better with another ice pun.
I love this movie. On a ridiculous sort of level. The colorful visuals, the over the top characters, and the ridiculous action, it's just fun. Just don't think too hard about it. But there are plenty of movies like that, and there's nothing wrong with that.
opinions may differ on this, but for me I'd quite like to see a movie based in the world of Batman Beyond. I'm 39 episodes into the series and I'm honestly quite surprised that a Hollywood based studio can release a show that combines cyberpunk with Batman and yet doesn't think to make a live action movie out of it (preferably one with a director who can get it right)
I have long wished that somebody would do this and cast Kevin Conroy as old Bruce. Hearing The Definitive Batman Voice in a live action Batman film would just be delightful.
it would be but that's not their only good option; honestly one of the best things they can do is hire someone different who can either impersonate Kevins portrayal of Bruce Wayne perfectly, or get someone who can add their own flavour to the character without ruining it, kinda like J.K Simmons did with J.Jonah Jameson in the Spider-man movies
Well if you're going to hire someone else, I would definitely aim for a different persona/portrayal. Why impersonate Conroy perfectly when you could just hire Conroy?
Batman Forever, while it has a ton of problems, will forever hold a special place in my heart. It was the very first Batman film I saw in the theater, and it's what got my obsession with Batman started. Yes, the film is very flawed, but the stuff that works, REALLY works. Such as Robin's arc and the art direction ( though I will agree it doesn't fit in a Batman film). Overall, I really enjoyed BF, as I will Batman and Batman Returns. A solid trilogy of films in my eyes. Batman and Robin, on the other hand......
I first saw Tim Burton's Batman when I was 4 and I loved every minute of it. Looking back I remember thinking the Joker killings were either cool action (Think about the future!) or funny (the 10000 volt handbuzzer) so I guess I was a messed up kid. But this was my first exposure to Batman and became my standard for what was a great superhero and a good superhero film. So I loved the animated series, cried during Batman Returns, didn't care for the Schumacher films even as a kid when others did, and liked the Dark Knight trilogy.
I don’t know if you guys have one already but you should do a podcast like this. Just turn this into a podcast haha. It’s really fun to just listen to you talk in depth about the movies like this outside the NC videos.
Nice vid, guys. Just one minor quibble, though...from interviews with Joel Schumacher (on the "special edition" DVD released in 2005), apparently he had barely any creative control over Batman & Robin. The studio liked how much Batman Forever raked in, so they demanded "MORE OF THAT, PLEASE" from Schumacher. He actually wanted to make a darker Batman film as the next installment, but the studio insisted on more kid-friendly schlock as well as making the film more "toyetic." Schumacher recalls (from what I remember) that many costumes and props (vehicles included) ended up unfinished or shoddily thrown together because the studio would immediately rip the blueprints from under his nose to send to the toy company before his crew had a chance to finish construction. So, yeah, there was a lot of odd design choices by Schumacher, but a lot of it was encouraged by the people in charge at WB who had no idea how to create a creatively satisfying film, only toy commercials. And even then, they couldn't even manage that. I don't know what a darker Schumacher Batman movie would have been, but if we ended up with something like The Lost Boys, maybe we could have had something at least decent that wouldn't have killed the superhero genre for a brief time.
This movie, funny enough, was actually the very first ever live action Batman movie I saw growing up in the 90s. I did see it in the theaters when it came out. I was already watching the animated series, and I did see Mask of the Phantasm as well, but I hadn't watched either of the Burton movies before this one. Only after seeing this, did I then watch the Burton movies and then realized they were both better than this one. Batman Forever does hold a special place in my childhood, but now that I'm older, it's still pretty bad. I'm not gonna deny that. Not Batman and Robin bad, but still bad compared to those before it and those after it. I'm so glad you guys reviewed it, I've been wanting to see what you guys thought about it for a long time. Thank you! :)
He was not that bad. I guess at the time Jonathon Taylor Thomas would have been better or maybe Brad Renfro. Too bad River Phoenix died. He might have been great in the role at the time.
With JGL in Dark Knight Rises, Nolan was trying to put a mix of all three robins in that character. He was a hot head like Jason Todd. He knew who Batman was as a kid like Tim Drake. The character had a little Grayson too.
He was just so underutilized that it was very disappointing. Same with Hathaway, so much potential and it was like the two characters were forgotten about in the movie and instead the movie decided to focus on characters I didn't care about or find even remotely interesting.
When I was little I thought this movie was so great because I was such a big Jim Carry fan but now....let’s just say that I’m gonna stick to Ace Ventura
Eddie Gall Just watch the animated Adam West Batman films. Return of the Cape Crusader and Batman vs Two-Face are awesome movies. It is so cool Adam West, Burt Ward, Julie Newmar and Will Shatner as Two Face. It takes me back to my childhood watching the original Show.
This might actually be my favorite of your Real Thoughts/Sibling Rivalry videos. I was 3 when this movie came out but wasn't allowed to see it til I was around 7 or 8 ish and I loved it. Now that I'm 28, there's things in the film I still think are good and entertaining. As a whole, it's not "good" but it's not "bad" either. Me and my sister and cousins watched this movie a lot as kids. I agree with a lot of what you and Rob both say about this film though. The making of the all four films is actually kinda fascinating when you think about it. But the number one think that I agree with is what you guys said what Kevin Smith said about having a younger Robin. Chris O'Donnell was fine in Forever, don't get me wrong. But imagine if they did get the kid from Terminator 2. But like Rob said, Kevin Smith is dreaming. There's no way WB would've done it. They would've been too scared to piss off whiny parents. Especially after Batman Returns, which I seen at age 7 and was fine. Though it scared my little sister lol. Anyways, I went on longer than I should've but I still love the movie. Mostly as a guilty pleasure.
Batman Forever is sort of like the Adam West show with modern special effects. It has the same sort of campy humor mixed in with action. Batman and Robin was the same.
What I do find funny is that when dc did the animated Adam west batman movies, they had William Shatner as two face which makes perfect sense for that version and he was less over the top than tommy lee Jones because they do a good job with it and he isn’t looney.
WJZAV It would be interesting to see another "Last Action Hero" style fiasco. Plus Alfred in "Rises" had misgivings about Bruce carrying on being Batman, partly because of the emotional toll of the previous two films catching up on him and partly because Bruce was past his prime (the Walker brothers present bad arguments from time to time and blindly stick to them, but Rob makes a bitching Michael Caine impression).
darkevilazn He was horribly underutilized. So disappointing. Him and Hathaway, it was like they were completely forgotten and shoved aside for characters I didn't care about or find interesting at all. I freaking hate that movie, so much wasted potential.
I work in a place where light signals are used to ask for product ( A newspaper ad production company) Today a lady used her light- and when I went to ask what she needed- she asked for my phone charger. "The Bat Signal isn't a pager" were the words that came out of my mouth. I know....sad lol.
I grew up with Batman Forever and loved it. I was 5 when it came out, so it is dear to me (it was a major part of my earliest birthday party that I can remeber). I always still preferred the Burton films (which I had recorded off the TV at the same time so I was not ignorant of them), but Forever was really just a different flavor and not a bad flavor. I was also big into the Animated Series and the 1969 series at the same time, so really I appreciated the franchise as an all-encompassing universe and not as one "true" version with inferior imitations (that's a game for adult fans and not for children). That said, even though I wasn't really old enough for Batman & Robin to viscerally offend me when it came out, I knew that it wasn't that good. Looking back on Forever now, I still like it (especially the Bat-vehicles) and that probably will never change.
It made the same mistake a lot of bad 90's movies made, it was trying to make wacky 90's cartoon humor work with live action. It just doesn't work. They have to decide if its going to be a wacky cartoon with wacky humor or an action movie, it can't be both. If this movie with the same plot was an animated movie, it would probably have been a good movie.

Please review Valerian and the city of a thousand planets.
I don't care what anyone says I LOVE CAMPY BATMAN!
I like this campy Batman and Adam West's campy Batman. B&R's Batman was just weird.
I just bought the complete 66 series
I feel Warnerbros is more to blame than Joel. They done dumb stuff after this.
The one that didn't involve the "trigger word" card .😁👌
sshhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
Nathaniel Foga WHERE'S THE TRIGGER?!! Where is it?!!
Bat Credit Card???
Nathaniel Foga or Rob walker sees batman on the cover of time magazine
Andrew Matthews linkara :batman is rich
I know it’s an older video but just wanted to say, I’ve watched your videos since 2014 and have truly enjoyed them, hope when COVID is over we can meet at a convention, keep up the great work!
The deleted scenes are really good. I wish they spliced them into an extended cut.
Tommy Lee Jones and Jim Carry were freaking hilarious in this movie. If I need a laugh I'll watch Batman Forever.
I like them both as much as I like Jack Nicholson.
Nice Rick and Morty shirt there, Doug. I didn't know you watched that show.
Crazy to think about 😱😱😱
bigevilworldwide1 edgy opinion is edgy
I've always wondered how a third Burton Batman film would have gone.
Xehanort10
Robin Williams Riddler
"Nice *burp* shirt"
Why does Doug look like he's wearing eyeliner? Is this another Melvin situation...?
Maybe he just dresst as devilboner or something.
Most likely because Tamara has posted pictures of her as Hyper Fan Girl and Doug as Devil Boner.
ahh yes that makes sense
I like this movie. it just sucks that it was a sequel to the first two.
The ´´Real Thoughts´´ series in a nutshell: Talking over each other
Batman Forever is kind of a mixed bag for me.
Falling Down was an awesome film.
Kirk Hurley that's an understatement
The customer is always right.
Val Kilmer is stated to be the closest to Bruce, but Affleck might beat him if we ever see him without the kill rage and not man crushing on Superman
kevin texter Affleck would be close if his Batman didn't act like Thomas Wayne rather than Bruce
yeah, unfortunately hes stepping down from the role all together
kevin texter We need more of his billionare playboy persona
KE-KE Network no he isn't. That a click bait title. The real story is this. Flashpoint is the last movie that will have Batman for a few years, Matt Reeves are prequel movies. So It comes down to if he wants to do younger Batman, but look at WB casting list, he is firmly on there. They offered him to direct while not in the kowl he didn't want to as he felt he would be too distracted. He has said many times he LOVES playing Batman but he won't be suiting up after Flashpoint for a while
hmm, well thanks for clearing that up.
That moment when Rob knows Doki Doki and respects the Just Monika meme
Arnold was the only thing i remembered from Batman and Robin until i recently watched a review of it.
I loved the Paddington movie, surprisingly enough.
It's a silly movie, but it was so much fun. I still really like it. :) Campy bats is a fun bat. ^^
Edit: oh my god, I thought I was the only one who didn't see Keaton as a playboy. He's a great Batman, but doesn't have the "I'm sexy and all the ladies want me" look and personality that Bruce is known for.
I remember this movie as a kid and thought it was cool. But it was a drop down in quality and it was half campy and half serious
Hmmm well I guess you can say Val Kilmer was flirty with that line "I've got to get you out of those clothes and into a black dress"
If "Batman Forever" was released today i think people would LOVE it.
Steve Strange Doug and Rob are actually right when it comes to the whole "Batman Forever is dated but at the same time is also strangely ahead of it's time" topic.
Dennis Reynolds The Golden God
The theme would be relevant, but the campiness is horribly dated.
"Oh Riatg evrywan... cheel"
Pd:thats the best swarzenger pronuntiation i can wrote, so don't judge me. Lets see if you can do better with another ice pun.
"You are not sending me to the coolah."
I love this movie. On a ridiculous sort of level. The colorful visuals, the over the top characters, and the ridiculous action, it's just fun. Just don't think too hard about it. But there are plenty of movies like that, and there's nothing wrong with that.
Doug's eye makeup is on FLEEK
This was the first batman movie i saw as a kid. I only rewatch this film in memory of my grandfather. He and i would watch it together.
I agree its the worst movie I've seen 40 times
The best comment I've read to describe this film.
Mind need to adjust that picture on the wall behind you guys.
I'm curious to know you guy's thoughts on Alfred on Gotham, I personally like the portrayal.
The Reviewer He is the best portrayal of Alfred imo. He is much more of a "father figure" to Bruce than all of the other incarnations.
opinions may differ on this, but for me I'd quite like to see a movie based in the world of Batman Beyond.
Me too sister!
The problem with Robin is no kid says, " I want to fight crime...next to Batman." We say we want to BE Batman.
scott wolozanski exactly.... no kid at the park in the 90s wanted to be Scottie Pippen everyone wanted to be Jordan same as B&R
In the comics Dick actually was Batman for a while when everyone thought Bruce was dead.
I can't watch these anymore. Doug never gets to talk he's always interrupted. WE WANT TO HEAR HIM
I first saw Tim Burton's Batman when I was 4 and I loved every minute of it.
You never like the three sequels to 1989's Batman? I'm really hurt.
I really want them to do a Nostalgia Critic review of TDKR
Personally I think this is a bad movie but it’s on the same level as The Room where its flaws make it extremely entertaining to watch
OH NO!!!!!
I t ' S b O i L i N g A c I d ! ! ! !
Batman yeah!
👀 Real Acid?!?
For me:
The Dark Knight
Batman 1989
Batman Returns
Batman Begins
Batman Forever
The Dark Knight Rises
Batman v Superman
Batman and Robin
Batman 1966
Thank you! :)
Nice rick and Morty shirt
another vídeo?
i hope you make batman returns
I think they should have gone with Jonathon Taylor Thomas or Edward Furlong for Robin because at the time he was at the right age to be Grayson.
“Racheals kentucky fried chicken” 😂😂
For some reason, the funniest thing in this video is Doug calling Nora Fries' condition a "freeze disease"
OH MY GOSH THEY KNOW ABOUT DOKI DOKI LITERATURE CLUB!!!
When I was little I thought this movie was so great because I was such a big Jim Carry fan but now....let’s just say that I’m gonna stick to Ace Ventura
Angelina Thompson ALLLLLLLLLLL-RIGHTY THEN!
My favorite part about this series is just watching the brothers interact with each other
Why does Doug look like hes wearing eyeliner?
To call B&R similar to Adam West Show, I’m offended
I would love to see a Nostalgia Critic Worst to Best live-action Batman films.
Wait, so Electro in the terrible Amazing Spider-Man 2 is basically Carrey's Edward Nygma?
Batman Forever is sort of like the Adam West show with modern special effects. It has the same sort of campy humor mixed in with action. Batman and Robin was the same.
What I do find funny is that when dc did the animated Adam west batman movies, they had William Shatner as two face which makes perfect sense for that version and he was less over the top than tommy lee Jones because they do a good job with it and he isn’t looney.
Will there be a The Dark Knight Rises NC-review?
WJZAV that movie is worse than Batman and Robin
probably not
Bruce Wayne quits Batman.
Alfred quits Bruce Wayne.
Christopher Nolan quit his care for his own trilogy.
Best part of Dark Knight Rises was honestly JGL as robin. Everything else was meh.
darkevilazn He was horribly underutilized. So disappointing. Him and Hathaway, it was like they were completely forgotten and shoved aside for characters I didn't care about or find interesting at all. I freaking hate that movie, so much wasted potential.
Tommy Lee Jones was probably complaining about Carrey's buffoonery behind the scenes.
I completely forget about the Chase Meridian character until I watched the Nostalgia Critic review, honestly.
Batman Forever, Batman and Robin or Batman V. Superman? Which would you rather watch?
Batman Forever
Indiana Solo And the Fellowship of the Ewoks Batman vs Superman
i'm gonna be honest, BvS
I actually really like 2 of these movies, to each their own, I guess...
Indiana Solo And the Fellowship of the Ewoks BATMAN FOREVER HANDS DOWN!!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
So is the shirt a clue you're finally going to make Rick and Morty vlogs?
I work in a place where light signals are used to ask for product ( A newspaper ad production company)
Today a lady used her light- and when I went to ask what she needed- she asked for my phone charger.
"The Bat Signal isn't a pager" were the words that came out of my mouth. I know....sad lol.
Why did they recast Val Kilmer anyway? George Clooney was so bad as Batman.
I think Val Kilmer was working on another movie or something when Batman and Robin was filming.
I heard he also fought with Schumacher but idk if that’s true. I think George Clooney’s main problem was bc of the script
Schumacher actually went on to say something along the lines “Val Kilmer...that man has a mental illness.”
I think he wasn't available he was filming "The Saint"
The Two-Face from TDK was great. Too bad he only existed for like...12 minutes.
Can you guys talk about Gotham the series some time? I ADORE it because its so villain point of view based, and really wonder what you guys think :D
Colourbee Plus it has a way better and more serious Riddler than Carrey's pathetic and annoying joke of a character.
