You guys should do a whole video of trying out unconventional baits for salmon under a bobber. Like gum balls, bacon, whole herring, whole squid…anything else that might work…
@NorthwestOpenSeason we cut it into small chunks or strips and use it a couple different ways. Pretty much however you would fish any other bait for steelhead. Plunking, bobber fishing and my personal favorite is to use it with a drift setup behind a small spin n glo. Use just squid or add a piece of it with roe like these guys are using their shrimp and tuna in the video. Sometimes all it takes is to have something different than everyone else.

You guys feel like the Low Pressure events can really affect the bite. My home river I’ve fished for days on end hammering the fish. And then the day a big front came in we seen fish rolling and moving throughout the whole day, but couldn’t have bought a bite. Was pretty amazing. This was steelhead fishing, and was a week of clear beautiful weather hammering the fish. But that low Came in and the Barometric pressure changed. Fish were not cooperating
When you are down on the coast and the guys are catching tuna, when you are at the cleaning station scrape the skin with a spoon and put the fat in a skane bag for winter fish. Or grab a bunch for crab bait. The fat works on almost everything .
