The plaque is still there around the stent so if you don't change your lifestyle and take prescribed medications after stenting. It can expand again into the stent called STENT RETHROMBOSIS. very difficult to treat again and the alternative is Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting(CABG).

It sounds like you have some questions about how stent placement works! During the procedure, they typically do not open the chest. Instead, stent placement is usually done through a minimally invasive approach. The most common method involves inserting a catheter into a blood vessel, usually in the groin or wrist. The catheter is guided to the blocked artery in the heart. Once there, a small balloon at the end of the catheter is inflated to open the blockage, and then the stent-a small mesh tube-is placed to keep the artery open. So, there’s no punching of the artery; rather, it’s a carefully controlled process designed to restore blood flow without major surgery.
This might sound like a stupid question but why not remove the plaque? do we not have the technology? I'm 73 to 75% clogged in the right artery, I'm on heart medication and a statin right now.
That’s not a stupid question at all! Currently, angioplasty and stent placement are common procedures used to open narrowed arteries caused by plaque buildup. While it might seem logical to remove the plaque, the process is more complicated. The arteries can be very delicate, and removing plaque could risk damaging the artery wall or causing a blockage elsewhere. Instead, angioplasty uses a balloon to compress the plaque against the artery walls, and a stent is placed to keep the artery open. There are also procedures like atherectomy, which specifically involves cutting away or shaving off plaque using a special device. However, these procedures are typically used in specific cases depending on the location and extent of the blockage. Researchers are always looking for new techniques and technologies to improve treatment, but for now, angioplasty and stenting have proven to be effective for many patients. It’s essential to keep discussing your condition with your doctor, who can provide personalized advice based on your health status and treatment options.
The plaque and injured wall of the artery is extremely thrombogenic (promotes the formation of blood clots) they could travel on the blood and cause serious problems.
The stent itself usually doesn’t cause side effects unless there's an issue with the procedure. Major side effects typically arise from complications during the stent placement or the procedure itself. Under optimal conditions, angioplasty and stent placement alleviate symptoms and reduce the risk of heart attack due to obstructive CAD. If the procedure goes well, patients generally experience only minor discomfort at the catheter entry site, which typically resolves quickly. When symptoms are successfully relieved, these minor side effects are usually well-tolerated. However, catheter-based procedures with stent placement can lead to complications ranging from entry site issues to severe problems like stroke, heart attack, or even death. Fortunately, the risk of these severe complications is low. The most common patient complaints are related to the entry site, including bruising, swelling, bleeding, or minor infection.
The downside is that plaque continues to buildup inside the stent, and at around 2 years, the patient will return for another stent because the first stent will have been clogged up. Eventually, the artery tears and arterial bypass surgery is performed. A better option than a stent is to go with an Atherectomy. Plaque is removed, no stent. Minimally invasive.
I have to do more research on Atherectomy, but just by Googling it sounds like a better alternative. But in the meantime I'd prefer not to have any surgery done to remove plaque, or push plaque back. So I will be taking K2(a vitamin that's said to prevent, and reverse plaque build up).
It’s truly amazing, isn’t it? The fact that doctors can open up blocked arteries and place a tiny stent to restore blood flow is like something out of science fiction. Modern medicine has come so far, and procedures like angioplasty can literally be life-changing.
Yes plaque can be removed by another procedure called atherectomy. In which using a stent doesn't remove plaque at all. It just pushes plaque back. And from what I hear new plaque can form around that stent. But in the meantime you should start including K2 into your diet because it is said to prevent, and reverse plaque build up.
Unless you get a heart doctor like I did he put a stent that was too small and it seems like he tried to keep me in the hospital under a coma as long as he could because that's dented closed I guess he was hoping I would die so I wouldn't sue him yeah just got an award for being what are the most successful heart surgeons in California😮😮😮😮😮😮😮
While current treatments can significantly reduce the risk of complications from atherosclerotic plaques and, in some cases, reduce the size of the plaques or slow their growth, completely removing all atherosclerotic plaques from the body is not yet possible with existing medical technologies. However, significant advancements in medical science continue to improve the management of atherosclerosis and its associated risks. It's also worth noting that early intervention and adopting a healthy lifestyle can prevent or minimize the formation of new plaques.
@@FFPM371 Yes, Drug-eluting stents (DES) are a significant advancement in the treatment of coronary artery disease. Drug-eluting stents have a metal scaffold that is similar to traditional (bare-metal) stents but the outer layer contains medication embedded in a polymer that controls the release of the drug into the artery wall over time. The medication targets the cellular processes that lead to restenosis, which is the re-narrowing of the artery. By inhibiting excessive tissue growth at the stent site, the drug reduces the risk of the artery becoming blocked again.
Yes, this is also used for coarctation, though Treatment depends on age at diagnosis and severity of the condition. There are also different surgical treatments that may be performed.

Healthcare professionals are trained to handle these situations and prioritize your safety and comfort. It might help to discuss your fears with your doctor, who can provide detailed information about the procedure, its benefits, and what to expect before, during, and after. In short, the answer is no. Once a stent is opened in an artery, the tissue cells of the artery wall begin to grow over the stent. The stent becomes a part of the artery wall and cannot move. Any type of movement is considered an extremely rare complication.
Coronary artery stents, the most common type, are considered MRI-safe because they are not typically made of ferromagnetic metal. When stents are elsewhere in the body, especially in a precarious location, such as an artery in the neck, doctors will investigate before they do a scan. The concern is that the stent could migrate, perhaps opening up the blood vessel. Safety information for each type of surgical stent is carefully researched before a scan is performed.
