Great work. Just a tip if nobody has mentioned it yet. You can put zip ties on your doors. Then you will know if someone has tampered with your pots. You can get different coloured ones so you know they are yours 👌
Matts, you should try tying the bait bag to the bottom of the pot. ChrisPFish had a video where we saw crab eating the bait from the outside of the trap in his underwater cam. If you tie it to the bottom where your 5lb weight is, it should ensure that no crab can eat the bait without first climbing in the cage.
@@FishermansLife still brotha you literally went from saying a lil bit of butter which was the main reason i watched then you just kept it so real and informative that me and all my team got hooked now you got a boat . nothing but respect from seattle wa and keep up all the great work and stay humble love your show . damn i miss a little bit of butter
You got me into ocean fishing and ever since it’s been my favorite type of fishing. I got a hoodie and it’s a lot more wind resistant than I thought it would be. Got to wear it on a charter this morning in 40* weather and rain and I wasn’t cold in the slightest plus the jigs produce big time 👍🏼
Dang man I love your videos so much and I have watched a ton of them. I love that you do everything solo and just enjoy the solitude and your surroundings and every minute of your adventures. You inspire me. Thanks for being you👍
I was thinking the same thing, a thick zip tie that won't be easily popped off. Do u think sea lions or seals are smart enough to pop the doors open some how to eat the bait? Maybe it's worth risking a cheap under water camera to see 😂
My thoughts exactly. We always use zip ties on those type of pots. They are notorious for popping open. It’s the safer route to go- you just snip them when you pull it up. Great catch by the way!
Hell yeah I caught my first salmon on my kayak at Pigeon Point last week! I hope to see you out there sometime I've fished with Die Hard fishing and all of them
I remember you saying the cage door is closed as you drove off to drop another pot. It is possible that someone could pick up and take your crab. It’s not a coincidence that a few of your pots were open. Perhaps next time, salmon fish around your crab pots. Like troll in square lines around your pots, and keep an eye out for boats coming around your pots. 🤷🏻♂️
I know they're oversaturated and people don't follow fishing rules but I'd love to see a pier video where you're just chillin' takin it easy and talking bout whatever. Kinda like a Fishing/Vlog mix especially with your choice of relaxing tunes.
Here's a handy trick on your winch. When you're undoing the wraps on the winch, if you pull the line straight up vs. unwind them, this works much faster and easier.
Always a pleasure to watch your show 👍 May I ask do you keep your boat in a marina or storage or your house ? I live in a town home, but cannot keep a boat here. So thinking of using storage yard .
We took tuna sandwiches out there for lunch. And we had 7 up soda in a ice cooler, bag of Fritos corn chips and fruits, corn on the cob. For some reason, if one of us got sea sick, we felt so much better after eating a lunch of these items. The cold 7 up really helps. Any lime soda works fine. Nice fish 🐟
I always kept the intestines and parts that I don't use for food for bait bags for my crab traps, freeze them in a container and use the brick in a bag
Buy a weird color zip tie and just tie your cages shut. If someone opens it you'll know. Not many people will have hot pink zip tie on their boats lol.
Seems like you might want to attach a float to your net. I feel like it’s only a matter of time before it ends up in the water. Also have you considered adding a kicker to your boat? I’m sure it would save you some money on gas and it’s good to have a backup if you’re going to be running out 20mi, just a thought.
I had a kicker but took it off when the gas line broke. I should put it back on to troll slower for halibut. About they net...if it falls in, well...I'll risk it. Will keep me sharp lol
Bro.. Just ran into your channel yesterday! Its pretty entertaining! Bro any suggestions? Im not really a fisherman but I'll be in North Carolina next month. Any tips on surf fishing ? Lol. Just noticed i was on the wrong phone
always a good day when you catch limits early 😁 I wonder if its because you were using da bigger buoy and easier for ppl to see and poach vs. your detergent buoys 🤔
Let's go I'm in the top ten comments!! Watching your videos gets me excited for the salmon in my area!! You always make your videos with us in mind I have yet to see anybody else who puts the effort you do and I commend you for it thank you so much!! And Tight Lines!!
the Tekota is a great reel, though IDK of a Shimano Reel that sucks…I haven’t found one yet. I eBay Calcuttas, Trinidads, Tekotas & TLDs of new and used varieties & have way too many. they make me happy when they’re loaded up in my rod holders and even happier when I hook, reel in & land fish.
also i cant wait to get out on lake superior guys are already getting out but my boats not ready yet lol ill have to try those cable baiters no one really uses bait here its mostly spoons or flasher and flies
I live in south Texas and have never gone salmon fishing but quick question.... I'm subscribed to you and the gang (as well as ChrisPfish) and when I see underwater footage of the anchovy/sardine it always looks like it's going crazy in a big circle. I see you guys bend the bait and check how it spins in the water before dropping it but the underwater footage never looks like this. Are we sure bending the bait is necessary? I don't plan to go salmon fishing in the near future, it was just an observation that had me wondering. Always looking forward to the next upload!
the bend makes it spin, but what youre probably seeing is a 360 flasher typically run 5-7' up the line that makes the whole leader behind it rotate a wide circle.
I’d recommend fastening the downrigger down when running. There’s a lot of vibration created and it could cause the screws to back themselves out or loose a nut (if bolts were used which I’d recommend) or potentially snap depending on the style and strength of the screws and how good you have it mounted whether you used a piece of wood for backing or had a solid object to screw into. On the downside if it’s mounted super securely be weary of snagging your downrigger ball as something has to give and break in that situation could be potentially dangerous/expensive. Tight lines my guy and quality knots
Snubbers help but yes a nice transom Scotty mount directly connected without the extensions would probably be safer but then you have to lean over the rail wich is potentially dangerous. would be ideal to use something that can be easily disconnected with the quick bolts from Scotty and installed after you get there. Permitting calm waters of course.
Are lobster caught the same was as crab? I've lived in KY my whole life, so only freshwater and hunting, never been able to do any saltwater fishing/trapping but I want to one day.
