Somehow missed this but it's now on Playstation Plus so gave it a go....very tough but fun.
The moment I saw this game announced, the literal moment, my first thought was, “Oh boy, I can’t wait to see NL play this.”

Here's what I don't like about this game. No amount of skill can carry you through the tutorial "boss". Egg boy should have beaten that first hole easily. At least soulsborn games have the decency to let you beat the "unbeatable boss". 0/10
Cool idea but this game is painfully slow for artistic reasons
The real purgatory is NL saying “that’s too much wedge. That’s not enough wedge” until the end of time.

I wonder why the game uses a timing based power gauge if you can just cancel out of it? it seems annoying to have to guess what power will work, see where its going to land, and then just undo and try again over and over?
felt the same way about the tutorial tbh. It makes you play a half hole and then you gotta do it again for real, whats the point.
also who needs 15mins of tutorial its just basic golf, aim and shoot lol
Otherwise it’s basically a strategy game which doesn’t seem to be what they’re going for. I think they shouldn’t allow you to back out but that’s probably a little too punishing
It seems like it was made by someone who didn't fully flesh out all of the details/mechanics,same as the tutorial, too long and doesn't cover some of the basic things while over explaining others
@@justinsaunders110 Their point is that you can effectively set the exact power you want anyway, it just wastes more of your time if you initially get the input wrong. This seems like the worst of both worlds, it's needlessly fiddly for people that want to just take the shot they know they're trying to get but not consequential enough for people that want their inputs to matter. Maybe they could fix it by adding another currency like "focus" or something that gets spent when you want to undo a thing and starts at like 25 or something per hole, so you can functionally retry as much as you need if you're usually pretty close to nailing the timing anyway but if you try to really abuse the undo system then you'll eventually be forced to just commit to bad shots later in the hole.
I didn´t even know you could cancel shots. It makes way more sense for a roguelike game to have a punishing result if you mess up your shot. Seems like the creators want it to be more accessible. Last update they also slowed downed the gauge and made it possible to zoom out more.
you have to appreciate the sheer variety in the types of games NL plays
One of the best 2D golf/roguelite games, super fun time! So happy NL is playing it! By the way, the Card Binder lets you bank cards for future runs! Also, after failing your first run, you get a crucial skill but I guess you'll find that out on your own. Cheers, NL is cursed to golf now! XD
omg, i've been playing this game for hours already and never considered using practice shot cards to pick up idols. i basically had been considering basic practice shots one of the worst cards. this changes everything.

Scoping out the first hole was definitely a missed "I'm in Hell" opportunity
I was asking myself why golfers don't just use the driver all the time and just put less power into a shot if necessary. Then NL asked the same and I had a "potential" answer directly pop up in my head.
It's probably easier to just yeet it. Using a "worse" club is probably more consistent then regulating your own strength. It's probably not as easy to use just enough oomph in a shot
Plus if you need to toss the ball upward, it's pretty hard to do that with how the driver's surface is angled. That's why the wedge is made differently.
Gotta come clean here I couldn’t have cared less about this game before but now that NL has uploaded a video on it I’m all over it

I really hope you at least finish this run on next week's stream. I just cleared hole 18 on my second run (spin is OP) and it didn't take too long all together!
I really wanted to like this game, but 20+ shots often on a hole is just tedious and not fun. Also so many small design choices I don't like

The theme when you meet the Scotsman is perfection. It blends groovy 8bit, Scottish, and spooky Halloween music perfectly.

As a Scottish person... when I heard the word 'wee' and then the character was named the Scotsman, my mind immediately said "oh shit, he's going to try the accent isn't he?"

Fun fact, Tiger Woods did not in fact have a chauffeur on the course, during PGA play the players have to walk. The only recent exception I recall was John Daly due to medical reasons, but he had to drive himself.

I've just assumed they were the same and people mispronounced roguelike. But now it's in a title and I'm confused.
Rougelike means that every match is different and if you die that’s it. You restart.
Rouge lite adds death mechanics, such as having a currency you spend after runs to buy things that help you get farther the next run, unlocks from doing specific challenges that make runs easier, etc.
I feel like we have stagnated as a culture, it is time for the first Isekai game.

@@Nowolf Is it even procedurally generated? I wishlisted, read the page and then immediately removed it from my wishlist again because it seems like these are just prebuilt holes in a random order based on the game description and reviews, I think some people are just assuming procedural generation is involved because they're selling it as a "roguelike" (even though the only claim to that seems to be a bit of RNG coupled with permadeath, possibly the flimsiest justification for the genre tag to date).
If the courses are actually generated brand new every single run then I'll probably pick the game up at some point, but they don't look interesting enough to be worth playing through the same "70+ holes" over and over. Kinda sounds like they just designed about four mediocre courses worth of content and then tried to cheat mileage out of it by shuffling the hole order and calling it a hot new roguelike, which is very disappointing since the concept of this is pretty neat.
