The word sleeper gives me nightmares. I drive an Lancer Evo X with an upgraded turbo, stage 3 tune and meth injection and a fucking 93 turbo civic walked me. BARE respects to sleepers, I'll put down my ego and hats off to those sleepers doing shit right. Gems to car culture.
I had a truck start to beat me in my impreza, he backed off but I would still hand a win to him, I wish he would of stopped and talked, it was really cool.
It’s because those civics weigh like 30 pounds😂😂😂. My brother has one that previously ran a 9.5 @150 but is now selling the shell and swapping it into a mid engine Toyota mr2
How many people actually want there to be a Sleepers 2? And if you want it... how amped would you be if I told you there's an official trailer coming out this month???
Because of you now no one will line up next to my 02 Regal LS it has a turbo and when I first built it people would race now they laugh and say no way.
So many people don't understand what the joy is of owning a sleeper. Its the joy of pissing off people in fast looking cars. Being able to be fast and not attract the attention of the police. Its about being able to put 3 of your friends in it with luggage and blast to Reno or Vegas. But the main part to me is hella cheap insurance vs some racy looking car.
I own one of these fast looking cars, a '81 Camaro Z28, and I know its not fast (not yet anyways) it came stock with 175hp, buts thats not why I bought the car. I love the look and I loved driving it, even through the summer in texas with no AC I still drove it, not everyone that drives a "fast looking car" are just egocentrics looking for attention.
ArabianKnight7771 yeah it does. It's also rev limited so the pulleys don't start flying off all the other accessories. That motors good for 10 k rpms but the rest can't take it. Great cars for their day.
I saw this video about 10 years back when I was 17...here we are 10 years later at age 27 and I just bought a 2004 impala SS, my first L67 3.8 sc car and I love it already, this video had a big part in getting this impala... always told myself one day when I find a good deal I'll buy an L67 equipped car...2500 bucks and 10 Years later here we are
The Impala SS is so sick. My good friend’s mom had the one with the big V8. I’m no car enthusiast so I’m not sure on the model and package. One time standing in front of my house I told him to light em up. The impala literally ripped the blacktop off part of the road. Years later it became a pot hole.😂
Same. Maybe the 49th time watching it. I'm looking for a Buick park Ave Ultra or a Regal GS right now actually. Or a LeSabre and a supercharger kit for it. Anything with the GM 3.8 L V8
Just cane back to this video to say this is one of the main reasons I love cars so much today. I remember watching this video when I was like 12 and it was just something else. If you ever see this man, thankyou.
Watched this as a kid forgot about it but had a 98 GS fall into my hands, it's fully built now. The joys of pulling on someone with that m90 whine is awesome. Rewatching this and I still got the same feeling as the first time. 😂 I'll gladly join you in finishing the sleepers 2 video
gotta' love all the dumb bros and jocks making the same ignorant comments. "my car's still faster" . "Buick doesn't get you laid" . "notice how he didn't race a Ferrari" great job totally missing the point. the Sleeper has nothing to do with any of that. he didn't say it was the fastest car on Earth. he routinely admitted how horrendously ugly it is. the point is that you can drive it all day long, all over town, and pull up to all kinds of other guys who think they're hot shit because they just bought a 'nice' sports car off the lot for 50 stacks and blow their doors with your cheap beater. it's just fun. it's just another subset of the car culture.
Mill Wurray a hyabusa hits over 200mph if you have the balls and the acceleration feels like your arms are getting ripped off , civics rock but you will never catch a busa with a civic
cmz8706 I totally agree, plus buick makes a tuff and reliable platform. I've got a 1998 buick LeSabre for my daily driver. I had a turbo kit and some off the shelf bolt ons added to it and it's now making 391whp and I've never had a problem with it.
12 years ago this video single handedly made in imprint on me. I wanted a sleeper so bad but I made next to no money. After a lot of hard work I am now the proud owner of a 2015 Ford Taurus SHO.
Respect man! My buddy and I would watch this over and over when he owned his Buick lesaber in highschool and would smoke mustang gts all day. Hope you have fun!
How do people who watch this video think that the cars I race are stock? I've listed all the mods in the description, and even made a follow up video to answer questions. Tell me more about how I'm bullying "stock" vortech supercharged Mustang GT's. :)
***** Please don't misunderstand me. I'm not trying to say mustangs are slow. They are excellent at going fast in a straight line and of all the stock cars mustangs make the best noise hands down, but when they try to turn physics can be a bitch. My original argument was that mustangs are too heavy and not very good at Thomas' idea of "performing". Which when you think about it why is braking, cornering and doughnuts his three main factors of performance? Just for the record most mustangs are excellent at doughnuts. Lighter cars are better at acceleration and cornering. What is the most commonly suped up mustang? A fox body. The lightest mustang body style. As an example of why more weight slows you down, I was able to outrun a convertible late model mustang in a gutted 91 crx with a bone stock motor. Yes a convertible is heavier than normal and it was probably the slowest model the guy could buy. Even though it had a lot more HP than me that doesn't change the fact that a mustang got outrun by a bone stock crx. yes my car is a POS, no I don't think its fast, its still fun to drive, especially on curvy roads. Sorry if my posts get a little long, its hard to sum up my rebuttal in one or two sentences. Its all in good spirit.
Dude, I was telling my friend a few months back about a video a guy made for his class about sleepers. I saw about 10 years ago. I can't believe I am watching it again! Big ups from Texas!
A lot of the comments here make me very sad for the future of car enthusiasm. People still don't grasp whp vs chp. For those of you that are in the know, stay strong!
hey i've been rewatching your vids for some time and it seems that alotta ppl want to be right and be "the expert" but with your commentaries they seem to help back up your logic i've just recently become drunk on the idea of having a sleeper but with all the cars i've seen seems like the regal is the only perfect car to me but i'm curious if you know of any other cars or if you have any other ideas on a good sleeper but then again they don't seem to make cars like this anymore its a bit saddening but i would like to hear alotta feedback from you i've got some basic knowledge of cars i'm no pro at this but i'm wanting to get a better understanding of what makes a car a seriously good sleeper everyone has an opinion i'm curious about yours.
nice job on the vid as u can see I was a gtp owner a few years ago also had shos about 25 mustangs and a 97 cobra and yeah the gtp was fun with bolt on from zzp but the trans in the gtp was kinda weak that was my only problem
It's fine, they'll just end up getting upset at themselves when losing to a car that "looks slow" and it's funny when they do get mad. Most of those guys are also the guys that hate on imports and call them ricers but with that light body, a turbo just makes it fast as hell. Maybe you should make a video on Ricers etc because most people don't even know what a ricer is and call everything from Asia a ricer. There is a huge difference between a ricer and a rice rocket. I'm getting off topic of the whole sleeper deal but yeah good video.
HipinyourHop ok your a dumb ass ... the point of a sleeper is to look stock but whoop custom cars ass's ....... a sleeper is not to customize its looks ... its to make it fast and make people go WTF when they get passed when there foots in the floor and its a sedan or granny car passing you .... yeah I agrea with a car is a work of art and yeah customize it how ever you feel ... so would I .... but not a sleeper ....
SARCknight Turbo subaru legacys. Get a front mount intercooler and put a scoopless hood on it. 05-09 243Crank horsepower factory. Can fit any part an sti can. (Some tweaking here and there) can be had for 14,000. Its a sedan much like a regal but, doesn't look quite as elderly.
GM's 3800 was always a potential beast from Hell. My first car was an 88 Toronado, with only 165 hp and 210 torque, but would light the front tires all day. With a supercharger, and mods on top, you've got a modern day Grand National.
You know what, I enjoyed seeing your progress over the years. Thanks. You spoke with confidence, not the cocky arrogance alot of gear heads have. Outstanding work young man.
I have a 2013 SHO. It doesn’t stand up to modern muscle cars like the 90’s SHO did, but can still beat most out there from a stop. All while sitting on massaging seats. One of the greatest stock sleepers ever made.
"What a piece of junk" "She'll make .5 past light speed. She's got a few special modifications I did myself. But, we're a little pressed for time, so if you'll get on board, we'll be on our way"
This video remind me of my '03 Impala. Most would think it was a grandpa car, but I liked it. And it took me by surprise when it shot me to 60 in just a few seconds. I had fun, shut down a few ricers getting onto the freeway, and generally enjoyed it(until the block got coolant in it).
+mutilator97 impala a grandpa car? How about driving around in a kia optima as your first car? When I first got it my friends made fun of me I never heard the end of it
I love sleepers. I used to have a beater 1989 SHO with a 75 shot kit. One of the most fun Cars I have ever owned. I am currently building a 1987 Cressida wagon with a 1988 Turbo Coupe motor, Bopart head, and an HX35 turbo. I can't wait to get this car on the road.
A sleeper is really beneficial when you want to drive a fast vehicle and you live in a community where car theft is common. If a burglar was to walk up to a sleeper vehicle they will walk away because they will assume the car has a low value and there is nothing worth stealing. Some of the major problems with sleepers is the resell value of the vehicle. Yes, it is a modified vehicle but most people do not go to a dealership or website and search for a "supercharged Regal." What will happen is that the engine will be worth more than the value of the car. Vehicles like the 4 door Regal models are meant for the daily, steady working people; not for street racers. I give more respect to Sleepers than Ricers since Ricers only focus on modifying the aesthetic features of a car but it is probably best just to be happy with what you drive and stop trying to challenge other people on the road. Public roads are not race tracks. I get really annoyed when other people try to pull up next to my Mustang GT and they start revving their motors to challenge me. I always yell at them and say something along the lines, "Hey! I am trying to drive home after a long day at college! There are kids on these roads. Do you really want to get them in an accident?" To be honest, sometimes I feel those people are trying to compensate for something. Monetary or other personal features if you get what I am saying.
Correct me if im wrong but cars that are unique are usually not stolen. Since if somebody steals a mustang cobra it would be more noticeable than a car like a buick regal since you dont see a cobra everyday but a common car like a buick would fly under the radar and not attract attention.
So what you are telling me is a car like a customized Ferrari Enzio has a less chance of being stolen than a Buick? Car thieves do not want to risk their lives and serve jail time to steal a cheap car because the costs will out weigh the benefits. What a thief will do is they will steal a car and either sell the car as whole or in parts to an overseas buyer.
dunkingkid7 Dude, that doesnt make any sense. It doesnt matter what kind of mustang it is, if someone steals your car the cops will be looking for a mustang. Doesnt matter if its a v6 or cobra they all look about the same, and 90% of people can't tell the difference anyways. Hell, i would rather steal the most expensive mustang on the market, cause you're just gonna blend into the sea of other mustangs on the road. Steal a Ferrari, and you're not exactly blending into anything.. except maybe your jail cell trying to hide from 'bubba'. And how many buick regals do you see on the road compared to mustangs? You'll probably find a buick regal for every cobra, if that.
Some of the most stolen cars are honda's and toyota's because they blend in better than a lambo. Like think about it if you steal a lambo more people are likely to see it unlike a camry which nobody would blink one eye at it. If your car is unique it is less likely to be stolen because it can be identified easier.
Keep holding on to the dream... Love what you did to the Regal. And just like Dominic Toretto once said. It does mater if you win by a mile or an inch. Winning is winning. Keep building those cars Bud.
I miss my SHO!!! I had a 94. A Yamaha 24 valve duel overhead cam V6...bright ass red!!!! I walked 5 mustangs and a iroc z camero in a 4 door sedan. Had a few people even ask me...."what's a SHO"
I had a 2001 Regal GS. Those cars are no joke if you modify them correctly. Same goes for the Pontiac Grand Prix GTP. Pulley, exhaust, headers, and you're be making some really good power. Only bad thing about those cars is they are front wheel drive.
no they have the Buick park ultra the Bonneville ssei and the gtp and a Buick Regal GS and a Buick Riviera Supercharged Coupe thought are all the 3800 taht ware supercharged 1996 or new has the series 2 motor and thats what u want alot of after market parts out the the s1 dont have no after market part and if u want to make any hp and tq nothing is really out there u have to use all junk yard part like headers u can build a exhaust but u cant tune it for shit and there super chargers arnt as good either compared to the m90
I had a buddy who modified his 03' GTP and it was INSANELY FAST compared to most sports cars of the time. I still remember the distinctly LOUD whine of the Supercharger. GREAT generation of sedans
Brett Stoneman he probaly never made a part 2 cause he realized everyone knew his video was bullshit. He even says in a comment cars had mods ect. Well hell my o2 ford taurus could kill an 04 mustang gt if i put a shit load of mods on it. This kid was an idiot
@@jamesruot4762 uh..... bruh.... a sleeper is a car that has a modified engine but still looks stock... a factory sleeper is a sleeper that is already fast from factory, but a sleeper is just another everyday car on the outside but the engine packs a bunch of horsepower ready to make sportscar owners day bad
In my opinion, this video would have been much better if you hadn't put such a negative spin on automotive enthusiasts. You don't need to offend people before you tell them you like sleepers.
He makes a good point though. Car enthusiasts are a little different today than they once were. Car enthusiast back in the day loved their car and what they could do with it. They talked smack, but it was all in good fun and at the end of the day they all could rely on each other. Now it is just about loud obnoxious my car is better than yours and you can suck a big one type mentality. I am sure there are still good enthusiast groups out there, but there are so many others that muck it up now.
1987slim But cars back then were even louder and more obnoxious and emitted noxious fumes/odors. The difference now is that we have more imports that have a different number of cylinders, thus making a different type of sound. People are polarized on whether they like this different sound coming from these imports, whether they are BMW V8/V10s or 4/6 cylinder engines. There's also a relatively new camp/generation with a "green" mentality. This means more conflict. I think it is more diverse now, and that is an improvement.
Do you mind sharing the mods you did that Buick I have a LeSabre would love to do the same thing to get it's non-supercharged but I don't have any info only 3800 what all I would have to do
yep those were the good ole racing days, the cobra mustang when the mustangs were that style and the ones before them,i had a 1996 s-10 and i was one of the first people in houston to have air bags then i installed a 96 vette LT1 in it with my 5 speed manual and i beat so many mustangs, camaro's,ss impala's you name it.i had a blast oh and not to mention the ricers.but now days people have insane horse power,so your gonna need a really bad ass sleeper, nice video man.brought back memories
AmanOU2be Bullshit, I got that moped nitro'd to hell with the body kit and a sweet wing. I laid so much rubber up my street I set chicks dresses on fire!
Awesome video! I love sleepers. I like to think my volvo s60r is a sleeper i always loveee the reaction people have when i race them and i keep up or win😂 its priceless.
How does one get 374whp out of an L67? If that boost gauge was accurate, it was only huffing about 14psi worth of boost, which is about double stock, but should only net around 300whp. And given that the L67 isn't intercooled, it would need either methanol injection or E85 (and therefore bigger injectors and other fuel system upgrades) to avoid detonation. I have a sneaking suspicion that there was a 100-shot of nitrous involved in achieving 374whp. Also, how's the torque steer with that thing? On a side note, I've long since wanted to put an L67 in a Fiero, but later my thoughts turned towards an LSx. However, if 370whp can be done cheaply and reliably with the L67, then there's little reason for the additional expense of the LSx. Well, except for the fact that V8s are just plain cooler than V6s. (No offense.. LOL)
thefleshrocket A few years ago, I saw a Fiero with a Northstar crammed into it. Was inside at a car show so didn't get to see it perform. Pretty cool though.
My buddy had a VR4 Galant that was a total sleeper. Just by looking at it he use to get laughed at because from the outside, all you would see is a 3 1/2 inch exhaust. But what people did not know is that his VR4 Galant was a high 10 second car.
I had some time off from work and decided to do a lil U-tube-in I know this is an older post but I wanted to add my 2 pennies, Im 55 and love carz of all types from massive Cubic inches to new tech turbo 4 with over 1hp/per CID. Its the love of the build and the heart that goes into it. The SHO, as well as the 3800 SC in the regal make for some fun BANG for the Buck, WAY TO GO. My 2001 GTP is my pride now with ZZP upgrades and her unsuspecting 4 doors, she is a true sleeper. SO Keep doin what your Doin .
Way to be you, A man after my own heart. Ive "built" many cars, always put 95% of time and money on making it fast, I outran all the pretty cars wherever I was. I had a couple novas, spray bombed both. Lol
I'm sorry but you can't call yourself a car enthusiasts, look by definition. A car enthusiasts loves all cars regardless of anything. Those guys love the way their cars look and sound and that is what's important to them, You making your car go fast is what's important to you.
Sorry, but I can't agree that a car enthusiast must love all cars regardless of anything. I am a car enthusiast, have built a few sleepers that were economical and a load of fun to drive, but I do not like Yugos, a whole bunch of Fiat's, early model Kia's and Hyundais (later years much better, I believe), etc, etc. That doesn't mean I'm not a car enthusiast. By your reasoning, the only guy who would be enthusiastic about women would be the one who likes all women, regardless. Sorry, does not compute.
CaptainDiegoAlatriste by saying your a "car" enthusiast you are by definition an enthusiast of all cars....it would have been better for him to just say he was a "sleeper" enthusiast because that's what he is. He obviously has a problem with people who can expense alot nicer car than what he can and you can here it in his condescending tone and negative aspect of others who love "loud" cars. From a professional standpoint he has an enormous lack of self confidence and shows a good amount of childish ego like the ones he races.
Joe Sylvester If one must be an enthusiast of all cars in order to be a car enthusiast, then there are literally hundreds of thousands of people who belong to car clubs for specific vehicles, e.g., Vettes, Crown Vics, whatever, who are not car enthusiasts, because their enthusiasm is primarily or exclusively for one brand or model of car. You appear to be splitting hairs in order to find a toehold for criticism of the video maker, whose attitude you clearly don't like. That is your right to your opinion, but taking a narrow definition of what a car enthusiast must be enthused about does not support your argument, it just reflects your opinion of the video maker. And just as people have a right to adopt a snobbish attitude because they can afford an expensive car, he has a right to adopt an attitude that he can get more out of a car with less investment, thus leaving him more money for other things of his choosing. When you analyze him as having an enormous lack of self confidence and that he shows a good amount of childish ego, you state that that you are saying that from a professional viewpoint. Out of curiosity, what profession are you qualified to practice, and how does that profession qualify you to judge his pride in his ability to wring more out of a car for less, in a manner contrary to majority opinions? And why wouldn't a person who either drives a car that most people can't afford, or who has an inflated idea about their car's performance, be just as guilty of such a lack of self confidence, such that they would also be exhibiting childish ego? Indeed, what evidence do you have that you yoursel are not guilty of the very same things, given that you object so strongly to what he has objectively accomplished, regardless of his attitude. He does take cheap affordable cars and does make them go a lot faster than a lot of more expensive cars. Where is the maturity in driving a more expensive car for appearances, that cannot perform the way someone tries to convince others it can. I am referring to people who put race tires, hood pins, 3" exhaust systems, performance parts decals, etc., all over their $60,000 car that turns 15's at the strip. What is your professional opinion of someone who rolls like that, if you qualify to give a professional opinion? Absent true verifiable professional qualifications for making such an evaluation, you appear as one who tries to lend false authority to what is no more or less than your opinion of this guy and his activities. And I'm sure that, unlike you, he loses zero sleep over what other people think of his "racing" program. His satisfaction is derived from the money he has saved matched against the numbers that flash on the board at the end of a run. Why do you care that he derives a childish satisfaction from kicking butt on people with expensive slow cars, if in fact it is childish satisfaction?
Joe Sylvester I am a car enthusiast. I do not love all cars regardless of anything. Therefore, I have just done what you said I cannot do, yet I did it. You may want to pass a new universal law that only people who love all cars regardless may call themselves car enthusiasts, but you have not done so and will not be able to do so. People who do not love all cars regardless, but who do like a lot of different cars, call themselves car enthusiasts as a shorthand, to indicate that they like at least one type of car, without qualifying which one it is, or they are indicating that they like several different types of cars, but not necessarily all cars. After all, it would be rather dysfunctional to have to specify that I am a "pre-1989 Ford Thunderbird/Ford Crown Vic (especially 92-97) enthusiast/Mercury Grand Marquis (especially 92-97)/early fifties Mercury and Ford/55 and 57 Chevy/Mk II and E Jag (especially 2+2)/58 Pontiac convertibles with a V8 and dual quad carbs/Mustangs from the sixties, the Boss 302, Fox bodies, ...." etc, etc... Nor do I want to have to specify the exceptions to the cars that I like. I am just a "car enthusiast" with likes and dislikes, some strong, some not so strong, but who does not like just one type of car, nor do I like all types of cars. Who are you to say that I can't call myself a car enthusiast? I am glad that there are people like you who have love for Yugos, Tatras, Skodas, and a whole host of other cars I find next to useless, but that doesn't make you more of a car enthusiast, or a better car enthusiast, or the only true car enthusiast. You can believe that if you want to, but you would be wrong, just like you could make left turns on red, but you'd be wrong. Obviously, this guy and his success with inexpensive fast cars has gotten under your skin, but trying to fault him for saying he is a car enthusiast comes off as just a petty attempt to discredit what he has accomplished. You may not like what he has accomplished, but it doesn't change the fact that he has accomplished it, and that he is a car enthusiast with preferences, one of them being to go fast without spending all his money doing so.
CaptainDiegoAlatriste well apparently someone has lost sleep and a tremendous loss of time for something so trivial. Maybe if they spent more time in a book than listening to others opinions they might know I little more. Guess he's not the only one with confidence issues. All statements made by me are facts and you can look them up on your own since you have so much free time to troll about. Oh and small amount of advice that backwards hats do not make your car go faster.....or make you look cool.
no ricers can be sleepers. Sleepers are cars that don't look fast but actually are. I've seen a pickup run an 8.4 1/4mile. That's a sleeper for you. He could also have very well been a ricer.
I just bougth a 2000 regal supercharged is there a chance u can share what u did to yours, i'm from México and i love this type of cars just want to make him run more, thanks.
I just purchased the 2002 Buick Regal less than 20,000 original miles brand new interior brand new tires looks like it's never really been driven. Has the supercharged and everything but mine's a little bit more special. Has a very rare interior, two-tone brown leather . I've only seen one like this one once before.
I'm going to look at an 03 Regal GS tomorrow. Older lady owned with 124K miles on the clock...I am very optimistic, but being cautious at the same time. Her asking price - $900 Could be a massive win... Will post a followup message on the outcome of my 3 hour trek to go see this thing.
I just bought a used 2010 Camry w/V6 XLE. It's the one without all the flashy rims and ground effects. One may not believe me but I took on a Dodge Challenger w/Hemi. I did not beat him but we were door to door. He did not pull away from me. I was shocked. I'm looking to change the intake, headers and exhaust. Unfortunately parts are expensive for this and also rare. Really want a supercharger or turbo but none are available.
Yeah he was definitely playing with him. I do that with slow cars too. I stay with them door to door and look at them like "what are you doing???" Hahahaha
I do this also to put things into perspective a sunfire floored it from a stop light and I was sitting at 2800 rpm in my 1999 trans am... I looked to see his friend pointing and laughing because he thought he was edging me out...I put my foot down... he stopped.
Yea, I thought he could have been playing around with me. Like a cat with it's prey? Traded the Camry in for a 2005 4Runner w/V8. Didn't want the payments.
yes turns at 60+ is racing for most of the world outside the U.S. But the people he's racing are in the U.S. on U.S. Highways. I see your point. but a car is only good for what you intend to race it for. Straight lines are what american muscle cars are good at. Tracks and tight turns are what foreign cars are good at. I personally like actual tracks to test a someone's skill with a car. straight lines are boring.
SUPERTIGERG3 Are you dumb? The engine in the Buick Regal is the 3800; this is the same engine both the Camaro and Firebird were shipped with unless you got the V8 option. This engine, however, was built up MORE than the engine in either of those domestic muscle cars for the luxury performance enthusiast, and supercharged straight from the factory. Plus, this car had a smoother suspension than any of the "American Muscle" cars did, so it could EASILY take turns most Camaros and Firebirds of the same year could never even dream of. Why don't you do your research before you talk shit bud. :)
I hope that you are still on here. I have a 2000 impala LS and an 03 Regal LS. My impala needs some work but my regal is hella quick. Both naturally aspirated 3800s. I wish I had a supercharged 3800 but I don’t. Are there any mods that you would recommend? Even though the supercharged version has slightly different core.
It was all about the Variable Intake Manifold, the Merc Cougars are the same way, my best friend told me that he actually saw a flame shoot out of my tail pipe when Duratec hit, I wouldnt say the car was fast, but it was quick, and this is thanks to Cogswell , he created The Variable Upper Intake Manifold with Long Lower Intake Manifold Ports.
Sorry if this was already asked. Too many comments to go through them all. Exactly what mods were done "for about the price of a wheel and tire package" to increase the power so much?
Noshow74 I would've expected it to at least be in the 380s. Regardless, a couple bolt ons to any of the SS should easily push it into the 400 range. Still pretty condescending in the video but it's understandable that it's a class project and he's explaining it to complete dumbasses basically.
The dyno measures wheel horse power, all the manufacturers put up engine horse powers. We measured for example on an older Mercedes SV12 480hp on the crank, then put the engine into the car, hocked it up to it's automatic transmission and then the diff, When put it to onto the Dyno we got 372hp on the wheels, we lost 20% due gear box and diff. A pro tuner ones told me that a loss between 8% to 13% is actually low. The 20% is actually quite normal. Also, FWD cars with +250hp are crap in corners and accelerating but when already going it doesn't really matter when doing flying starts. You have to mod heavy the gearbox, clutch, diff as well, then, you need also to mod the breaks. The power to weight ratio is also important; except you own a GTR, they throw the rule bock away and did build something worth calling Godzilla.
Orku5 I know what the dyno measures. I know what manufacturers advertise. 480 at the crank and 372 at the wheels is a ridiculous loss. My SRT8 charger makes 470 stock at the crank and puts up 417 SAE corrected at the wheels.
sleepers are awesome ! however besides the whole " trying to make your presence known " part, i like just having a car that i personally find attractive. To me besides those aspects of who wants to be louder and what not.. I like a decent exhaust note, personally i modify my car based on how i personally find it attractive. But i do think car enthusiasts that build sleepers should always be respected because they understand the true concept of performance over cosmetics.
True. I had two '80s Camaros, and while I liked them a lot, they weren't gonna win any races against anything not similarly hobbled. I wouldn't mind going back and resto-modding one with a modern mill...
LowAudio there's definitely nothing "iconic" about a iroc z Camaro. They were literally chopped to pieces because they were slow piles of shit. They are worth a bunch now because you can't find one that hasn't been changed totally. I love how you really try to hype up historical pieces of shit and complete junk in the age of dying muscle cars, then call them iconic. FFS a sleeper is great and all, but don't over hype the trash you raced
I was just talking to you on Facebook. The whole reason why, I built my 11 second probe GT sleeper, was because of this video all those years ago. I've also owned a Monte Carlo z34, a lumina z34, a 95 SHO, and currently in addition to the probe, have a turbo 99 Regal GS, because of you lol. You had a big impact on a lot of people Nick.
that's because your insecure and care about how others view you. a person with a sleeper is humble and not trying to prove anything to anybody because they are comfortable with themselves.
+nick duffy What a load of rubbish, i couldn't care less what people think of me or what i drive, & if you say people with sleeper have nothing to prove, then why have a fast car?, isn't that to prove you're faster than the next guy? lol
funbus I.know right... what he said didn't make sense at all. If we'd care about what people think about us we wouldn't drive the crazy Japanese stuff haha !
Shahaab Sherwani We honestly need more humility like this in the car community
LMAO I CACKLED AT "METH INJECTION"!!!!!
@@3shottzz k series swapped MR2's are bad ass
How many people actually want there to be a Sleepers 2? And if you want it... how amped would you be if I told you there's an official trailer coming out this month???
woah this was 2 years ago this is like the 3rd time watching this haha i cant wait
Because of you now no one will line up next to my 02 Regal LS it has a turbo and when I first built it people would race now they laugh and say no way.
Really amped but are you trolling sir or serious ?
Why would I troll my own video? Lol
***** You're going to have an issue with that. The 1.6 and CVT are going to be massive limiting factors.
7 years later...and 4 years after the sleepers 2 trailer....still subbed and still waiting.
Michael Potts ding ding ding! This man knows what he's talking about.
fucking thankyou
I own one of these fast looking cars, a '81 Camaro Z28, and I know its not fast (not yet anyways) it came stock with 175hp, buts thats not why I bought the car. I love the look and I loved driving it, even through the summer in texas with no AC I still drove it, not everyone that drives a "fast looking car" are just egocentrics looking for attention.
I really enjoyed this aahaha
Apparently you're not allowed anything nice looking unless it has 1000hp. fk what people think.
Michael Potts I am inspired. Will tune my car (2005 Toyota Corolla) as soon as I get the cash to something around 650-700HP.
And yes, I am crazy 😂
"how the fuck is boat beetin me" lmao
I chuckled at that part to. 😂😂
laughed my ass off at that
the SHO has yamaha engine
ArabianKnight7771 yeah it does. It's also rev limited so the pulleys don't start flying off all the other accessories. That motors good for 10 k rpms but the rest can't take it. Great cars for their day.
ArabianKnight7771 Yamahammer
Love it lol "Hows the fuck is that boat beating me"
Christopher that had me rollin

I really enjoyed the "sit in front of your camera by yourself and act like you're being interviewed" thing

I'm not sure why I've watched this entire video a few times over the years lol. Never gets old, just more inspiring.
Facts, I’m back here again in 2022. 😂🤘🏻
same my buddy just got a sho because of this video
Dude I swear. This is my first time in YEARS, but my 5/6th time overall. It’s nostalgic for me at this point as I enter my 30s lmao.
I keep coming back to this video and it's still awesome!
Ben Meyer i keep driving one
I have watched it endlessly because it speaks to me personally
Same. Maybe the 49th time watching it. I'm looking for a Buick park Ave Ultra or a Regal GS right now actually. Or a LeSabre and a supercharger kit for it. Anything with the GM 3.8 L V8
Fuckwits appeal to fuckwits!
Ricers all show no go
Sleepers all go no show
Tuners all show all go
Yea 😂
gotta' love all the dumb bros and jocks making the same ignorant comments.
"my car's still faster" . "Buick doesn't get you laid" . "notice how he didn't race a Ferrari"
great job totally missing the point. the Sleeper has nothing to do with any of that. he didn't say it was the fastest car on Earth. he routinely admitted how horrendously ugly it is. the point is that you can drive it all day long, all over town, and pull up to all kinds of other guys who think they're hot shit because they just bought a 'nice' sports car off the lot for 50 stacks and blow their doors with your cheap beater. it's just fun. it's just another subset of the car culture.
ultimate sleeper is a smart car with a Suzuki hayabusa engine , nothing goes like them 0-60 in less than 3.5 sec
Mill Wurray a hyabusa hits over 200mph if you have the balls and the acceleration feels like your arms are getting ripped off , civics rock but you will never catch a busa with a civic
Yokel Perfecto look into cars with busa engines
Mill Wurray *Power to weight ratio dumbass*
cmz8706 I totally agree, plus buick makes a tuff and reliable platform.
Hope you have fun!
this is one of the greatest videos on youtube period.
How do people who watch this video think that the cars I race are stock? I've listed all the mods in the description, and even made a follow up video to answer questions. Tell me more about how I'm bullying "stock" vortech supercharged Mustang GT's. :)
So where you at I gotta a mustang I'll run ya you made some nice power there
***** yea try 422hp 444torque 535 crank with c6automatic 3500 stall on 93 pump gas 12psi
***** nope old school 90 mustang convertible looks like a six banger till you hear it sleeper car no badges push rod motor stock block 4 lug axles
*****
Please don't misunderstand me.
***** yea I got a few on here no racing yet been working on it for going on 6 years now little by little
Fast forward 15 years... Where is sleepers 2?
I know right 😂
Braxton Bradshaw
hes probably married now XD
Nope lol
Uncle Bob 15 years? its been 6...
LOL "how the fucks that boat beatin me"
i died at that Part😂
Dude, I was telling my friend a few months back about a video a guy made for his class about sleepers. I saw about 10 years ago. I can't believe I am watching it again! Big ups from Texas!
Oh how I miss my 96 SHO. Same color and everything. A true sleeper.
In 2019, still waiting for a sequel.
SHO Power!!! I loved that car, I had a 93 in silver just like that. Interior and speed to match the Bimmer 540
Awww man, this is making me miss my SHO. Also, that series II 3800 supercharged is no joke.
I got a 3800 in my car now
3.8 series II RULES
GM's 3800 was always a potential beast from Hell. My first car was an 88 Toronado, with only 165 hp and 210 torque, but would light the front tires all day. With a supercharger, and mods on top, you've got a modern day Grand National.
the thing that made them a beast was the transmission too. even though they were weak they were geared absolutely perfectly for the power curve.
You know what, I enjoyed seeing your progress over the years. Thanks. You spoke with confidence, not the cocky arrogance alot of gear heads have. Outstanding work young man.
374 at the wheels! Damn. That's really good. Might be the fastest street Regal in existence.
I have a 2013 SHO. It doesn’t stand up to modern muscle cars like the 90’s SHO did, but can still beat most out there from a stop. All while sitting on massaging seats. One of the greatest stock sleepers ever made.
Sleepers are car enthusiasts ninjas, silent but deadly
Just like a greasy fart and we all like those too. Oh wait... never-mind.
That 3.8 is one of the world's great engines. I've seen them in Fieros and they are remarkably robust with two or even three times stock horsepower.
They’re amazing. I have one in my 03’ Monte Carlo and it’s bulletproof
Y 1999 pontiac gtp supercharged does the job for this old pensioner lol
I love the Ford Taurus SHO. That thing was a beast. Look like Grandpa pulling up leaving them in the dust.
Remember when those came out, sleeper right from the factory
I do love the American car scene you can pick up cheap cars make them fast cheap.
DirtyDiesel100 yea modified own car
The Father not any more. Everyone is taking them to a junk yard .
You'd love australia more
Cream seats in the Regal 🎶
Heard an ad on the radio for some type of muscle car, i died when she said "it will give you the confidence you'll need!"
"What a piece of junk"
"She'll make .5 past light speed.
When I first got it my friends made fun of me I never heard the end of it
JKeetleakaJK
hey, kias are surprisingly reliable. Not fast...but reliable.
They might not be the fastest but if you know how to drive, it dont take just speed to beat anyone you randomly run into on the highway/freeway etc.
Lol got a Ford Taurus with the dohc 3 liter destroyed so many ricemobiles
***** funny how i bet that never happened
There is a video uploaded 11 years ago but it over 10 minute is this real?
Never underestimate the full potential of a dedicated sleeper. you never know what its packing. HAHA Love this
I love sleepers.
This shit made me cry. Documentary like. Great job. I've watched it several times over the years.
I was smiling the entire video! This is amazing. I love how humble and quiet he is, all while embarrassing these guys. Lol.
took a nap but I'm back, did I miss anything?
Bro what ur a legend
I love them ford Taurus'. I had one as my first car. Beat the piss out of er
Do a collab with 2point2turbo 🐌🐌
Please, start uploading again!
From 9 yrs ago, these edits are absolutely awesome!
5:36 ROLL YOUR WINDOW UP FOR AERODYNAMICS!!! HE'S PULLIN
My kind of guy.
A sleeper is the exact opposite of a ricer
Some of the most stolen cars are honda's and toyota's because they blend in better than a lambo. Like think about it if you steal a lambo more people are likely to see it unlike a camry which nobody would blink one eye at it. If your car is unique it is less likely to be stolen because it can be identified easier.
This never gets old 👍
"how the fuck is that boat beatin me?" LMFAOOOO
"How the fuck is that boat beatin me?!"
Dead
Keep holding on to the dream... Love what you did to the Regal. And just like Dominic Toretto once said. It does mater if you win by a mile or an inch. Winning is winning. Keep building those cars Bud.
As a soon to be owner of an accord V6 6MT this video gets me excited.
Every while I come back and watch this... great video!
I miss my SHO!!! I had a 94. A Yamaha 24 valve duel overhead cam V6...bright ass red!!!! I walked 5 mustangs and a iroc z camero in a 4 door sedan. Had a few people even ask me...."what's a SHO"
That's right! Don't fuck with the Regal!
Sleepers are fun, I suprise people all day with my old suped up volvo wagon. Gives me great pleasure
I still come back and watch this every few years.
I had a 2001 Regal GS. Those cars are no joke if you modify them correctly. Same goes for the Pontiac Grand Prix GTP. Pulley, exhaust, headers, and you're be making some really good power. Only bad thing about those cars is they are front wheel drive.
even better are GMs v8 fwd cars. if i remeber correctly they were, bonneville, grand prix, impala, lacerne (or however you spell that buick).
Lucerne, DTS, late-model Monte Carlo SS.
Josh Mason wasnt the FWD monte carlo ss only supercharged v6
no they have the Buick park ultra the Bonneville ssei and the gtp and a Buick Regal GS and a Buick Riviera Supercharged Coupe thought are all the 3800 taht ware supercharged 1996 or new has the series 2 motor and thats what u want alot of after market parts out the the s1 dont have no after market part and if u want to make any hp and tq nothing is really out there u have to use all junk yard part like headers u can build a exhaust but u cant tune it for shit and there super chargers arnt as good either compared to the m90
I had a buddy who modified his 03' GTP and it was INSANELY FAST compared to most sports cars of the time. I still remember the distinctly LOUD whine of the Supercharger. GREAT generation of sedans
Who here is still waiting for Sleepers 2 in 2017?
Brett Stoneman he probaly never made a part 2 cause he realized everyone knew his video was bullshit. He even says in a comment cars had mods ect. Well hell my o2 ford taurus could kill an 04 mustang gt if i put a shit load of mods on it. This kid was an idiot
@@jamesruot4762 Isnt that the point of a sleeper? lol
@@haloman123123 yes it is, this James is a dumbass
James Ruot You just embarrassed yourself so badly and you’re so ignorant you didn’t even realize it. You’re a joke buddy.
1987slim
But cars back then were even louder and more obnoxious and emitted noxious fumes/odors.
Talking about the people not the cars.
1987slim
People made the cars.
1987slim exactly, his point is 100% valid, I see it every day.
Do you mind sharing the mods you did that Buick I have a LeSabre would love to do the same thing to get it's non-supercharged but I don't have any info only 3800 what all I would have to do
For anyone looking and wondering, the song at 3:56 is an instrumental version of “role model” by Eminem.
I have finally found it. My crusade is over.
@@plasticsurgeon5062 I had been looking for the song since I watched this video, so I wanted to help others find it.
yep those were the good ole racing days, the cobra mustang when the mustangs were that style and the ones before them,i had a 1996 s-10 and i was one of the first people in houston to have air bags then i installed a 96 vette LT1 in it with my 5 speed manual and i beat so many mustangs, camaro's,ss impala's you name it.i had a blast oh and not to mention the ricers.but now days people have insane horse power,so your gonna need a really bad ass sleeper, nice video man.brought back memories

Greatest Car video on RUclips of All Time
Awesome video! I love sleepers. I like to think my volvo s60r is a sleeper i always loveee the reaction people have when i race them and i keep up or win😂 its priceless.
Im still waiting for part 2 7 years on
One of my favorite videos of all time.
LOL)
I'd bite the bullet on the LSx! As much as I love L67s, the LS sounds so much better, can make more power for cheap, and is lighter to boot.
thefleshrocket
A few years ago, I saw a Fiero with a Northstar crammed into it. Was inside at a car show so didn't get to see it perform. Pretty cool though.
5:30 "He's Pullin" so mustang driver rolls up his window to gain aerodynamic advantage LOL.
2021 anyone? I’ve been watching this video atleast once or twice a year since it’s release.
I know AMG's are not total sleepers but my 4 door E55 AMG grocery getter blows peoples minds also. Cool video.
My buddy had a VR4 Galant that was a total sleeper. Just by looking at it he use to get laughed at because from the outside, all you would see is a 3 1/2 inch exhaust. But what people did not know is that his VR4 Galant was a high 10 second car.
alot of people don't know the Galant VR4 had a Rally car heritage. its 4WD and has 4Wsteer.
funny watching a Taurus SHO walking on a Corvette
In the end, you have have a Buick regal.
A Buick with all options, low insurance and in the end can accelerate as fast as most $80000 cars. So who made the bad decision.
+Nick Bloebaum if money is an issue I guess Buick owner, personally I'd rather just have a nice looking fast car.
+Nick Bloebaum how does it corner????? LOL
It doesn't.......
Stick another 3 to 5 thousand into suspension and control arms your still way below 80000
+Sahadi420 haa 😅
2019 still no head
I mean sleepers 2
"How the f*ck's that boat beating me?" :-)))
Way to be you, A man after my own heart.
At the end of the day you still drive an old mans car.
lol
it's called class, learn it and practice it.sounds like you are a mustang or Honda boy racer
Class is a Mercedes or a Cadillac. Not this ugly garbage. I drive a CTS.
+caleb slagle The fact that you drive an overpriced CTS tells everyone here all they will ever need to know about you.
And what do you drive jackass? A Honda?
So a sleeper is actualy the oppessite of a ricer? :D
***** why not?
no ricers can be sleepers. Sleepers are cars that don't look fast but actually are. I've seen a pickup run an 8.4 1/4mile. That's a sleeper for you. He could also have very well been a ricer.
Leroy Butts theres no way a pickup will run 8.4 and still resemble a stock car. LOL
+marc martens "oppessite"?
Mathias Braun lol suck at english
I just bougth a 2000 regal supercharged is there a chance u can share what u did to yours, i'm from México and i love this type of cars just want to make him run more, thanks.
I just purchased the 2002 Buick Regal less than 20,000 original miles brand new interior brand new tires looks like it's never really been driven. Has the supercharged and everything but mine's a little bit more special. Has a very rare interior, two-tone brown leather . I've only seen one like this one once before.
I'm going to look at an 03 Regal GS tomorrow. Older lady owned with 124K
miles on the clock...I am very optimistic, but being cautious at the
same time. Her asking price - $900 Could be a massive win... Will post a
followup message on the outcome of my 3 hour trek to go see this
thing.
It was fun back in the day, I had first gen zx3 5pd focus with nitrous and my buddy had a high boost regal. Trolling car meets was a sport for us.
What happened?!?
Thanks for the update!
engine swap after?
Toyota Camey, been done but not often and they can be fast
I just bought a used 2010 Camry w/V6 XLE. It's the one without all the flashy rims and ground effects. One may not believe me but I took on a Dodge Challenger w/Hemi.
I did not beat him but we were door to door. He did not pull away from me. I was shocked.
I'm looking to change the intake, headers and exhaust. Unfortunately parts are expensive for this and also rare. Really want a supercharger or turbo but none are available.
Maybe he was playing with you!
Didn't want the payments.
can your regal take a turn at 60? didn't think so, now thats racing
yes turns at 60+ is racing for most of the world outside the U.S.
But the people he's racing are in the U.S. on U.S. Highways.
I see your point.
but a car is only good for what you intend to race it for.
Straight lines are what american muscle cars are good at.
Tracks and tight turns are what foreign cars are good at.
I personally like actual tracks to test a someone's skill with a car.
straight lines are boring.
the fact he was racing all stock cars too is a little disappointing. plus. a buick regal? not american muscle...
its still a domestic.
General Motors.
whats your point?
Damn right S.H.O s ain't joking around! I love mustangs to death but the sho and 93 t bird SC were faster!
shos are a pain in the ass to work on tho too
Oh yeah They are a pain to get parts for too , but the little shits will go like hell.
Need I say more than a stock 5.0 coyote...
I had a 93 t-bird sc and I had a blast with mustangs , cobalt ss and a few imports. It was a wicked car
Sorry if this was already asked. Too many comments to go through them all. Exactly what mods were done "for about the price of a wheel and tire package" to increase the power so much?
Insane Galvatron yes
Who else is watching again in 2021?
2024 The year we put Trump back in office.
Still one of my favorite videos on RUclips!
The third song at 6:27 is Creamer by Limp Bizkit
The fourth song at 9:18 is Upside Down by Lacuna Coil
What about the song for the ford sho section?

youre telling me that between an amg, an ss camaro and etc, 374 hp was the highest? that sounds like a stretch of the truth
The Merc wasnt an amg but unless the camaro was the v6 it should have had more like 405-415
Jonathan Clarke
If that Camaro was stock there is no way it would make 415.
I remember my SHO, black with blacked out windows, stick. Fun ride to beat on, but terrible maint. Now I have a 91 GMC SYCLONE ; )
William Dean And how is the maintenance on the Syclone? Is it stock?
I swear this is nostalgic asf, I come back to this every time
My sleepier is my 1996 Pontiac Bonneville SSEI
sleepers are awesome !
however besides the whole " trying to make your presence known " part, i like just having a car that i personally find attractive. To me besides those aspects of who wants to be louder and what not.. I like a decent exhaust note, personally i modify my car based on how i personally find it attractive.
But i do think car enthusiasts that build sleepers should always be respected because they understand the true concept of performance over cosmetics.
camaro iroc z are the slowest camaro's known to man kind lol
The Mustang II is from the mid-70s. Of course it's not gonna beat a car almost 20 years newer than it. Stock anyways.
True. I had brand new '87 IROC base engine with 165 whopping HP!
True. I had two '80s Camaros, and while I liked them a lot, they weren't gonna win any races against anything not similarly hobbled. I wouldn't mind going back and resto-modding one with a modern mill...
But at least gm knew it sucked so left a mile worth of hood space for us to put in a bigger better engine :)
You had a big impact on a lot of people Nick.
its amazing how we went from 200hp to 1000hp
+John Yang you mean 200 hp to 374?
+Exata1337 fyi the dyno measures hp on wheels? 374 is probably over 500
Marg87
yea but then the measured starting point of 200 would be closer to 300 aswell right? either way, big difference from 374 to 1000 xD
🚗💨 🚓🚓🚓 😎
I'd still rather have a nice looking car that's fairly quick, than a fast sleeper that looks like a pos.
Me too man... too bad most people these days call you a ricer right away...
Yeah, so true.
that's because your insecure and care about how others view you. a person with a sleeper is humble and not trying to prove anything to anybody because they are comfortable with themselves.
+nick duffy
What a load of rubbish, i couldn't care less what people think of me or what i drive, & if you say people with sleeper have nothing to prove, then why have a fast car?, isn't that to prove you're faster than the next guy? lol
funbus I.know right... what he said didn't make sense at all. If we'd care about what people think about us we wouldn't drive the crazy Japanese stuff haha !
