The Mid-Year C2 Corvette is the Most Beautiful and Historically Interesting Sting Ray - 1964 Coupe

- SOLD Mid-Year Corvettes, made from 1963-1967, are arguably the best looking Corvette made, and loved even by people who don't car much about cars. Designed by automotive legends like Zora-Arkus-Duntov, Bill Mitchell, Larry Shinoda, and many others, they represented the quest to built a true America sports car that could compete with the best Europe had to offer, both on the street and the racetrack.
Bringing about many technical innovations at the time, the car was completely designed from the bottom up to reward the driver with handling, precision, power, and braking while delivering comfort and a smooth ride on the street. Innovations that came out during the MidYear era were independent suspension, a ladder-type frame, wind tunnel testing, 4-wheel disc brakes, and more.
All in all, these were the right car, at the right time, built by the right people. I believe they are the most interesting Corvette ever made, the most beautiful, and in many ways the most important. This was the car that sealed the Corvette in to American culture permanently.
Review and test drive by Bill SOLD Авто/Мото
Bill is not only a car salesman, but a true car historian. Comedy included. 😎✌
Finally, a car that doesn't beep at you when you get in it. For the love of God.
Actually has a key !
I got a Prius as a rental once, I think it was a 2020 or 21 model...I almost instantly returned it. I drive a 20yr old ecobox with manual everything, so this was really hard to drive, sensors and alarms going off left and right for no reason...just because I was backing up. I will take a basic car/truck any day. Love this vette for it basic raw muscle.
I'm a corvette guy. I can confirm that Bill's history lesson is on point.
2 speed Automatic ?
@@dinopappous6639 yes
@@dinopappous6639 It was called a Powerglide. It was derived from a racing transmission.
I never would have thought a tan corvette would have looked good but damn that looks classy esp with the ko's
Bill, I was so close to booking the next flight to Naples after watching this. Loved the history lesson on these cars. Thanks
If you had shown me a sample of that paint and said it was for a Corvette, I would have thought you were crazy. But it works so well - all the creases, curves and other features of the body are emphasized instead of being overwhelmed by shiny red, black, or whatever. The guy who buys that will be getting a real beauty.
Maybe the best application of aftermarket dash gauges I've ever seen. They actually enhance this car's interior. Beautiful machine all around.
This Vette reminds me of Lena Horne: No matter how old she got, she still looked good.
truth
Bill waxes poetic, and he is so right on the money. My brother bought a new 66 with the side pipes and I was immediately hooked.
Wow, after watching Bill review mostly malaise era American family cars over the past month or so, it is refreshing to see him in such an optimistic mood. This Stingray probably works better than antidepressants.
You Sir are an awesome oritor I actually binge watched most of your videos, they are very informative and entertaining great job.
do
Do you happen to be family of James Best, who played Rosco P. Coltrane, sir?
I have had my '64 roadster since 1973.
51 years of fun.
Five engines,two rear ends,two tops,3 paint jobs,fiberglass leafspring,1windshield and one leather interior
all with the same Muncie 4 speed trans.
Great fun surpassed only by my '16 Z51!
"Celebrating humanity and not lamenting how horrible we are". I come here for comedic relief and a resst from daily life. However, you are quite the philosopher and it's got me thinking. Very well put.
This dude is a trip... thats about the 5th car review i watched today while being on lockdown here in NY. Great shit !!!! Major Corvette history buff ! This C2 is a BEAUTY !!!
Doing the same in Europe 🤘
Among your very best reviews! 🤩 Great historical background and some truly poetic descriptions. A post for the ages about a car for the ages. Thank you 🙏
Wonderful color combo, really elegant and very rare. Timeless Beauty!! Thanks for showing and a special appreciation for your enjoyable report about this icon. 👍👌
Greetings from Austria 👈🇦🇹😎
True American icon, really rare car in Finland. There's one in my neighboring village with 500 people. The guy keeps it in his garage, hardly ever drives it. Seen it couple of times. Such a beauty. Thank you Sir for the marvelous video.
Ah yes, the Mid-year 'vettes. I've always loved them. Looking at it would sooth you, like a valium might. Perfect description.
Probably the nicest Corvette ever.
Whenever I see this gen of corvette I let out a visceral grunt like I'm looking at a supermodel in a swimsuit when I see them from that back angle. My gosh these Vettes are stunningly beautiful!
I love corvettes like this in these color schemes. They look so CLASSY!!! Beautiful car!
That car is dripping with class! ... Outstanding!!
Brings tears to my eyes..GM in its glory years...beautuful..
I agree with you. It’s so beautiful! I wish GM makes classy cars like this again.
This car, in my opinion, is truly beautiful.
He is the best car salesman ever!!
That crash was at Lemans!Beautiful car!
The C2 is my absolute favorite Corvette.
Harley Earl and Bill Mitchell were legendary GM designers. The fact that Duntov and Mitchell were able to collaborate at that time on the development of such a fine automobile is akin to a great musical collaboration like Lennon and McCartney.
This vehicle is mine & what is stated about this vehicle is all true. Beautiful, needs nothing, except for someone to drive her. I will gladly share any info about her as well.
I can't believe how stunning that color is on a vette. I'm speachless. Beats the red/black that you see all the time, hands down. I thought I've seen everything to do with this year vette. Love it love it. Can I finance it for 30 years??? Lol
awesome car and excellent presentation
Anyone who's seen Zora smoke a cigarette next to his race car knows instantly he was one of the coolest cats in automotive history. It's too bad Hollywood would funk it up, as his biopic would be epic stuff.
That Car is beautiful! Perfection! I wish I had the money to buy one. What a great design! And it’s so streamlined and looks like a Stingray even!
If GM was smart they would make this exact Model over again for a reasonable price. I bet it would sell like hotcakes! But they don’t think that way. At a certain point you achieve perfection in design! This is it! Just Look at it! I bet it’s great in a Windtunnel Test! What drag quotient could this model have? It’s so sleek and streamlined! I love it and the back windows are so cool looking!
Nice description you made.
Good speech!! Yes, the Corvette is a Celebration of life and freedom! The freedom to drive down the road and roam freely!
The Sweet life! La Dolce Vita!
It figures it’s from the Sixties because that was the peak of American 🇺🇸 Civilization in my opinion and it’s been downhill ever since. 1960. Nothing looks as good as this today.
Thanks for showing this Beauty on RUclips!
Bill, you always increase our car IQs with your great car knowledge!👍
Not a 'bigger 4 bbl. carb. for 300 HP' but bump up from 8.5:1 to 10:1 compression ratio... and the car does have a distributor, it's under the metal radio interference blocking shield, because fibreglas doesn't block ignition noise...
This is why i love your videos. This one is a really good one as im a corvette fan. It's nice to hear someone show the same love for the car and for all the cars that you love and review. Keep it up
Damn it’s a sweet car, always liked those and the barracuda’s from that era a similar look
I drove a car with that combo of 327 with powerglide and wow, constant tourque to like 60mph then shifts and sinks you in the seat again, I can vouch that trans is bulletproof I shot many at it
Awesome job as always, Bill. Really love the videos.
Great summary of the vehicle and its history. Nice job
Gosh the c2 corvette IS the greatest looking car ever created. And I'm a Ford guy mostly.
Beautiful color.
I thoroughly enjoyed the history lesson 😀👍🏼
What a beauty indeed.
Beautiful example of a C2 Corvette 👍
13:26 I think Bill's referring to the 1955 MB crash disaster at Le Mans, where 83 spectators and the driver were killed.
Can't I remember a magazine ad for this era Corvette with a pic of one driving in the middle of the road, punch line:- Clip along the dotted line.
Absolutely. And my favorite Corvette advert.
I disagree with people about the power glide , My grandfather bought a new 1964 Impala that we still had 20 years later and the transmission was indestructible.
Love the front parking lamp design of the 63-67 Vette, always looked to me like two torpedo tubes ready to blow away any vehicles blocking her way.
looks epic
I rarely click like so quick! Keep it coming!
@@curiouscars9282 I also loved the history lesson! My dissertation was on Raymond Lowey and I studied Harley Earl extensively! You were on point sir. A very well made video!
@@curiouscars9282 is he your only detailer? If so, that is your problem. I'm a detailer, and people always expect me to finish their crusty cars in an hour max.
when you were younger. Did you used to trip on shrooms or lsd? Just seems like it. Very poetic. Nice vid btw. Keep uploading more. Be nice to see an rx7 on here. Stock FC na drive would be awesome.
Keep the vids up!
Hi , comming from Voitures & Ingénierie , David (french youtuber)
Another awesome video. Why don’t you have millions of followers!
Love these old vettes
TOO THE 2 FOLKS THAT GAVE THIS A THUMBS DOWN, WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU?
1963 thru `67 Vette ..... YES ... the Best !
Fantastic video again and so knowledgeable about all you vehicles for sale, I am inspired to purchase a Mercedes CLK Cabriolet or E350 cdi Cabriolet as a second car, its just a shame I am in Fife Scotland, would liked to buy from you, keep up the great work much appreciated, Thank You
@@curiouscars9282 , Have to agree with you, diesel is on the way out here too, almost every new car has electrification just now or on the way, Thank you again for your excellent web site and uploads.
At 3 minutes in I forgot I came here to see a corvette!
And your Canadians will hate it because there's no room at all!
Always wondered how 1953-1955 Corvettes can be considered the same generation as 1956-1962 Corvettes.
No independent rear suspension... only drum brakes...
Though in my opinion the previous generation of Corvettes was better looking, I love this car and would drive it until the wheels fall off.
Bill should be doing Documentaries
GREAT ! I Subscribe your chanel .
Are those dash gauges aftermarket or original? Very art deco and cool.
The way you tell the story is great! I admit you put things into perspective! Very updated on auto history! Now that’s a masterpiece of a vette! Seen the one recently ! Looks like a bastard son from a Ferrari father and a bimbo Chevy mother! Keep up your presentations are veeeery interesting! Maybe it’s the boose and the Florida weather! Cheers!
Now thats how to sell a car. ...nice Vette.
If only I had the money 😫
You should probably read the Biography of Zora Arkus-Duntov. His parents were Russian. He was born in Belgium to Russian Jewish Parents. His parents moved back to Russia when Zora was 1 years old.
That accident was Le Mans 1955
how long are the gears on a 2 speed? always fascinated by that [can't say the word]
gearbox works :-)
Starts in what would normally be about '2nd gear'... then shifts into '3rd' 1:1 ... Torque converter was supposed to take the place of 1st gear off the line... this car with PowerGlide would hit 80-85 in the 1/4... close to 100 with a 4 speed...
I checked to be sure, since I owned a 1964 Corvette in my youth, there was NO electronic ignition system option for a 1964 Corvette.
👍👍
Show you are amazing I could listen to you all day. In the love you have for cars is Unmatched On RUclips Except for maybe Lou!
that accident was in switzerland, not Nürburgring...that said, this Vette is probably the only american car i would truly consider buying. Sorry for sounding smuck, but it`s the truth lol-
such a beauty.
from germany.
edit- always been a fan of american cars, and there were plenty of US cars i seriously considered buying- but it was either the gas-mileage or built q. that shy`d me away...
Pretty sure hes talking about the 1955 LeMans accident
If you're still interested in getting some American iron, might I recommend Studebaker? They're the oldest and most important marque we have here by far, their cars were always known for solid build quality, and their fuel efficiency was generally better than other American cars of their time. The Studebaker Driver's Club is also a great resource to have, as they'll lead you to all the spare parts and help you could want.
$82,900
cheaper than a c-8 small blocks lot lighter
People who dog a Powerglide never drove a Powerglide. Had one bolted to a 327 in a '69 BelAir I inherited. 45 mph in 1st gear!? Yep.
PowerGlides are slugs... this car with PowerGlide would hit 80-85 in the 1/4... close to 100 with a 4 speed...
Your '69 should have hit 80 in 1st, 120 in 2nd... if a powerglide... but by '69 prolly 3 speed Hydramatic T-350... and the engine a 350"...
Starts in what would normally be about '2nd gear'... then shifts into '3rd' 1:1 ... Torque converter was supposed to take the place of a real 1st gear off the line... Should be called slip&slide...
Chevy should have made the 4 speed Hydramatic an option starting in 1950's...
Did you miss the Cocoon spaceship?
13:30> moratorium may seem over-reacting in long memory, but carnage at the time was truly horrid; e.g. one little boy, head slashed off by flying car parts, still held an ice cream cone with the his body in normal stance.
how many racing trophies to its name?
The only other one I liked better was the split window one...
I didn't like to obstruction when looking out the rear view mirror and was glad when they did away with it.
So what's the price?
The only thing I never understood, maybe the exception being the vette why the seats were flat and you would be sliding over into the passenger seat, performance," BOLONGA" and this went on till the late 70,s if I,am not mistaken the only thing good was driving straight
Quadrajet?
Le Mans 24 Hours , France 1955. Over 80 innocent spectators burned and crushed to death, but the detailer is still alive.
What do you mean by "detailer"?
@@brandonherrera2891 He's referring to a comment Bill made toward the end of the video.
A clever reference to bring levity into what was a horrible incident.
@@MikeBMW oh yeah, his detailer. Lol.
@@brandonherrera2891 Detailer: A guy that cleans cars with situational unawareness.
@@Pr3ct your's truly
does this car have the heads-up display? LOL
Please, please, please...it's NOT Heads Up Display, it's Head Up Display. I have yet to see even a dealer, or Corvette enthusiast get this right.
This was designed by Zora Duntov a practicing Belgian Jew who learned auto design in France before immigrating to America. When you think of French auto design from you can see the design influence. Think Citroen.
I give you props your the only one to mention the driver side gills are Functional! And only appear on the 1964 & 65 Corvettes. Thy are so Over looked !!!!!
Buddy of mine bought the same, identical car, a mint 327 4-bbl with a T10 4spd in 1969 for $2,300 from a guy that was drafted into the Army. All the car needed was a new owner. Steal of the century.
Two speedometers.
Look more carefully.
@@Pr3ct oh so is one a tachometer?
still the best corvette c2 .allways will light wt small block no side pipes c 3 thank you calif smog pump /killed those catalytic converters unleaded gas , c4 yuck c5 -8 pick one if I had to pick one ?
Whole Foods has fried chicken???
I was wondering the same thing.
Oh my God! Automatic?
Bummer!
Almost too valuable to take out into traffic.
💦😩
1964 the least desirable of the C2 Vettes. No split window of 1963 and no disc brakes starting in 1965.
Very futuristic looking compared to the hunk of junk looking cars today. People have lost their sense of wonder and appreciation for the art of design and engineering. SUV's built like tanks, so mommy can go shopping with baby and not fear being hit. Manufacturers today cater to crap!
A really cool car but the color is a tragedy.
Hmm...prefer the 1958 corvette.
