      @albert fish.. no i believe slaughtering is killing and then they will be butchered.. although you can be put down in a painless way in a 'slaughterhouse, it would feel weird to call it a slaughterhouse i guess.. but i think we should at the very least have free roaming animals and not put them through suffering

      I think that’s because they see 2 rashers of bacon at breakfast as a small amount compared to a whole pork belly for example, but they don’t link it to no matter if it’s a whole pig or 1 slice of bacon that it’s still a life being taken and a detrimental impact on the planet and environment.

    • @ed.winters
      @ed.winters  8 лет назад +163

      Yeah it's bizarre, they obviously acknowledge that it's wrong to eat meat and try to justify their actions by saying they don't do it that much. Same as a rapist trying to justify rape by saying he only does it once a week. Total nonsensical BS. Also it's obviously a blatant lie and they likely don't restrict their meat consumption at all.

      @@ed.winters You're a fan of hypothetical questions,.. If one person is killing a chicken/cow/pig/any other animal, and another person is raping a human being and you can only stop one of these from happening, which would you choose? Is it "the same" or should there be more nuance to your morality and maybe a sense of perspective? Using terms like rape (as you do frequently) and the holocaust (as many vegan activists do) in direct comparison with the albeit very poor treatment of animals is a great way of making you look like a person who lacks objective reasoning. I'm not saying this as an attack, I'm just concerned that you seem to be unaware that there is a difference.

    • @PinupSarah
      @PinupSarah 4 года назад +27

      Daniel Fowler rape is defined as a forced sexual act against the persons will/ without a persons consent (using power, authority, physical force) which is what we do to animals by artificially inseminating them. We go further than this by then stealing their babies, exploiting them for the products of their reproductive systems, and slaughtering them. A holocaust is defined as slaughter on a mass scale, which given that we breed and slaughter over 56 billion land animals a year (not including trillions of sea life), and that equates to 150 million per day (which is estimated to be around the number of humans killed during all wars throughout history), a holocaust is most definitely what’s happening to animals. The are in fact, so victimised that even calling them victims, and using words such as rape and holocaust to describe what is happening to them is dismissed and ridiculed.

      Same here. I almost prefer the consistency of being ok with animal torture in general, than this compartmentalized craziness. People going outside to protest, or "travelling the world" to add a new rescued dog to their collection, while eating meat and dairy as usual.

      I symphatise with this woman. I used to be a bit like her as a vegetarian (I became vegetarian at 14, up until 23 when I made the switch to veganism). I could not comprehend what was wrong with eating eggs and with drinking milk and did not want to see the reality of these practises. Being confronted with the reality of it made me shut down; I didn't want to hear it. But, honestly, i think that she is on the right path and that she will get there eventually. Let's hope!

    • @lolly5453
      @lolly5453 4 года назад +5

      Nux River - Similar to you, I was vegetarian for many years, and kinda closed my eyes to the cruelty that goes on in the meat industry etc, it hurt to see/hear about it, and I felt that by not eating meat I was already doing my bit.
      I too believed dairy didn’t cause any real harm, couldn’t understand how it could. Cows GIVE us their milk, right?!
      But it’s only when you force yourself to see the reality of it you see you’re contributing to the suffering of so many animals. I tried to block it out, thinking it can’t be THAT bad, wondering how I’d survive as a vegan without cheese etc (🙄 I know, I’m ashamed of myself!) but after seeing footage from sources such as Ed, I couldn’t ignore the truth any longer - and haven’t touched (or wanted to) dairy since.
      As impossible as it seemed to me beforehand, I feel the best way to adopt a vegan diet is to just do it, try it, jump straight in - I think if more people did that they’d find its nowhere near as difficult as they think. Especially for vegetarians; I feel I probably had it really easy as I didn’t have to cut out all of the meat etc, and reading food packaging/labels was already a way of life for me! So not too big of a deal to go the full way, and happy in the knowledge my diet now matches up with my morals.
      I think “red t shirt” vegetarian lady in this video would be amazed at how easily she could go vegan, especially as she seems so dedicated to the cause too - I think that’ll be a huge motivator for her and will make it a breeze. I hope this conversation encouraged her to give it a shot!

      Yes !!! Every People I talk to say the exact same thing : "I eat meat very rarely, almost never".
      Right.
      But the statistics say the exact oposite: we have never eaten that much of animals products in our history...
      But yet everyone say the oposite, and I see that as a huge improvement : People are ashamed.
      They dont want to admit how huge there consommation of animals is...
      It's really rare those says to met someone who is really proud and happy to recognize that he/she is a meat eater.
      It's a good thing !!!
      Feeling ashamed is (maybe) the first step !!!
      After that comes the information, the understanding, the accetation and maybe... The change.
      We have to be optimistic, everything is changing.
      If we have asked those questions in the 60's to our grand parents, everybody would have been so proud and greatful for eating that much meet...

    So powerful! Just a bit of critique. The older lady was saying that she knows to an extent what animals on factory farms go though. A good thing to ask is "why do you eat it then?" In a non confrontational way. It gets people thinking and genuinely feeling guilty for what hey have done. It makes them more open to think when you ask open questions like that. And then based on their reasoning you can bash the stereotypical arguments such as protein. Sometimes people think and are silent and eventually say "I don't know" and it's like the gears finally start turning.

    this may be viewed as extreme but i wonder how some of these people( people against animal cruelty but continue to eat meat/eggs/dairy) would react if you asked them a question that sort of reflected their own logic back at them. I imagined asking the older woman "what if a group of people humanely slaughtered you? you felt no pain and knew not of it, they also let none of your body go to waste meaning they ate and used it all. They had the option of using plants for this, but instead they used you, because they felt that it was convenient and less work, and they didnt think they could do it with the plants, although they knew it was possible, they just lacked the effort and determination. How would you feel? because thats basically what is happening when most people choose to eat meat/eggs/dairy. animals DO NOT need to be murdered for your dietary needs, or material needs, you can use plants, especially if you live in the first world and have grocery stores that has enough plant foods for you to be healthy, and you have access to products that dont contain animal products or by products.

    Great job, Ed. Really great delivery. You've really inspired me to want to do some vegan activism in my community, Bentonville, Arkansas, U.S. It's the home of Wal-Mart and is it's becoming very progressive. A community that is both extremely conservative and also sprinkled with many forward-thinking personalities would make for a very interesting mixture of public responses. Plus, I just wanna make a difference in my community and I couldn't image a way more impactful! Keep doing what you do!

    I am vegan. But it's not just a question of eating dog meat. It is about the horrendous wicked treatment of these dogs before they eventually pass. We generally are not compassionate to any food-source animal. The methods of slaughter, and the lifestyles of these meat/milk/egg producing animals are not ideal and cause suffering. We have to address that yet. But the methods of slaughter of these Yulin dogs is the most horrendous I have ever encountered, and done deliberately for superstitious reasons.
    The only real solution is to completely shun any meat. Because even in the West, we have horrible methods of treatment and slaughter of all animals.

    I find your videos really hard to watch. The people you talk to know very well what goes on to acquire meat, dairy and eggs. It was only after I went vegan for health and environment reasons that I could own up to the fact I was contributing to such suffering every time I went to the grocery store. I see myself in your interviews and I feel guilty for not facing the truth sooner. Thank you for posting.

    It’s so weird how initially the older woman with the glasses was completely and utterly, no-questions-asked opposed to the slaughter of the dogs in Yulin in general, and then after you questioned her and did the comparison of putting the dogs down “humanely” if it would be acceptable, her opinion changed really quick. She essentially went from absolutely no dog slaughter of any kind, to thinking it would be acceptable if they were put down “humanely”. Sure...
    this is just crazy.

    I really like this interview because it shows 3 different people's perspectives: meat eater, vegetarian, and vegan. And you can clearly see the differences between all of their responses and you can see why the vegan argument is logical, sound and correct with no hypocrisy there, whereas the other two have hypocrisy in different degrees.

    Im puzzled as to why people, who already understand the concepts of speciesism & make the unequivocal connection between the violence on their plate and the exploitation/violence in the world at large - still hesitate to make a full transition to veganism. We have so many resources & such an incredible abundance of plant foods, not to mention the sheer amounts of choice of various mock meats & cheeses, which make it so easy to eat consciously & compassionately.
    As usual, thanks for your outreach work; you're so good at reaching people by being knowledgeable, humble & treating everyone with respect. 🌱🐾🌱

Glad you got people thinking about the other side of things but it is unfortunate of how blind some are that they don't see the wrong in just killing any living being for any reason. I mean, we should all already know we don't need meat. We humans aren't designed to eat meat. Yet we still continue defending it.
