Rest in Peace to one of the great offensive innovators and personalities in college football. Saturday’s won’t be the same without Coach Leach. As an Ole Miss fan, I’m glad he went out a winner.
Mike Leach, even for the less football-knowing like me, was a legend, dude knew how to connect with players and the public and translate what he knew about the gam (a ton!) to people who don't get it as well. It feels like Norm Macdonald all over again
@@boon7244 that's true but since '64 we are pretty much tied up. Before that, from 1900-1960 texas had a much better program. But this is the same kind of argument about relevance of national and big 12 titles. Sure there was a time when texas was good, but our current generation (last 20 years) how many times has Texas won the big 12 or made the national title run? The big picture, is oklahoma has a better tenure as of late, and texas fans are still holding on to the 70s with only one run at a natty in '05. (Much respect to the 05 texas team and Vince Young) the sooners were looking great that year and I literally had an allergy tear as Vince played like a true NFL qb, and embarrassed my Sooners that year.
I remember throwing the remote after OU went up 17-0. I was wondering if the Horns had partied it up on the West End the night before. But after this revelation, it makes perfect sense. It was a brilliant move by Leach.
Navy did this in 1910. They noticed a man watching their practices before the Army game so they "dropped" a fake playbook near him and he didn't show up the rest of the week. Navy won that year 24-0 (this was when TDs were 4 points)
C Mac rabbit hole, man. Rabbit hole. I was intrigued about the touchdown rule, and since I’m an Army Grad, I wanted to know more about the fake playbook thing..
Yep. Guy was a lawyer turned college football coach. Sometimes it pays to have never played at that level. You aren’t afraid to buck the trends and traditions (like his wide OL splits that were pretty revolutionary).
@@DukeOSO94 But I mean they obviously would have known the defense would know what was coming so they could have simply made sure it didn't get anywhere near being caught or whatever
Didn't work exactly, but did. Hilarious because you know these guys were more focused on that script for a few drives. Too bad they didn't give them a few from it to keep them biting a little longer.
It is Leach who cannot be trusted.....and that is why is such a great coach and person. Like a magician, Leach will use your stupidity against you. Love him!
I'm a simple man, I see Mike Leach and my Sooners and I click Leach, with the right talent will become one of the best college coaches ever, he needs a national title as a head coach!!
they might've lost, but they were already supposed to lose terribly, so putting up 17 points with a scheme and then another 11 afterwards (38-28) is still pretty good.
It's been a while since you made this comment but that's not correct. They said after the score was already 17-0, texas outscored OU 38-11 the rest of the game, meaning the final score was 38-28
Mike Leach will be missed for his entertainment at the press conference one of a kind. Wish he could at be at a big program with his air raid. BTW that was not a touchdown he litter drop the ball.
shocked that Mike Leach came on after what ESPN and Texas Tech did, yeah he's suing Tech for slander but can't really do about ESPN since they broadcast the games
VollrathFGC Most tech fans are still pissed at the athletic director for doing that to leach including myself because he was a treasure for the football team
John Failphins It's also not like Texas broke a rule by taking it. OU left it on purpose because they WANTED Texas to have it. Texas never took it from Oklahoma without permission.
This is the most Mike Leach idea I’ve ever heard
.
first touchdown was a fumble
3:14
Ik he literally dropped it like three yards early
I saw that too he clearly dropped it
jonathan britten that’s what I was sayin
Absolutely! Good eye. There’s an old Jerry Rice TD out there that’s the same thing.
Rest in Peace to one of the great offensive innovators and personalities in college football. Saturday’s won’t be the same without Coach Leach. As an Ole Miss fan, I’m glad he went out a winner.

Texas was a lot better than OU in 1999..I remember how shocking it was that OU jumped out to a 17-0 lead! Typical Leach!
3:14 My guy did NOT break the plane.
Sup Austin love the vids keep it up
lmao you’re right Austin. That ball is on the 1
True
They gave him an extra yard for being SO wide open.
Lol wasn’t even close.
Watching this after Mike passed and seeing the genuine compliments about him is cool
Rest In Peace to a Master Strategist.
LOL, hopefully they called back that TD at 3:14
Mager Zakaria yea dropped that so early
He's in. The angle looks bad but he threw the ball back when he crosses the plane.
Hon Solo look at his shadow, he’s defiantly a yard short
Mager Zakaria I saw that lol
this was before instant replay was implemented...
3:14 he let go of the ball before he was in 👀
Yeah I even ran it back to go yeah he was like on the 3-yard line😅😅
Not gonna lie, I chuckled a bit when I realized that UT still won.
Since 99 the current record is OU-13 vs Texas-7. Not even mad.
@@mountainmanjim6366 Yeah, but Texas is up 62-47 overall. Good stuff.

Tw1 it was tied last year
Tw1 who just won GoOd MaN?
Mike leach is my favorite coach of all time that didn’t coach my favorite team
Parker Churchill are you a Maryland fan
Parker Churchill he coached my favorite team for awhile and beat Texas with that team
Jack Corcoran nope
martini stirred not telling but it was never coached by leach
martini stirred honestly😂😂 i’m an aggie fan but mike leach is one of my favorite coaches
3:15 wait... is that really a touchdown the ball didn’t make it to the endzone
Word
neither was the second one...at least by today's rules.
No way that was a TD he was a full yard from the end zone!
@@rodrickeubrown1859 nah he fumbled it out of bounds when he hit the ground, could be one of those" "didnt have possession" catches

I came here to count the 3:14 posts.
Mike Leach is the genius college football doesn’t deserve
Or, he’s the genius college football TOTALLY deserves.
I died inside when at 3:13 he drops the ball like dead weight BEFORE he crossed the goaline. 💀💀💀
Pretty sure that wasn't in either script. That fumble can be found in a lot of montages!
3:13 he absolutely threw that down before crossing the line.
yup
I remember throwing the remote after OU went up 17-0. I was wondering if the Horns had partied it up on the West End the night before. But after this revelation, it makes perfect sense. It was a brilliant move by Leach.
It’s stories like this one, and all the rest of them. We will miss Mike Leach.
3:14 so youre telling me this guy didnt drop the ball before he crossed the line.. I put it in slow mo and to me it fumbled!
The "touchdown" at 3:14 would have definitely been challenged and overturned as a fumble if it happened today

The Passionly Passionate Nightman TDS were worth 5 points in 1910 #goarmy
The Passionly Passionate Nightman and the score of the Army Navy game in 1910 was 3-0 for Navy. The score in 1890 was 24-0 Navy.

Should have made some of the plays match the fake script so that UT would keep believing its legitimacy
Yeah, but then they are sitting and waiting for it and that could back fire
Not worth it.
@@DukeOSO94 But I mean they obviously would have known the defense would know what was coming so they could have simply made sure it didn't get anywhere near being caught or whatever
yeah, for sure. especially since it took the Texas DC up to 17-0 to realize they weren't following the script.
This story was Hilarious we will miss Mike Tremendously...
3:15 holy shit he Desean Jacksonned before Desean Jacksonning was a thing
"Don't ever try to pick up my scripts or steal my signals because you might only win the game by 10 points instead of 38 points."

55-48. Texas sucks

Mike was the galaxy brain meme in human form.
Mike Leach, what a legend!!
This man is the legend most men think they are.
"We wanted to just see how honest Texas was"
That's a brilliant line, I like his humor.

Did Savage drop that ball at like the 2??
Rest in Peace to a Legend 🙏🕊
"...you dont know what may be in store for you" loses 38-28
You get the point, and he wasn’t wrong. Must be a part of the media, paraphrasing things out of context without the full quote. 😂
Mindless ix any horns fan is gonna think this you jack. Must be some dipshit sooner fan.
After they threw script away
Even withTexass being Heavily favored doesn't excuse them from being down 17-0

"Remember that one time when we did something that did absolutely nothing?"
Yeah it's obvious Antwon Savage dropped the ball before he got into the end zone but they didn't have instant replay back then boys and girls
Mike Leach is a National Treasure in America's greatest sport.

In all honesty that '99 matchup was crazy almost as nuts as the 2020 matchup.
He laid that ball down before crossing! I’ve never seen that one.

Mike Leach is the GOAT! One of my favorite coaches
3:12 no question about it he drops the ball before the end zone.
Damn that shit was really smart
Mike Leach is one of few coaches that never played the game himself - he's also an attorney
The lesson is that the underdog has to be sneaky...the favorite does not.
If you have the better team, play your game.
at one point you said the Texas team was down 17-0 and then you say they ended up winning 38-11. Clearly an error...

Apparently there considering putting the play script in the Oklahoma football museum
The savage touchdown Was not a TD He dropped the ball in the field of play
So the Grad assistant that found the fake playbook was Tom Herman?
At 3:13 he drops the ball BEFORE crossing the goal line.
You mean Red River Shootout
3:14 when you don’t usually score lol
As a Texas fan, that is using your brain to the fullest.

Now with what we're learning about Michigan, maybe TCU did the same thing last year.
Did he drop that ball before getting in on the first TD?
I wouldn’t trust anything that Mike Leach gives me. The guy is one heck of a sneaky tactician as football coach.

How many OU players are from Texas? What's going on with Texas recruiting staff?
