Winner Palme d'Or at Cannes Film Festival 2017
Starring: Claes Bang, Elisabeth Moss, Dominic West & Terry Notary
Christian is the respected curator of a contemporary art museum, a divorced but devoted father of two who drives an electric car and supports good causes. His next show is “The Square”, an installation which invites passersby to altruism, reminding them of their role as responsible fellow human beings. But sometimes, it is difficult to live up to your own ideals: Christian’s foolish response to the theft of his phone drags him into shameful situations. Meanwhile, the museum's PR agency has created an unexpected campaign for ”The Square”. The response is overblown and sends Christian, as well as the museum, into an existential crisis.

thought the whole movie was gonna be about man jumping on tables but it was surprisingly more than that lol
Never heard of this film, but after watching Triangle of Sadness I'm definitely going to watch it.
@@nickkaol I've seen The Platform, very interesting and indeed similar themes on class as Traingle of Sadness. Haven't seen The Menu yet but the trailer looks spectacular and loved the main actress in all her other work I've seen :)
@@nickkaol Watched The Menu a few hours ago, it was ffing amazing!
@@KarlSnarks ending was trash
@@beachtroll4023 Personally I did like the open ending, but did not like the odd abruptness of it. IT had a sense of "huh, is the movie over?!?"
@@nickkaol The Menu was a big letdown for me. I probably had too high expectations going in. Triangle of Sadness, The Platform and The Square are all excellent, though.
This was such a fascinating film. It asks so many thought-provoking and challenging questions on human nature and the responsibilities of both individuals and societies.
It's also sharp intelligent satire on contemporary art as empty totem of 'modernity'.
damn we have an intellectual over here
such as? I'm not denying you, I just want to hear specifics. I agree it's a mind-rattler, and I'm somewhat unable to articulate myself. Curious about the thoughts of others
Ew this moview is a waste of time
Oooh you're so artsy and intellectual. Please say more (!) 🙄
Play (2011) was one of the most fascinating movies I've ever seen so I'm looking forward to watching this tonight
did you see it?
I am from Indian after watching the square movie I am the big fan of Ruben it very sensible screenplay and Stylish direction
i am from india where did you watch it ?
This trailer really is a disservice for the movie. Displays it like a fast paced thriller when in reality it's a slow slow burn human experience comedy drama?... I don't know hard to describe what watching the real film is like.
Trailers don't have to describe the movie, they're just usefull to attract people
Movie is so boring. Trust me I'm a fan of drama movies
@@laxman3383 lol. No one who genuinely likes dramas would describe a movie as “boring”. It’s a cop out word. Like “weird”. Use your big words if you want us to trust you!
@@kbd9765 what do you think, every drama movie is a hit?
@@laxman3383 nooo, that’s not what I’m saying. You can not enjoy something. But “boring”, what does that mean in a critical sense? What does that tell anyone about the film? It just says you weren’t interested in it. Coulda been cos you were on your phone or it coulda been cos it was too dry and cerebral to keep you hooked. See what I mean? Boring. It’s a throwaway word that doesn’t tell anyone anything about the work :)
Essentially a film about karma and the importance of being a good person and being aware, empathetic and respectful of others over your career and ego. Enjoyable but needed more editing in final third.
I think it is about the "social contract" and trust among community members; about living under an Estate whose rol is to protect its citizens and whose citizens must abide the law and compromise in its obligations to his fellow citizens. The contradiction of this ideal is what constittues barbarie. It is too a reflexion about the relaxation of traditional swedish values, and the new emergint ones.. also an exploration of the capacity of art to examine society...
bullshit, it have nothing to do with karma, karma is a facking belief, this movie is not about beliefs
At what point did karma come into the story? Strong disagree.
Nothing to do with Karma.
Like the other answers, I disagree, it's not about karma. And in real life, being a good person does not add to your karma, giving money to someone on the street for example might simply be a scam, in which case your donation is completely useless for the good of humanity ^^'
This movie is more realistic and I'm pretty sure we have some examples of someone trying to be nice and being thrown back his being nice in the face (actually, it's even the premise of the movie, when the main character gets robbed after helping someone).
This movie blew my mind. I was laughing outloud one minute and yelling at the guy the next minute -- "Just freakin go apologize, dammit!" And "why don't you stand by your decisions, dammit!"
And the dining room performance scene, I went from laughing and gasping in an amused way to feeling totally scared and horrified (there should be a trigger warning for people with PTSD for that scene).
It's the measure of a good movie when you keep thinking about it once it's over, and ask yourself questions about what YOU would do in the different situations.
It's also a wonderful spoof of Swedish culture (let's bring a crying baby to work and act like it's not bothering other people, and let's keep an interview going with someone with tourette's yelling expletives because, after all, as Swedes we pride ourselves on being respectful and inclusive no matter what).
And the condom scene.
And then there's the whole pot of worms around the people sleeping on sidewalks and begging for money.
And the perennial question -- is it art?
It's a really complicated movie (I'm not sure I'd call this a comedy), without being preachy, supremely well acted and you never know where it's going next.
Part of me wants to watch it again and part of me says, "Oh no, once was enough, thank you."
oh I agree with most of what you're saying. But it's DEFINITELY comedy
Uhhhhhhh, thanks for writing this. Have a good day.
A “trigger warning”…..? lol You really need to get a grip.
@@mummyjohnthe Tourette’s guy was the only funny scene. By far the worst movie I’ve ever seen 😖😖
@@jmag579 Lol that's astonishing. I thought it was a hilarious send up of the high art world. Definitely not my favourite, but very far from the worst.
This looks exhausting.
Why does this have such a strong vibe to Leos Carax's Holy Motors?
I swear the imagery and ambient is essentially the same... There's even a chimp.
ravenscaresAL exactly what I thought.

can anybody tell me..wtf ...i just watched..completely blown away
This movie screams zizek philosophy
*I got this movie after watching a piece on Terry Notary, didn't even knew who else was except for Terry and Dominic, it seems fun*
The Argentinian artist Lola Arias did not give her consent to have her name associated with the artwork that is used in the film. Apparently the director misled her and used her name without permission and without telling her. She only found out when the film premiered at Cannes. She is now suing Ruben Östlund
Interesting, thanks for the tid bit
She's lying, according to Östlund. He says there are footage of her in scenes utlimately not used in the film with her talking about the character in the film with her own name - so no matter what she was involved in the making of the film. And if that's so, then she has become part of the film, part of the artistic piece that the film is trying to portray, of the fragile ego of the artist. No matter who of them are correct in the opinion of a court, this has brought a lot to the film as a piece of art. It's amazing.
@@writeordie5452 If what you say is true ( and I am not doubting) this just adds to the brilliant satire that the director was illuminating.
@@rezaantoszewska612 exactly that is true meta genius right there
Can't wait for the triangle of sadness!
If you're confused at the end of The Triangle, it all gets resolved and makes sense in The Full Cirle.
check out the reboot-the parallelogram of ambivalence
It just won the Palm!
That condom scene was hilarious.
@S Raj What scene can you tell me about it

This is in the universe of Yorgos Lanthimos but in a different way. I guess I am referring to the awkwardness of the characters that mock your usual conveying of a message. They are shadowing the "Automaton" feel of the Yorgos universe.
does anyone else keep gettings ads of that one scene from this movie?😭😭😭
Very interesting movie, with all kinds of unanswered questions.
We are still animals.
POV- You're here after seeing Dracula and needed another Claes Bang fix.
so... whats this movie about?
Most hilariouse trailer I ever seen.😂 What a cool sense of humour🤭 under effects of anger.🤬
I loved this so many great scenes!!!
Claes Bang does not disappoint!!!
He’s he’s funny and sexy!!!
What does sexy mean when a girl says it..?
Elisabeth Moss is the most beautiful woman in the world.
It's missing Justice...
A really good film. I wasn't impressed with the director's previous film at all and when this started I wasn't quite getting it but then it won me over.

I'd sit and watch a billboard all day it was just a big picture of Claes Bang! Yes, pathetic I know Lol !!!
Just a thought.... couldn't we have a Danish "Bond" next?
have you all seen Triangle of Sadness by now (palme d'Or 2nd win for him) ! European film of the year- this directors next film ..
My gosh this movie was at least 1 hour too long. Someone call an editor.
I know this is a bad question to ask but can the dinner scene be skipped if it is so triggering? will the movie still make sense?
yes, the movie will make perfect sense it has nothing to do with the story and it's only there to showcase intensity in acting, there will be no need to watch it if someone found it upsetting.
movies just get fucking weirder and weirder
So we've had a movie called The Circle, and now we have The Square. I guess The Triangle or The Pentagon is next? Or perhaps a surreal MMA documentary called The Octagon? Or something deeper and sublime and all-encompassing like The Shape?
we already have THe cube

He has a new movie called “triangle of sadness”. It’s a must watch!! My favorite movie of 2022
Too bad the trailer is better than the film.
I love how one critic said this is "Madly ambitious" then it shows Claes Bang lazily lying on a couch.
I want to see this now
:42 is that not the Apple store in Chicago? Lol
no
Movie was great , not everyone cup of tea as it's very slow paced but the messages conveyed are clever and deep. The ending was a bit too shallow in my opinion. Since the movie evolves around the concept of societal hierarchy through the " square " presented throughout the movie , it would have make sense to end it on that symbolism in someway
What happened to the Justice song that was in the original trailer?
What is the background song in the beginning?

Does *anyone* know what the main song playing in this trailer is? The house track that starts just after the monkey man slaps the glass? I love it, but it doesn't seem to be on the actual soundtrack (tbh, I'm not a fan of most of those tunes, but this one has a solid groove to it).

If she was really an art gallery manager she would have answered that question about her handbag very quickly. She would have said "no, because in order to be exhibited in a museum art is heavily vetted. It has to acquire accreditation from academics and critics. I would have to be able to explain what my bag represented, what it communicated, and why my way of showing that is unique."
And because she didn't say that, is the reason why this movie is so damn good!
i guess the banana with duct tape was also heavily vetted beforehand
Because she is a journalist in the movie.
Nope

Interesting movie, essentially an "arthouse movie" about 21st century existentialism and our modern anxieties. Some people will find it boring, others intriguing. Just don´t think it will be some sort of hollywood action/thriller flick.. I think they intentionally made the trailer fast paced just to take the pi**. 6.5 dead rabbits out of 10.
