I've noticed the maker community in general is super generous when it come to sharing ideas, lifting each other up, and helping others with ways to get their side hustle (or even main hustle!) on. 💪

Hi mate. Been watching for a while now and loving your channel. I have one constructive comment for the label of your wood butter, I would delete the 100% Natural claim. Mineral oil is a petroleum product derived as a byproduct of the refinement process; I believe. So, if anyone challenged you about it, you would lose but if you swapped in "Food Safe" instead, not only would you be safe from those challenges, but it also implies a more natural product at the same time. Good luck.

Yeh, your totally correct. Great idea, not sure why I put the food safe thing on the back if I'm honest... Ill change that up for the next lot of labels. Thanks for the advice and support :)

Great Video David! Wood Butter has been my go to finish for most things for years now - and the recipe is no secret, so i wouldn't bother about showing people how to make it. Well Done!

Another great Video David. It’s amazing how far you have come in a year from working on your garage floor to having your own products.
Hope the butter flys off the shelves in the coming weeks.!!!

Great content, if we had more people with this attitude in the world, we’d be in a better position I reckon. Thanks.

Thanks David, I am totally going to make some myself ;) Was going to buy a tin, but the shipping to NZ is a tad steep. I'll shout you a coffee instead. Keep up the good work!

Hmmm... I thought that coffee mug at the end of the video was one of those coffee shout things, but no. Might be worth looking into?

Thanks mate. Yeh damn shipping. Sadly due to the tins being 30mm high they count as a parcel. I'll need to try and find tins that are thinner but still have a decent volume. Yeh I'm new at the whole RUclips thing, but with everyone being so supportive over the last few months I'll need to look into something like that to try and turn this into a bit more than a hobby. Appreciate it!

You must have been reading my mind! I have been thinking about this very subject. I've begun gathering the raw materials and just ordered the wax melting urn/pot thing (using the link or course). Anyway, keep up the good work mate. All the best. Oh, I hope you sell out of butter in quick time. 👍

Thanks Brian, you're a champion. Hopefully the wax melter is as useful for you as it was for me.

Congrats on getting your wood butter to the marketplace. Every little helps that's for sure and what's a better way to do that than putting your own finish on the market for all to purchase. As for giving away trade secrets for making your wood butter honestly I don't think it will affect your business as it's way easier to hit the buy it now button than it is to outlay the money and buy all the equipment you need to make it. Goodluck, I hope that this Melbourne Wood Butter fly's off the shelf faster than it took you to make it!!! As always buddy 💯% 👍 🇬🇧.

Thanks mate :) Yeh ill need to work out how ebay or etsy works at some point haha. Doubt I'll sell many, but I can dream. So better to give others smarter than I the idea and show how easy it is to make your own finishes.

I use an old electric frying pan. Dump in the oil and then the wax and turn it on. Once the wax is about 70 percent melted i turn if off and keep stsirring till the rest of the wax is melted. Then i let it cool till i can scrap it up and put into my plastic containers as i'm not selling it. Don't buy this stuff just make your own if you use it at all.
I find it kind of funny that you wonder why people buy it and then make yours to sell and want people to buy it lol

Seems like a great product, however shipping to the US is kinda outrageous. With that said, if you are looking for a maker/shipper who _is_ in the US, let me know.

Hey mate, yeh international shipping from Australia is crazy. I'm sure there's cheaper ways than using Aus Post, but not that I am aware of at least. As awesome as partnering up with a supplier in the states sounds, honestly for your sake just start making it yourself. Its super easy and you can sell it alongside anything else you are making. If not hit me up on email and we can sort something out. I do have a friend also selling it that would probably be smarter than myself and offer cheaper shipping.

I buy it because I don't want to sell it. I get through 2 tins a year at most so your production run would almost see me to my grave. Sure I could save 60% but just the urn thing is 20 tins at retail before buying the wax and oil.
    Really good content though.

    • @MelbourneMaker
      @MelbourneMaker  2 месяца назад +1

Yeh I get it, it is super easy to make with a couple of old pots though which makes the entry point cheaper. But yeh, if everyone started making their own I would have a lifetime's supply haha! Cheers
