Pouse, I've watched many many of your videos, and I have commented once before. I know some people complain about it not being 'professional', but I have to say you have helped me no end! I'm currently in the middle of major renovations and need to save money where I can. You videos are amazingly helpful, and I have used them time and again. I am midway through extending an renovating a shower room into a Bathroom and you've helped me massively. (I'll happily share before and after photos with you once completed). Thanks so much for helping DIY-ers!!!
Thanks for the feedback 👍. The title was a bit tongue in cheek as I did say 'how to...or not!' As you say the result is fine, my method on that day a bit chaotic yes, a bit slow yes, but this is real DIY! Thanks for watching.
I am about to do some plaster boarding for the first time in my life.... dreading it, but this vid has at least summed it up quick and given me a clear idea of the deal without fafing too much about technical stuff... 👍🏻 hell, I'm subscribing, I have 2 months to do sh*t load of work in my house and all of it is new to me... I'm shi**ing myself, I need this channel!
Best of luck with it. My advice just start small. Practice new stuff on small bits and stick at it. Practice makes perfect...or in my case just chaos!! Thanks for watching.
Mixing it too think then adding water to it speeds up the drying time, doesn’t matter for that small job, also that painted wall might not have a good key for the adhesive, you should chips some plaster off with a hammer for a good key
Thanks for the video, going to have to do a bit of this myself. Couldn’t get a plasterer to do the job. Had 12 plasterers turn me down or never got back to me. Two others actually came to size the job up, one was dodgy as hell and I wouldn’t let him in the house again. The other was an enthusiastic but very young chap who initially took the job and then keeps letting me down. Job needs doing by Tuesday, I’ve been messed around for weeks so having to do it myself. Screw the plasterers I say 😉
Question for you today! I'm doing a bathroom refurb. Removing 2 layers of tiles. Dot and dab moisture board all round. What I want to know is.... I will pva the boards and paint as only tiling around the bath. The two window recesses I want a nice beaded edge...do you know of any product out there suitable?
Hi Pouse thank you for all your videos, truly helpful. Is there a chance that you would make a tutorial how to prep a wall for plastering, how to get the old plaster off to show how the wall should look like before re-plastering? Thank you
I've actually filmed some footage on prepping with bonding plaster, coming soon! You pretty much need the wall flat. It doesn't have to be super smooth. I like to use a floor scraper on rough walls, then fill any deep holes with bonding plaster. 2 coats of pva, scrim tape over any joints or cracks and multifinish plaster over the top for final skim. Hope that helps!
@@POUSEaroundtheHOUSE Hi, Pouse, definitely that helps a lot. I already stripped the wall and some parts seems really damaged, so i am a little stuck not knowing the degree of the damage your video will really gimme some clues. Thank you very much for the time and the tutorial, greatly appreciated. Regards
@@POUSEaroundtheHOUSE Ah mate I do a lot of open water swimming in rivers, dont tell us any horror stories! Your DIY talent is spot on, I was trying to work out which construction trade you came from
"professional" plasterers have to be up there with the biggest chips on their shoulders when it comes to non professionals doing plastering. So much negativity from them
It's recommended to also use the odd 'mechanical fix' or screws but the dot and dab alone I'd usually fine. If you have masonry wall you will need to either drill and use wall plugs for screws, or masonry screws. I only used srews as I had stud timber at top that wasn't dot and dabbed. Sorry for the late reply!!
Ian! How are you doing? I was convinced I saw you the other day, pulled the window down for a chat.....it wasn't! It was a delivery driver looking at me funny. Hope you're well and you never know, we might frequent a place of work again!

Wow indeed, a job done well without a plasterer. Nothing wrong with the video. Sure plasterers won’t be happy with DIY jobs being taught to the public, but there will always be jobs for good plasterers as some people value their time more than others. Plasterers need to understand board and skim will eventually become DIY, it’s not hard and can be learnt in a day or two. Float and set is another story.

Hello!
Why would you plaster over the plasterboard? Just tape, fill and sand and paint
Why would do that? Tape, fill and sand gives a sub-standard finish. Plastering is much quicker
