Recently had surgery so off work (firefighter/paramedic) n bored out of my grape!! Started getting into sourdough, made a starter n have been baking different stuff. Wanted to do a sandwich style bread, got out our mix master; 27yo wedding gift, that hasn’t been used in years! Wouldn’t start. Pulled up ur channel for the first time. Have checked the brushes, noticed the speed adjustment “bar” had some how come off the plate, took the plate off, put it back together, n adjusted the speeds. Works great n all thanks to ur channel!! Now I may delve into cleaning n greasing it. Thanks again
Sir, you are a national treasure. I work with tools everyday as part of my job, and while I likely could've figured out how to regrease our mixer, your video saved me tons of time and frustration. I'm not a serious baker, but I like to try my hand at bagels and some bread now and then. Where you really are a treasure, is helping out all the moms that just want to bake some cookies with their kiddos and wouldn't have the first clue about how to grease up their mixer or fix up the one they got for cheap at a garage sale. You're the man, keep up the great work!
So thankful to have found your videos. My Grandmother gave me her mixer today that my late grandfather bought for her in the late 80s I believe. I promised her I would clean and tune the machine.
My wife recently bought a Bowl Lift model but decided she doesn't like it as much as her 27 yr old Classic. After 27 years it was definitely showing signs of lubricant follies. I had already bought grease and just needed some walking through. I watched all 3 of the videos and found them very instructional and easy to follow. Thanks for the time you spent putting these together.
Excellent RUclips site. Saved me big $$$$$ when our 20 year old Kitchen Aid would not shift speeding. Two of his videos, 45 minutes of my time, and our unit is like new!!! Thank you Mario!!!👍💪🏻
I've been wondering for years why my 24 year old Kitchen Aid mixer was weeping grease. It's weird that they don't cover this in the manual. Thank you so much for walking me through this process. Let's just say my machine was GUNKED UP! You earned my business- just ordered the grease and a new gasket. Thank you!
You are an excellent teacher! You explained everything so well, what the parts are, what they look like, what to do, and a bit of why. You are also a lot of fun. Thank you!
Very thankful for the videos you posted. Watched all three parts. They were great! So informative and easy to follow.. While preforming the operation we found that the factory had screwed into the red wire on the side and crimped it. Machine had never been opened so had to be from the factory. which explained some odd issues with the mixer, since it was new. So we uncrimped it the best we could, put a piece of electrical tape on for good measure. Carefully put it all back to together as per your instructions. Now the old mixer is up and running, literally better then new. Thank you so much!
I love that you did this service for free. I’m sure it meant the world to this mother! I’m working on taking mine apart to clean and regrease (need to order it first XD) so it will be kosher for my kitchen, as it was a used machine!
Thank you so much for sharing these videos and for the very thoroughly explained steps and instructions. I was able to regrease my mixer, which has been leaking for years, thanks to you!
Mr. Mixer's parts and grease are the highest quality and his videos are truly perfect - they are not only 100% accurate but they are perfectly paced! I highly recommend Mr. Mixer's videos and products
I just stumbled across this video and it is fantastic! My 5 qt tilt head, purchased in 1990, just recently started slowing down and yesterday it stopped spinning under thick dough... This video provided several troubleshooting tips I can try before committing to taking it to a repair shop, or just throwing in the towel and replacing my beloved 34 year old mixer! Thank you!
My kitchen aid stopped working and using mr mixer I was able to identify the problem as a broken worm gear, replace it and degrease it. it’s currently working better than ever! I’ve never done this kind of repair myself, but I’d be willing to try again after this experience. Loved the video it was entertaining and informative!
Thanks for the tutorial! I suspected liquid got into my gear box after a poorly designed tomato sauce making attachment make my kitchenaid smell funny when on. Ordered the grease and a new gasket from you. Just performed the service. Took me about 2 hours periodically going back to your videos to make sure I was following the right sequence and right amount of grease. Founds lots of liquid in the gear box. Thanks for the good info and have the product!
My brother just gave me his old tilt head mixer but I don't think that it has ben serviced in years so I will be buying grease from you soon! Thank you for posting this video!
Best video - thank you so much! I regreased my mixer with confidence. I'm also thankful for the extra tips like how you said the pin could be tough to get out. I really had to whack mine.
Thanks so much! I recently purchased a used mixer and wanted to get off to a great start with it. I watched part 1-3 and successfully replaced the grease. I will now be moving on to re grease my lift bowl mixer.
I wanted to let you know what a help your videos have been to me. My machine isn’t very old and I barely use it, but the grease was leaking everywhere. I tried to find some one to service it in my area and the closest place was 3 hours away. I thought it was hopeless and was researching a new machine until I found your channel. I bought the one thing I needed which was a set of punches and followed your videos. It took me a couple of hours and sore wrists, but the machine is now re greased and working beautifully. Thank you so much!
I would Ike thank you for your videos, I did the re-grease step by step and the machine works great! This save me at least a week having it at the repair store just to get an estimate, I bought all the things as you teach in the videos and did it myself! . Thank you Mr Mixer! (From Buenos Aires, Argentina)
Thanks for posting this. I have a 1984 KitchenAid mixer. Don't recall the model number or name, but it's the 4.5 quart bowl. I watched your video yesterday and did the regrease job today and it's amazing how the model was nearly identical to the one you worked on that was more than thirty years newer. Also interesting is the wear on that plastic worm gear. My mixer was made with what I believe is composite metal gears and they showed very little wear. I have used the mixer quite a bit in forty years and only had it serviced once about ten years ago. That service, I discovered today, was not done well. There was a lock nut missing and the guy used way too little grease. That may be why I've had a concern with how hot the machine has been getting recently, which is why I wanted to regrease and get a look inside. I can't get over how well this thing has held up for forty years and how little wear is on the gears. Thanks again. I couldn't find an authorized service center near me and now I can be my own service center.
Thank you so much for your videos! I wish I lived in Kansas to support your business. I’ve ordered some grease and punches and I’m going to tackle this over the weekend. Everyone thought I was crazy when I said my machine was leaking grease!
You're very welcome John! Thank you for being here I appreciate you! Hope it goes smoothly, I'm rooting for you! Check back in and let me know how it goes! Take a short video of the process and send it in you can be a testimonial 😊
Thank you - a great series of videos! All worked very smoothly. Just one point: our machine had some wiring connected to the base unit, and two clips had to be disconnected when I lifted the motor etc. off. No problem, but I just thought I should mnention it. Thanks again for your very clear explanation. William (London)
Glad to hear it! That's how we keep this channel alive! I'm humble by your support! The rest of the videos will drop in the next few days, they are being uploaded currently!
I watched all three of your EXCELLENT videos in this series. You have a new customer. I'll be placing my order for parts and a regrease kit immediately! Thanks and kudos for a job well done!
I am impressed! You got right to the point, and it was very easy to understand and it wasn’t a standard, RUclips video where people just like to hear themselves talk.
Thank you, hope you are thriving. I will definitely freeze next time. You really came to my rescue, I did need to by the 1/8 machine puNch, my pin was a bear.
Thank you so much for this content. My mixer is > 15 years old & I’ve been wondering how this could be done. I just regressed mine with your instructions. I’m surprised to see I was within 1 block of your story this spring. I stopped in at the Augusta Historical Museum. My family lived there in the 1890s.
Thanks for all the vids you provide. Got all my replacement parts comin from your website to update our mixer. We have used it multiple times a week for about 12 years and never once did this. It was pretty gross in there haha
Thank you so much for these videos, extremely clear and detailed - just what I needed to re-grease my leaking 5KSM90BAC after being in storage for 6 years!!! I also replaced the nylon gear and the motor brushes whilst I was at it, just in case :)
What have I gotten myself into?? I am not able to get the top piece off. I've taken out all the screws. The model is older than the one you have in the video. Mine is a model K-45, if that matters. It might be stuck where the big pin is located.
@@MrMixer316 I tried that. It partially came up so I scooped out some grease (it was brown 🤢) and it came loose. I just sent you an email about a new gasket for an older K-45. Thank you!!
I have tried all the methods you describe to get this pin out of machine at 6:55minutes into your video and it will NOT budge. Any suggestions? By the way, I know that once I get this piece taken care of I will be able to follow your very excellent videos on how to get this machine running like new. I LOVE your work and information! Thank you!
@@MrMixer316 thank you…1. Think I have found the error of my ways. I was using a ball pointed chisel instead of a concave chisel. So I have damaged the one in there and will likely have to drill it out and buy a new one. Thank you for your assistance. You are the master of this process!
FYI - I repair and service long arm quilting machines for a living and this is not really out of my realm of expertise. I love your videos and I have watched a bunch from others and I think you are the best!
I have been trying to remove that pin for days!!!! - tried penetrating oil, tried heat gun, put the mixer in freezer, hammered with the 1/8” punch from both sides! The pin almost seems to be cold welded in there - it has not budged AT ALL. Any other thoughts?!!!
We have one bought in 1998 with the flat head bolts holding the top to the housing. However, when I first took off the cap on the back of the machine (the very first screw to take off), a loose nut fell out of that cap. It measures to be a 10mm nut. I looked all over in the machine and can't find where that might go. We just bought grease and a worm gear from you. Good stuff!
These are great videos! Thank you so much for all the little details you've taken the time to explain. I'm wondering if all this also applies to the KitchenAid mini 3.3L (e.g. 5KSM3311XBBM). I cannot find any videos showing the inside of one. Cheers
Hi! Just inherited an Ultra Power which I believe is the KSM 90. Hoping your 3 tutorials will work on this model? It's running fine, but I'm guessing it's never been taken apart and serviced. I've gotten into making pizza and hope to do some baking so this would be great! If you still monitor old videos, would love to hear from you. Cheers!
I have two lift type Kitchen Aids. 1 is 32 years old (my fave) and 1 is prob. under 10 years old. It seems all of your instructions are for tilt head mixers. Is there a difference in instructions? Also, the under 10 year mixer was recently gifted to me and the diff is HUGE ...it feels wonky, but I did watch your video re spring and washer replacement, which I will be ordering. It is also a bit loud and whiney....maybe needs grease? My old mixer has never been regreased, but also on the to do list as I cannot part with it. Please advise about the diff. in your instructions for tilt head v. lift bowl. thank you....getting ready to start dismantling. Victoria
Is there a video showing what a mixer sounds like and runs like if it needs a re-grease? I got a used one and it sounds a little rough, but just curious what an old one sounds like and if the re-greasing fixes the sound.
Regrease can help with some sound but if it's a grind or a vibration sound it's likely related to other issues like damaged gears or a bad bearing bracket.
Thank you for this great set of vids. I just re-greased a used red machine just like the one in your vid. The grease in mine looked nasty just like yours. When I started it up after I finished re-greasing there was a kind of crackling/splattering noise, like the grease was flying against the inside housing, at least that's what I hope it was. I can't tell you how chicken I was to turn on the machine when I was done. It's running fine, thankfully. I used a kitchen mixer grease product, gasket, worm drive gear from a kit on Amazon. I can't believe you only charge 50.00 for re-greasing. i used an entire roll of paper towels, a pile of cotton swabs, and dawn detergent to wash off the gears, et al. I am not OCD, just particular.
Love your videos! My classic mixer was making an ever increasing awful noise and I was attempting to break into the things to re-grease the gears when I saw in your other video that the issue could be that the bolts holding the bearing bracket in place could be loose and causing the noise. Problem solve! However, after removing the rotary and the 4 screws, I could not get the upper housing off. With muscle I could separate the upper and lower housings by 1/4 inch. Would you know why this is the case?
hi ! thx for your video that helps a lot although with my kitchenaid I never managed to get this pin loose it is really tightly shoved into the planetary and on top of that when I put it back together the motor did not start up, I had the brushes removed by error, do you have an idea on how to mount the brushes back correctly ? or why it did not start
I keep seeing videos of a bar that goes across supporting the speed control bar, when did they stop using that support bar? I see this pink mixer does not have it
I jus received a Ka artisan...after how long time i must grease, it s just for home using not every day, or which are the signs that i must grease it, ? Thanks
Hello I have a question regarding a KitchenAid that I bought from US and I brought to Jordan. The electricity in Jordan 220V. After we plugged it, the machine stoped working and I don’t what happened. Did we lose it? Is it still fixable? Thank you soooooo much for your answer in advance.
@@MrMixer316 Yes it is! I will buy it from US and bring it back with me when i go visit this summer. Thank you man. I really appreciate your replies. God bless
Love your video. We can't get the side tiny bolt out. The part you said is intimidating if you could help that would be great. Also the issue is that the piece that runs/is pushed by the spring isn't staying under the spring so we can get it on but after about 10 movements with the control arm is stops moving again until we sneak back on (from the back of the machine since we can't get that small bolt out.
I’ve had my Kitchen-aid Pro for about 17 years I use it 5-10 time a year and it is still in good working order. I was wondering if I should open it and re grease it. Also how often should I check?
Finally managed to get the pin out of an Artisan and thought I was over the hump. However, it's about 17 years old and never been serviced. Now really struggling to remove the planetary without putting so much screwdriver pressure on the rim that I am bending it. Any thoughts?
@@MrMixer316 Yes. They probably could have been a more perfect sized blade for the job, but eventually have managed by rotating the planetary small amounts and using one screwdriver, getting deeper and deeper in, avoiding the internal gear. Eventually pried it off. Thank you very much for your immediate response though. Heading for part 2 tomorrow I think! Top man. Great video.
I’m working on my second mixer to replace the grease. I took the pin out of the planetary and now the planetary won’t come off. I used 2 flat screw drivers to pry the planetary off and I bent the planetary. I gave up for a while and now I’m trying again. I cannot get the planetary off at all. It will not budge. What do you suggest?
Well unfortunately it's going to have to be forced off it sounds like. Usually prying takes it right off if it can't be pulled by hand. If you force it off we do have planetaries available
Hey Mr Mixer I just acquired a K5SS and I'm trying to determine how old it is. It has KitchenAid Division of Hobart written on the side if that helps determine the age. I'm also trying to find the Bowl Height Adjustment Screw. Any clues or assistance would be appreciated.
If it says Hobart, it's pre 1986 and since it's a k5ss it's post 1978, so it's in that time frame!! The adjustment screw isnt always present on the k5ss as they made a ton of different models of it, if it's present it's running perpendicular and it's right where the center of the arms come up and meet the lower housing
@@spainman2happy to help! Check out our tutorials for the k5ss, all of the electronics match the tilt heads so you can follow those for any electric work!
Hi Mr. Mixer. It was my first time trying to clean my mixer and I took off one of the black buttons in the top, it was the only thing I took off before I decided to watch another video but when I put it on it stopped working. Now it won’t turn on, can u help me understand what happened? Thank you in advance
I can’t get the band to stay on now on the front of the mixer. I used the mallet and it fits on but just pops right back off. Is there a trick to get it to stay? I turned it several different ways thinking there was a groove it might need to catch but nope.
The paint that is on the 5 or 6 little ridges where it seats have too much paint which is causing it to slide down, trim a bit of paint with a razor off of the ledges and it should seat properly!
In the background of the video is a yellow-green K45 mixer, the same model I have. Do you have a video for opening it up and cleaning and changing the grease? There's a burning, smoking smell coming from the rear of my machine when its run at speed 10. The screws are not the same as the pink mixer.
I am so happy that mario has decided to pick up a new profession. Plumbing was just getting too dangerous.
Gotta branch out at sometime xD
Thank you so much I have been scared to death for the past 3 years to open my mixer and with your help I pulled it off ...So a huge Thank you !!!!

Mine is on its way to you for service. I hope my tissue paper and painter's tape was sufficient packaging. ;) Joking of course.
thanks so much for all your informative videos! will this be more or less the same procedure for re-greasing a K45?
I have tried all the methods you describe to get this pin out of machine at 6:55minutes into your video and it will NOT budge. Any suggestions? By the way, I know that once I get this piece taken care of I will be able to follow your very excellent videos on how to get this machine running like new. I LOVE your work and information! Thank you!
Honestly hit it harder 😅 that's about the only advice. I've had to drill them out before but it's pretty rare.
@@MrMixer316 thank you…1. Think I have found the error of my ways. I was using a ball pointed chisel instead of a concave chisel. So I have damaged the one in there and will likely have to drill it out and buy a new one. Thank you for your assistance. You are the master of this process!
A ball pointed punch, not chisel!
FYI - I repair and service long arm quilting machines for a living and this is not really out of my realm of expertise. I love your videos and I have watched a bunch from others and I think you are the best!
Thank-u for this video!
Now that we exchanged gasket & grease our mixer will not come on! 😢. What do we do now?
I have been trying to remove that pin for days!!!! - tried penetrating oil, tried heat gun, put the mixer in freezer, hammered with the 1/8” punch from both sides! The pin almost seems to be cold welded in there - it has not budged AT ALL. Any other thoughts?!!!
Hit it really hard! If that doesn't work it's possible it needs drilled out but that is pretty uncommon
Good stuff!
Ha! When am I watching this? On a Tuesday 😅🤣🤣
8:30 mine had a snap ring, I used a pair of harbor freight pliers
But seriously thanks for thes vids man your great!
Excellent vid. Thanks.
Cheers!
Great content, thanks!
K5SS video please!
Consider a maintenance bundle for the store, grease and replacement washers/gasket?
Hey Adam thanks for the tips, we are working with a manufacturer to make them available as soon as possible! K5SS video coming soon =)
Thanks for the instructions. My tilt head 4.5 quart KA got locked. It doesn’t tilt back. What should I do?
It must be rubbing for some reason or the handle may be bent you will have to inspect it to find out why it won't move
Thank you so much! I got a mixer from a thrift store, and when I opened it up it had absolutely zero grease left inside.
You never Really know what you'll find when you open one up 😅
@@MrMixer316 no kidding. It also had all metal washers and gears instead of plastic and cardboard
Victoria
We have how to's on all the different models. Check our pro 600 regrease and our K5SS regrease tutorials
@@MrMixer316 Thanks!
Minute 1:30. When you say they are the exact same machine, means that we can fix one with parts of the other? Motor, gears, governor??
Yep, as long as it's another tilt head (not the tilt head mini)
Should the planetary gear that’s removed (8 mins into the vid) turn easily? There’s quite a bit of resistance with mine
It should turn easily when removed from the machine, if it is tight, take off the agitator shaft and clean it and then lube it a bit
@@MrMixer316 yes, I thought it should turn freely, thanks for confirming, the vids were great btw 👍🏻
I loved you in the Donkey Kong game!
I keep seeing videos of a bar that goes across supporting the speed control bar, when did they stop using that support bar? I see this pink mixer does not have it
My guess is 2018-2019 when they removed it
@@MrMixer316 Looks like they cheapened the speed control bar too, mine felt like plastic.
I jus received a Ka artisan...after how long time i must grease, it s just for home using not every day, or which are the signs that i must grease it, ? Thanks
We reccomend every few years
Hello
I have a question regarding a KitchenAid that I bought from US and I brought to Jordan. The electricity in Jordan 220V. After we plugged it, the machine stoped working and I don’t what happened. Did we lose it? Is it still fixable?
Thank you soooooo much for your answer in advance.
It's fixable it likely blew out the phase control board, did you use a power converter?
@@MrMixer316 no we didn’t unfortunately.
@@khaledalsadi9038 OK yea it will need the phase board replaced otherwise the rest of the machine is likely safe! It is a tilt head correct?
@@MrMixer316 Yes it is! I will buy it from US and bring it back with me when i go visit this summer. Thank you man. I really appreciate your replies. God bless
@@khaledalsadi3055 we offer it on our website 😁
Love your video. We can't get the side tiny bolt out. The part you said is intimidating if you could help that would be great. Also the issue is that the piece that runs/is pushed by the spring isn't staying under the spring so we can get it on but after about 10 movements with the control arm is stops moving again until we sneak back on (from the back of the machine since we can't get that small bolt out.
My son in law cannot get the pin out to clean up the grease and replace. It’s an older model but it was new in box. Can u advise pls?
I’ve had my Kitchen-aid Pro for about 17 years I use it 5-10 time a year and it is still in good working order. I was wondering if I should open it and re grease it. Also how often should I check?
I would say yes, with how little it's used the grease is likely dried out! We reccomend a regrease/tune every few years
Finally managed to get the pin out of an Artisan and thought I was over the hump. However, it's about 17 years old and never been serviced. Now really struggling to remove the planetary without putting so much screwdriver pressure on the rim that I am bending it. Any thoughts?
Have you used two screw drivers at the same time?
@@MrMixer316 Thanks for your quick response.
@@spainman2happy to help! Check out our tutorials for the k5ss, all of the electronics match the tilt heads so you can follow those for any electric work!
Hi there, is there a video showing how to re assemble the mixer pls?
You are too kind.❤
❤️❤️
Good stuff, thanks.
Hi Mr. Mixer. It was my first time trying to clean my mixer and I took off one of the black buttons in the top, it was the only thing I took off before I decided to watch another video but when I put it on it stopped working. Now it won’t turn on, can u help me understand what happened? Thank you in advance
@@michellemartinez9112 we have a carbon motor brush video here on youtube, they are keyed and designed to go in a particular fashion
Have you ever upgraded the non-solid State speed control to the newer style Solid state speed control?
Yes I have, to replace it with all new parts is quite pricey, but you can get a parts machine for cheap and do a swap
Great teacher. I felt bad for his baby crying bc he was making the video and couldn’t take care of him.
I need a video on a kitchenaid mini 😩
I'll be making a series soon! They just aren't as common so it wasnt a main priority unfortunately!
Is there any other way to clean it without taking the pin out? I have tried for days to get it out and it is not budging
This is my question, too - my pin will not budge and I'm just ready to cry over it
In the background of the video is a yellow-green K45 mixer, the same model I have. Do you have a video for opening it up and cleaning and changing the grease? There's a burning, smoking smell coming from the rear of my machine when its run at speed 10. The screws are not the same as the pink mixer.
Fantastic videos. Thank you
Do you have any additional tips or tricks on getting the pin out? I've been trying to get mine out for a while now and it isn't budging.
Me too!!
