You absolute diamond.
Took me a sodding half hour to get it back in and my hands look like I've had a fight with a tomcat thanks to all the sharp pressed metal around it but got it done.
You absolute diamond.
No problem, Console.
Al can I just say a HUGE thank you . We were experiencing a problem with our gas fire and before calling out an engineer I searched You tube and found your video . We did as you suggested and have changed the battery .The fire now works , Thanks again .
Great to hear!
Thanks Al! I really appreciate the helpful video and advice.
Taylor Monroe No problem Taylor, thanks for looking. Al.
Thank you for this video, it saved us calling out a gas fitter. our battery was in a small cylinder on the right hand side.
No problem Maureen.

josh mcwilliam Thanks josh . Al.
Absolute genius, worked for us on our NuFlame fireplace. Thank you very much.
You're welcome!
Really appreciate your help on this, thought it was electric ignition. Same fire type as in the video. Will haveto replace the battery and see if this remedies this. 👍🏼
It will Chris.
Oh my god unbelievable!! Thank you for this video I have the same problem I was going to call British Gas next week - cheers Charlie
No problem
Thanks Al, that saved me a call out and made my wife happy on a cold winter day. ❄️😁
Excellent!
Thankyou our battery was dead ! Replaced and working fine,I just need to cancel the call out now 👍
No problem.
Just fixed mine, so proud of myself, just needed a clean and a nudge. 👍🏾
That`s great.
What an absolute shining star you are sir. Thank you.
No problem Nigel.
He is a star.. we had problem with an old tap on our sink… he showed correct tools to use to undo it from under the counter ❤ he’s amazing
@@zurgitbanzal7913 I very much agree.
We have the older type you talked about Derek it cost us £100.00 to have the igniter replaced. It still don't light sometimes, as we are getting older we are finding it hard to stay on the floor to try to get it to light Grrr
This worked. Thank you so much! I was so worried about repair bills.
Time to "repair" fireplace= 20 minutes.
Cost=£1.20 battery.
Our square battery exploded into smithereens unexpectedly with a loud bang in the midst of winter!
It was a battery made from China which came with the original installation 8 years ago.
You could say we did well with 8 years but considering we only use the ignition once a week in winter, I would say it's medium life expectancy.
Also, we paid £2000 for a brand new installation made of granite and marble and I expected quality batteries to match,
The Chinese battery posed a risk to our family. The guard at the bottom prevented the pieces flying out.
PS Our battery connection was much more accessible than yours but the connectors didn't look obvious
Pleased you sorted it ok. Great u-tube name by the way.
@@dereton33 thanks!
Thanks for the 'insight' Al.
1954BJohn No problem John, thanks for watching, it is much appreciated. Al.
Thanks a lot. You saved my time and money.
You are welcome!
Thank you for this. Also, I have to say, that's the first time I've seen a Polaroid battery. I don't think we have them in the states.
Yeh will still have them here.
Hello! Thanks for the video. Was hoping you could help. I have a flavel caress HE fire. Similar to this. It has a slider control. The problem is when we switch it on the gas fire just stays on one level. Sliding it up or down will not decrease or increase the flame. I was wondering if you have ever come across this and what the solution might be..? Thanks in advance for any reply!
More than likely the gas valve or the slide actuator.
Really appreciated
Very helpful thanks
Good one, Al. It makes you wonder if they deliberately put the battery in an awkward position. They might want to sell you a new fire.
johnnybrew1 Yes I have had some one tell me that they were charged a hundred pounds to get the igniter going. They never realised he had just changed a battery.
Brilliant thank you, I can't find mine, have you got any idea please , It's old back bermuda fire, Many thanks
It will be tucked under the flap.
If you were a super hero you'd be MR FANTASTIC- you're the best
Ha ha thanks. I'm not that good really.
Great product for the price. Pumps out a nice amount of heat
It sure is!
my gas fire has 3 radiants, but, the middle one doesn't glow half as bright as the outside ones... i've given it a thorough clean out... any idea what i can do with this middle, duller, radiant ... The center radiant lights first, followed by the outer 2... heard you on the jeremy vine show... grrrreat!
Hi Graham try cleaning the gas jet behind the radiant.
Just fixed mine, wasn’t a battery version, just needed a good hoovering out because the fake coals start to disintegrate and leave particles near the burner and ignition device, ok now and running like a good un’ 👍
Great.
Very helpful... cheers
No problem 👍
Thank you Kind sir ❤
You are very welcome
We have a Valor Dream, and it has a 9v battery like yours, but in a different position. It would not ignite, so I changed the battery
observing correct polarity, but it still won't spark, and ignite the fire. We are currently waiting for a guy to come and look at
it, but these Valor fires, from past experience a garbage. I even rang their service number on the manual, only to be told
the number was now out of service. Any suggestions?
Will need a new spark igniter.
The guy we had out today told us the fire was all sooted up and after a smoke test, he told us the chimney needed a sweep out. So, we are going to need a chimney sweep, to let the smoke out properly. He reckons there may be a bird nesting up there, I'm just thinking about all the mess it is going to cause. HELP.
Do not worry there is hardly any mess these days.
You are right, the two guys who came out, did a really good job. And like you say, they left no mess behind. Cheers.
If the fire still won't light after replacing the battery does that mean the igniter needs replacing?
Thanks ☺
Yes.
Sometimes. Could be the microswitch or spark generator or even some soot sat on the oxypilot assembly, and that's only of it's a ignition fault and not a gas related problem.
our gas fire is called Valor and it's lit with a clunky, almost mechanical feeling button that you press down on, that causes a spark?
i think? that's what it feels like and sounds like..
but the button which is on top of the fire and you press down, has stuck down..
been like it for a while, can't use the fire..
it's happened in the past but popped back up after a bit, but not this time, it's stuck down..
any ideas?? 🙂
The main gas valve is jammed or broken. As it is gas you are not allowed to touch it. A gas safe engineer is the only person who can.
@@dereton33 thankyou very much..
Fantastic
Thank you so much 😀
I have battery igniter but mines a AA battery 1.5V. was working a month ago but due to the waqrm weather not used it in a bit. went to ignite it but had no "click click" changed the battery for a new one but still wont ignite no "click".. what should i try next??
Clean the igniter contacts.
I've found the battery holder. There are leads going out the back of this to various parts of the fire. I've cleaned the contacts in the battery box, which/ where are the other contacts I should clean? Most fires seem to have a 9v battery mines just 1.5v. Seems low to make a spark!!
Hi I’ve changed the batter on my fire but the problem is on the button when you slide it down… it’s flexing so it’s not clicking do I need an engineer?
Yes .
@@dereton33 engineer said that the valve is seizing which is causing flexing, cost £220 total for parts n labour … didn’t think it’d be that much
Than you .
No problem.
So infuriating jen I know. Al and Jan.
No battery in ours. It runs off the mains. Damn!
Ade Nicholson sane :(
Mine won't turn off any ideas how to turn it off
Push the gas knob on the boiler in then turn if not you can always turn the valve on the pipe.
I put new battery in but still no click fire will not light
Broken igniter then.
Heatilator fire place
My 10 month old valor no longer clicks when we try to put it on.
The igniter is gone.
@@dereton33 many thanks
I almost had the gas man come out
