  • The 2026 regulations have been presented to the F1 world, and it seems like the drivers have mixed feelings when it comes to whether or not they will be an improvement for the sport. Although the FIA has taken a drastic approach and is returning to the ‘2000s’ vibes with the new cars, the weight as well as some other components, like the size of the cars, were still brought into question. With this in mind, how do the F1 drivers feel about the new regulations, and more importantly, can they urge the FIA to change something about them?
In today's video we look at New Details of the 2026 cars released!...Keep watching to see Formula 1 history, F1 car evolution, Engineering of F1 cars, Aerodynamics in Formula 1, F1 car technology, Evolution of Formula 1 vehicles, F1 car design, f1 Motorsport engineering, Formula 1 innovation, F1 car development, Science of F1 racing, F1 car anatomy, Historical F1 cars, f1 Racing technology explained, Formula 1 engineering secrets, 2026 formula 1 Regulations, 2026 formula 1 car

I used to run a sim called Grand Prix Legends and it was set back in about '69 and it was a riot.... Monaco seemed tight in those little cars they ran in the late 60's The original full length Nurburgring (sp?) is in it. I knew about 1/2 of it. It something crazy like 160 corners or some stupid number.

How about making the hybrid cars disappear, which would reduce weight and size by an order of magnitude? Naturally aspirated V-10's or at least V-8's fueled by alternative fuels as Seb has been advocating for would make a huge difference as well in not only sound, but also reliability, which can introduce some drama. I remember the 90's when the grid was full of great drivers and races that could be won by any of the drivers on any given Sunday.

As much as this idea is seducing.... F1 must reduce pollution otherwise, the sport might die because of pseudo "ecological views" by that I mean politicians all other the world who take drastical BAD decisions, that helps no one, and are practically useless
I have the opportunity to work on the shell eco marathon, a race for student where they must build their own "car" and must drive the longer possible with only 1L of fuel, for example one of the car could run 2200km with 1L (not as an engineer, or something that important) but I was able to talk with them (students, engineer from shell, and the ones who provides the fuel, it was really interesting, and they are working hard on hit.

@@alexr5624 The real polluting F1 is contributing isn't the 20 cars on the grid. The plane travel for the teams and equipment as well as ships on the water transporting and storing their gear contribute much, much more, but still less than China, India and other emerging nations. Alternative, combustible fuels make more sense than electric in the short term because an electrical grid that can support electric cars DOESN'T EXIST, NOR WILL IT ANYTIME SOON! 1st world nations can't support that yet, never mind the 3rd world. F1 should be innovating alternative fuels because they are the innovators, and it can be put to use sooner.

I’ve been watching F1 since the 80s. I’ve resigned myself that 2025 will be the last year I’ll follow it. I’ve already given up on F2 due to their abominable whistling cars and 26 looks to be the last straw for me. There is a long history of F1 meddling with the regulations in stupid ways, but they always found their way back. This is different. There is no sign that there is anyone with any power that sees anything wrong with the direction they are heading.
Go back and look at the downfall of nascar in the US. I heard all the same reasons then as I do now for the dump trucks they mandated on track (costs, safety, manufacturers, etc) and what do they have now? Spec cars on boring tracks, generic and forgettable drivers, historic teams gone, racing fans gone (what they have now are fans of the “spectacle” so it doesn’t matter what happens on track) and slowly dying.
F1 is a dead man walking but doesn’t know it yet. I don’t know if they can turn it around even if they come to their senses today.

Like the fact is supporting that would most likely be more beneficial for them at a media standpoint as well because of the funding for it becomes big enough and companies like Boeing and airbus funded, they can start creating their own factories to create jet fuel because it’s not just fuel for gas cars with Hydro crackling it can be created into diesel fuel and jet fuel.
And overall would allow us to change how we are working on an implementing combustion engines instead of worrying about emissions we can worry about efficiencies, because right now worrying about emissions with combustion engines is ruining them recycling your emissions through your engine is terrible for it and making a general push for something like this would be something the whole motor industry should support and even the aerospace industry.

They really should just go back to NA V8’s or V10’s with biofuel.
The fact alone that Audi and Cadillac want to join now that the MGU-H is gone, shows you no one gave a damn about road relevance in the first place.
They want to join for the money, advertising and the prestige of winning.
We’re gonna hear about how designing a V6 without an MGU-H is like “designing a whole new engine.” Well if that’s the case, let’s do that.
Maybe road relevance was a thing in 1970, not in 2024. There’s a big difference between an engine designed to operate most of its time at wide open throttle, vs one designed to operate at 20% load most of the time.
This is sport, this is entertainment. It’s not about just making “more noise” it’s about making “better sound”.

One thing to address here. Why don't they just loosen the engine regulations if they really are interested in "going back to the old days". There's a reason why the lmp1 development battle until 2017 is still interesting despite only having 3-4 teams at the top, because they all have different approaches on their engines. The only thing f1 have to limit is fuel flow and budget, automatically pushing engine manufacturers to make efficient engines without forcing it all to be v6. Let some make an I4, or maybe V8 TT, or even V6 TT hot vee like what ferrari is doing again now.

  • @henriwolbrink
    @henriwolbrink Месяц назад +4

2026 will become 'interesting' so to say.
    But so many doubts are on the table;
Shorter car, slimmer car, less wide tires, no more MGU-H, 40kg less fuel.
And still only 30kg weight reduction.
And 50/50% means that with an empty battery they only have half the power.
If MGU-K is used to break.
Less ICE power if it needs to assist MGU-K in recharging battery.
OK, less drag, so less fuel consumption.
But with constant braking through MGU-K then there will be no more brake disk heat in rear wheels to warm the tyres.
While the front will brake through conventional disk.
Combination of heat in front and rear tyres. And different useage of battery charging will become a headache for Pirelli and teams.

Batteries need to be used for roughly 4.7 years before they become neutral when compared with a petrol equivalent in terms of their relative environmental impact so it's farcical to say this is more friendly to the planet. Also 30KG less weight with a much smaller car with smaller tyres means the cars will not only be slower but have worse handling.

You want to get rid of outwash/inwash, get rid of the front wings. Take inspiration from the original ground effect cars of the late 70's early 80's. Lengthen the sidepods up to the rear of the front wheels, move the venturi section of the underfloor further forward as in the original ground effect cars. The centre of pressure moves forward, no front wing's means no front downforce loss when following close to another car. The car in front has no advantage in front downforce either, as the both have no front wing. Cars will be able to follow others far more closely through corners.

  • @GeometryEX-hp9zs

I’m not convinced by the Liberty Media Group owning F1 by the way they’re managing the rules and regulations plus their choice of what circuits are selected for the near future.
Also the system of 24 races isn’t going to be sustainable for the teams….
Lots of ball dropping and not so much for picking up the ball they’ve just dropped….

Why bigger batteries? if your trying to reduce the weight, just get rid of them, there's the 30kgs. Society needs to understand that electric cars are not the future and are not as good for the environment as they might seem. Eco friendly fuel has too great potential to even consider electric cars for the future, there's already 1.5 billion gas cars, just fix those with efuel. Even though those cars will possibly break top speed records for F1, electrification just takes too big of a role. Can we also talk about how terrible the rear wing looks from behind?

Hamilton has driven in "couple" of different eras?
V8, V6 hybrid, 2022 rule changes if you will.
Alonso has already been driving when there were V10 engines...
A step in the right direction would be to leave out baterries entirely, instead of using more fuel to generate more electric power and still make slower cars.
It's also a joke to "cut" power from the leader so the guy in second can go faster/accelerate quicker. - You can literally just wait behind P1 until the very last lap/straight and just pass him with the advantage of more power, while he is slowed down.

F1 is a business not a sport so it needs to make money for the owners which means weird rules and regulations to entertain cash rich casuals so that they spend their cash. Enticing motor manufacturers into F1 also draws in more casuals.
    F1 is not racing anymore!

I could get on board with that- with two conditions: flywheel KERS only (no batteries or capacitors) and the V8s are naturally aspirated.

Go to what the people want as opposed to the ‘people’ who supposedly tell us what we want.
