This video saved me hundreds of dollars! I am a 60 year old woman and not at all mechanically skilled. Still, I was able to repair my quarter-century-old KitchenAid mixer after it stopped spinning during a marathon cookie dough endeavor. Thank you for your simple, clear instructions and quick delivery on parts! I was unable to budge the inside roll pin (I finally beat it to death, I think) and ended up buying the whole tower for a few dollars more. Voila! It works like new! Yay!!!!

    Mark,
Thanks so much for this video. I have used it twice to repair my wife's mixer (or mix-mixer as our son calls it). I really appreciate the clear directions for making the repair. I have already recommended this tutorial to family members in case they ever need to fix their mixers.
Again, thank you! This is a great video!

What a great video! I liked it especially you took a time to show step by step of the reassembling. Most shows tend to say, "that's it, you put them back in reverse order" or something and leave us like we will never encounter any problem. The camera work of the show is excellent. The guy (Mark?) spoke very clearly, and not condescending to the audience. The best tutorial show ever!!

Thanks Mark, you saved me a lot of money. My mum, dad and I all worked together to fix this and it was a fun project. We were slightly discombobulated to find a spare cog fell when removing the housing, but soon worked out it was the attachment cog and put it back in. Getting the pins out and in again took a bit more effort that it seems on the video. But all in all, very smooth, thanks to your clear and steady instructions. Thanks again Kelly and family, Canterbury, UK.

This is a very straightforward video, and I don't see how anyone is giving it a thumbs down. Although it's messy, this is a rather simple fix, which is impressive. I watched this video prior to buying a different model Kitchenaid mixer, just to verify that they are in fact repairable, and I'm glad I did. Nice work, and thanks for taking the time to get your hands all greasy for the knowledge gained for the rest of us.

This video was a lifesaver! Thank you for putting it together and being so detailed. I was able to fix my wife's mixer in about and hour after obtaining the part and the grease. We thought the mixer was a gonner until I saw this. Thanks again! I replaced the grease inside the mixer because what was in there didn't look very good and it wasn't covering the gears very well.

Thank you so much! We bought our mixer brand new and it leaked hot grease right from the start. We should have taken it in for warranty, but we figured we would have paid for a new mixer by the time we paid for shipping and the cost of repairs (they might have covered, but what's done is done). So there it sat in the kitchen unused for about 5 years.
I felt like today was the day to fix it. So the biggest mystery to me was how to take it apart. Thankfully I ran across this video, which just so happened to be the first video I came across. From just watching a couple of minutes of your video I was able to take it apart and fix it! All I had to do was clean the gasket and I added some form-a-gasket just for good measure, put it all back together and it's literally a brand new mixer now! Thanks again for such an informative video!

I had to replace the speed lever, which required the disassembly shown in this video. Never in a million years would I have been able to figure it out on my own. This saved me a ton of aggravation. One thing that was missing from the re-assembly section (or maybe I missed it) was that you need to be careful of the location of the electrical wires when you replace the top housing. Once I got mine screwed down tight, I discovered that one if the wires was pinched between the housing and the main unit and I needed to to loosen the screws to free it. Thanks so much for this video.

Excellent step by step video that gave me the knowledge to re and re the ratched worm gear. This would have cost a mint in the repair shop!
    Thanks for the video!
One thing that wasn't mentioned is you do need to disconnect a pair of wires in the back to fully disconnect the lid. I just made sure they went back in the same place from where they came from.

This video is great for two reasons:
    1. Watching this video prevented me from making several mistakes which would have happened had I just began disassembling my mixer to figure out what the problem is.
    2. This video also makes it clear that this is a repair I can do and I don't need to take my mixer to a repair shop.
    Thanks.

  • @michaelanthonyleone

Thank you for the video. Everything is back together and working great.
    A couple points
I have an older KSM5DGR, with a fixed motor and a movable bowl. You have to remove the four Philips #3 or #4 screws holding the head assembly from the stand to get at the two "hidden" screws underneath. Thirteen screws in all.
There's also a "head gasket" between the upper motor assembly and the lower gear assembly. It only goes in one way; so that's not a problem. Just don't forget to put it back. (Yeah, I forgot and had to tear everything apart again).
As for roll pin on the worm gear, it was a pain the the butt. I eventually used the next smaller punch in my set, and a bunched up shop towel to help hold it in place. It finally came out. You just have to keep at it.

Great video. I also had a very hard time removing the planetary roll pin. Finally got it done by using a drill with small metal bit to make a shallow hole in the top of pin. My pin punch then held in the hole without slipping, and I was able to give it a few strong whacks with the hammer. Came right out. A little cosmetic damage but the pin was still usable. Thanks for the instructions!!!

This video was EXCELLENT!! Thank you VERY MUCH!!... I completed the repair this afternoon. All by myself!... I am a very satisfied middle-aged woman. I know my family will be very satisfied when I get back to baking now. I had not read the comments here before I completed the repair, and had ordered a can of grease, because I was worried that the existing grease would have bits of the old shredded gear in it and that would lead to a future jam up.. Thank you for sparing me expense and hassles!!!

Followed the instructions to the letter and my mixer is back in business!
One thing to double check when re-attaching the motor assembly is that none of the motor wires get between the motor assembly and the chassis. It happened to me and fortunately I noticed before I screwed the 2 together.

Great video! Instead of replacing just the worm gear, I ordered and replaced the whole worm gear assembly. The cost was less than $10 and this way I didn't have to worry with knocking out the worm gear pin. Just remove the 3 phillips head screws, pull out the old assembly and replace with the new one. Works as good as new now. Thanks again!

+Greg Grubb After reading your comment, I went to the eReplacementParts.com website and sure enough, the cost of the whole worm gear assembly is the same as the cost of just the worm gear. Someone else asked why that was, but they didn't answer specifically- just suggested that if they had to replace it, they would replace the whole thing. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

Thanks. Great video. Replaced worm gear easily. Didn't even need punches. Two nails with the point snipped off did the job. One point if you've got KSM45 -240 volt, there's a little electric board attaching the motor part (top), to the tower (lower). Just 2 extra screws, but don't be surprised at 3:20 if the motor doesn't release cleanly!

Great video. Since getting the mixers repaired in Europe is pretty difficult, you gave me a great help. It's very important to get the right tool, especially for removing the pins. The most difficult, the one in the main shaft, can be removed with a 4 mm punch. The smaller one with 2 mm punch.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!! You just saved me $300.00. My mixer is the style that lifts the bowl. With one additional step of taking off the stand to access 2 hidden screws, I was able to do this myself in less than 2 hours. You guys are awesome!

Thank you, thank you, thank you. I knew I could save my wife's beloved mixer if I could just figure out how to get the cover off. You gave me that and more. Worm gear has 4 or 5 worn teeth, the control is cracked and the brushes are worn. I ordered all the parts I needed from eReplacement part and will check back in when I have it working again.

These are very clear easy to follow instructions. Hopefully it's as easy to do as you make it sound!

anyone trying to remove the first outside dowel pin, you need to lay the mixer on its side, put a 2x4 on the the under side of the dowel pin along the white body to support it, then wack it HARD several times with a punch and hammer, and it will come loose. The purpose of the 2x4 is so you don't transfer your entire hammer force to the axle. We don't want a broken center axle.

Wonderfully informative video! I didn't have a transmission problem with mine, but the speed control was so heavily worn that it would not stay in the off, or speed 1 position. Your video showed me how to get to that speed control lever properly. Added 1 $0.001 washer to slightly increase the tension, and problem solved! Thanks so much again! Subscribed!
