    This is the newest "real world" electric scooter on the market today that is capable of motorway/highway speeds and offers some high tech tools as well to help you get from A to B in a way that nothing else can that's on the market today.
    As I say in the video, BMW to me has always been leading the electric movement since the launch of the Evolution back in 2013...That was a great scooter and way ahead of its time - in fact, it is still ahead of its time today!! and proved to be a reliable scooter to get around on.

    I do think it looks very cool, very futuristic. People often go on about the range of electric vehicles, but forget that the technology is in its infancy and if they were to go back to the beginning of the internal combustion engine the electric is waaay ahead in a shorter time frame.

    I was one of those that was all about louder aftermarket exhausts but as I've got older I prefer a quieter bike. I rode the Zero SR/F a few years ago and was blown away by the torque and lack of engine noise. There is a long way to go before they become the norm due to price, low range and long charge times/lack of charge stations.
    This scooter looks superb though, and love the reverse feature, I hate having to paddle backwards with my feet.

    • @exeterrider
      @exeterrider  2 года назад +2

      I was also blown away by the SRF. Riding electric for me is a wonderful experience. No vibes, just the wind noise, smooth and fast. Its not until people experience it that they understand . Great to know you are pretty much on the same page as me with this one......well at least somebody is.lol Thanks

      @@exeterrider Absolutely on the same page, whether we like it or not all vehicles will be electric and that may "frighten" many petrol heads but it's still a motorbike, only propelled in a different way. I love riding the country back lanes in the black mountains where I live, so this bike would be ideal I reckon, being able to hear the sounds of the country aswell as the tractors coming round the blind bends! The noise on my bike is deafening, but is my only way of covering a decent distance in a few hours. This scooter would be a great compromise for me between my motorbike and my electric bike. It's doubtful I'd ever get it past the household treasurer (aka Ayatollah) though.

    I think electric is ok I just like being on two wheels. However, the cost and range for me are still the big barrier. You talk about it as a mode of transport back and forward short distances. When I originally took up biking back in the 70’s it was mainly a commuter but that’s not the case now in fact many people just use a bike for leisure. I ride mainly two up and even the day trips around my area are more than 100 miles. I’d need to find a charger then hang around for a considerable length of time hours in fact to recharge to complete the journey and that’s if I did in fact find a charger that worked in my rural area. I usually tour as well and if I go to the ferry at Plymouth it’s over 500 miles away so think how long that would take, need a couple of days just to get out of the UK. I might consider an electric bike in future looking to the Super Soco CT3 that has a range over 100 miles and will do 75mph but that would only be as an additional bike for local journeys and only because it’s predicted to be under £5000 not bad for a maxi scooter but as it’s not hit the market yet just speculation at the moment.

    • @exeterrider
      @exeterrider  2 года назад

      Exactly mate, It wouldn't suit you at all. I don't do the mileage you do so it would work fine for me. But it will suit some and not many others I think for that reason. : )

    Seems quite nice, but at 11-14k GBP I think it's way too expensive. The Super Soco CPX was less than half that and could do a similar range and reach 70mph, with a removable battery meaning you could charge it without needing to run a cable to the bike (e.g.. if living in a block of flats).
    I like the looks of it and would quite happily ride one, but someone else would have to pay the asking price 🤣

    Very nicely reviewed. I think some of pushback on electrical vehicles is regulations are pushing the vehicles instead being market driven. When bureaucrats become involved they frequently foul things up and the little people pay the price.
    I believe there is support for green energy and transportation. My worry is blowing up the ICE bridge before that new green bridge is built to support the need. Wishing it to be true with arbitrary dates not supported by plans, funding or execution is a frequent source of pain our legislation frequently inflicts on us.
    I'm not against or especially for electric vehicles but I haven't seen a plan to convince me there is a road to the future, just unsupported mandates. I'm very skeptical.

For those of us yet to win the lottery however, that's the price of two Honda Forza 350's, and that is silly money. It lost 16% battery in 7mi, which would gave you a range of 44mi, 70km. I would at least want 100km with normal usage which isn't already very much. Of course I understand this was partly on the high-way but even then the speed was around 100km/h. I like the long-range e-volution better. Too bad they didn't upgrade that bike.

    Thanks for the excellent video review ER. I use a motorcycle for pleasure and touring, so will always exceed 80 miles / day. It may well be cheap to run on electric, but I dread to think how much a replacement battery would cost - several thousand, I suspect. IMO it's a travesty that all bikers will be forced to buy electric after 2035.

    • @exeterrider
      @exeterrider  2 года назад +1

      Thanks mate, if the C evolution is anything to go by that they bought out in 2013 then needing a new battery should never come into it unless you keep the bike for decades. The Evo owner youtuber had his 5 year service and and it was still at 60%. Hopefully this will be the same.

    Like it... But starting at £11,500 its not cheap transport is it .. iam all for electric power but it so dam expensive. You could buy yourself a cheap little 1000 cc car for well under half the cost of this .. until they get the cost down it aint going to be a revolution!

      Yeap I agree but the way bike prices are these days , 11k will be the norm I think. Yes for this to really take off and get the market to foundation level, as you say the cost needs to come down,that being said, good on BMW for putting themselfs out there now and not holding the tide back like many others!

  • @michaelsambrook7934

    UK bans petrol and diesel vehicles 2030. But you could import one until 2035. Then we enter the second hand market. Look at the age of vehicles now still performing well. The pressure will come as petrol stations start to close and repairing and spares become less available. But look at the advances in battery design in the last 10 years. By 2032, a bike could be the same weight and double the range along with lower prices. People will naturally transition.

    Actually when cars first became a thing electric ones were as common as steam or petrol driven ones. Not the future. Just not common. To be honest I think we will still be using petrol or diesel based vehicles decades from now. Government aspirations and reality rarely coincide. We don't have the generation capacity for one thing. And for another batteries are absolutely foul and aren't very green. The only growth area I see is for electric scooters.

    • @exeterrider
      @exeterrider  2 года назад +2

      I see where your coming from there. Yes I think it will reach a point where they may have a extension to the switch over or tax the hell out of fossil wagons.....or both probably. Batteries are not green agreed but they are recyclable which is key , compared to constant burning of fossils and it opens up a massive wealth of new industry's.

    Wouldn’t touch one with a barge pole, typical BMW, ridiculously overpriced scooter !
    A great bike for people with more money than sense. Wait a while and the Chinese brands will have something just as good for half the price It’s also pig ugly. I’m sure GS riders will be falling over themselves to buy one for their daily commute though.
    This is not a transport solution for the people, it’s a cash grab by BMW.
    Yes, it might tick all of the boxes for the daily commute but at that price ????
    I have nothing against electric scooters, for many people they are the answer, but no need to spend this amount of money for a vehicle to get you to work and back. No doubt the city stockbrokers are having their platinum credit cards swiped at a BMW Motorrad dealership as I write this.
