Hilariously, they tried to bring this in line with the cartoon that had started in '86 to make it more "kid-friendly" 🤣🤣(Ernie Hudson shaved because Winston didn't have a beard in the cartoon, Annie Potts looks more like cartoon Janine, Slimer is a good guy, and looks even more cartoonish); BUT...the living bathtub, the severed heads in the train tunnel, the living Mink coat (which was an effective anti-fur message for some, I'm sure) and Vigo's smirk that snaps back to a scowl when she looks, all scared the shit out of me when I was young, and are still creepier than many horror films, as you don't expect it from a PG film...
I always watch both movies back to back, I almost don't even think of them as separate movies (I feel the same about The Addams Family and Addams Family Values)
There was a cartoon called The Real Ghostbusters from 1986 to 1992. But Ghostbusters Afterlife should be next. There is an end-credit scene that hints to a sequel. Ghostbusters Frozen Empire. Scheduled to be theaters in March.
The feel IS very different. In between the films, the animated series, The Real Ghostbusters, had come on air and was a tremendous hit. For the sequel, they were more aware of their kid audience and toned down the film in response (despite the fact the original film is what brought the kids TO the cartoon in the first place). Similarly, the cartoon itself was undergoing that change in tone thanks to parent group complaints over its scariness and the ABC network wanting to "improve" all their shows via a focus group (despite the fact the show was already their #1 show--kinda HARD to improve on that!).
Me too. I was also 5. That was such a great summer for movies. Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade, Lethal Weapon 2, License To Kill, Honey I Shrunk the Kids, The Burbs, and Batman. Good times.
Ghostbusters 2 has always been my favorite of the series. Trivia: The kid at the birthday party who says "you guys are full of crap!" is Jason Reitman, the son of Ivan Reitman, who directed the first two Ghostbusters movie and Jason (the kid) is the director of Ghostbusters: Afterlife.
Yanozz is played by Peter MacNicol who was in also in the first Mr Bean movie with Rowan Atkinson and provided the voice of the Mad Hatter in the Batman Arkham videogames!
Ladies, you'll love it, hate it, and wish it was in Ghostbusters 2. Rick Moranis had more scenes in GB2 that were cut for time. One scene everyone loves is Louis Tully (Rick Moranis) Is trying to use the Proton Pack to bust Slimer. This deleted scene can be found on youtube, with many other deleted scenes. There's even an extended fan edit version of GB2, and it adds more to the story.
After this are an animated series called The Extreme Ghostbusters, a videogame continuation, a reboot, and two sequels. Besides the first film, this was preceded by an animated series called The Real Ghostbusters
I have to say that I enjoyed both of these a lot but the first one sets the tone of course ya know getting to know all the characters and how they work well together. Where in the sequel you know the characters already but once they threw in the baby and then find out that's who the big bad wants and to be reincarnated or whatever lol. Because Viggo was definitely an evil mofo. But them using the positively charged slime to bring the Statute of Liberty to life was cool and unexpected but what better way to bring out the positive energy then one of America's biggest symbol. I for one can say I enjoyed them all. Awesome reaction ladies 👍🏾❤️👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
I'd say I and most people I ever heard from felt similarly: the first is classic, so much so that I think 2 suffered from not meeting people's expectations, so they felt underwhelmed. (The painting mysteriously just having a picture of the 4 of them at the end was a bit hokey too.) Hence another sequel only got as far as being talked about and some treatments written (heard Conan O'Brien wrote one or a script), but didn't get greenlit until the 2016 one. Venkman's an interesting character because he's a sleaze who's, in many aspects, incredibly unacceptable (especially today), yet generally the most popular with fans, esp. kids at that age. I would say it's because the movie showed kids while ghosts may be scary, they can be defeated by some guy who's just a smartass and con man even, without having to be a genius (Egon) or enthusiast expert (Ray), and by just plain NYC attitude. In an age when kids were being traumatized by shit like the Exorcist, Alien, the Shining, and innumerable horror and slasher films and franchises, here was a movie that reduced the defeating of ghosts down to running a new small business in NYC. It gave an entire generation of kids a lot of emotional comfort and reassurance.
If you guys are so cavalier about the pink cotton candy type slime then I suggest you check out The remake of The Blob. You won’t look at slime the same way again.
2 gets a bad wrap but I actually love it( and in recent years it's gotten a bit of a reputation as a cult classic specially with some of the other stuff that's come out prior to afterlife that is)
It gets a bad wrap due to being the early day`s of SFX(cgi)... Would be interesting if the effects were redone to todays standards as a special edition.... Afterlife and the new one really woke up the GB movies... hope there`s a tv show at some point with 10-12 episodes per season,,.
@@kylereese4822 despite Sony dragging its heels for the last 25 years or so Ghostbusters has never really had a bit of a lull. Hi Kristen & Vivian!😊 The first film is very hard to beat. Good point about our bad guy in this film being a bit boring in the painting. You should both continue to watch "Ghostbusters: Afterlife" (2021). The next sequel in the series. Great reactions to your second Ghostbusters film, Kristen & Vivian!!!🎬👏👏👏👏
I was like oh look Kristen is gonna sing the part I can’t remember and then she fumbled on the words. It’s funny I don’t remember anyone singing that song… except for bugs bunny in some old cartoon. That part where she trailed off was the part of the song I couldn’t understand him. I should know that song, I just don’t.
Gozer is a god-like entity so the threat and fear is stronger. Vigo is a sorcerer and the threat isn't as high so that suffers. I like Vigo though and dig the painting that his spirit remained in for centuries and used negative energy to grow strong within the city and timeframe. I feel like I'm in the minority but I absolutely love Ghostbusters 2. I was too young to see the first film in the cinema, I caught it on video and instantly fell in love with the franchise. By the time Ghostbusters 2 came out I'd been watching The Real Ghostbusters and was a huge fan. The 2nd film captured everything, all the charm, effects and good vibes of the first and gave me the chance to see some Ghostbusters in action on the big screen. It was and still is brilliant.
Can I just mention an Amanda Peete resemblance…
Believe me with that shirt you give me what I want. Kristen
I don't get why everyone shits on this movie. It's a very worthy sequel to me.
