  • Beaver dads are some of the best dads in the world! They participate fully in the care and protection of their kits. Don’t ever mess with a beaver dad in protection mode.
    Enjoy the video of the little thief Petunia 😆 stealing from Tulip. Don’t worry though! Tulip is not missing any meals. 🦫 I spend a bit of time with Stormy and show our phase 1 progrsss.
    Happy Sunday!

    @00:57. Very interesting that Tulip is so laid back about Petunia stealing her food, but she will (gently) push Petunia back when it comes to affection from Momma Holley. Tulip really doesn't appreciate sharing Holley!!

    Happy Father’s Day! That Petunia is a perfect little furry critter even though she’s a brazen thief (stealing the carrot straight out of Tulip’s mouth!) You are obviously doing the right thing by Stormy. Comparing her fear and exhaustion when she first arrived, to her excellent appearance now, it’s apparent how much rehab has helped her. You go, Holley!

    I think Tulip is just a born mom. She will be a great foster mom helping all the new babies that come in. If she was nursing, she would probably adopt the tiny orphans and raise them. She is paying forward all the love and care she received from Holley.

    I’m so excited for the new space, it will be such a lovely rehab area for these cuties and more! Congrats on it taking shape! I so hope Stormy will be able to accept and be accepted by Tulip and Petunia. They would be such a sweet trio together…here’s hoping!🤞🏼❤🦫 Thank you, Holley & family! Happy Father’s Day!❤

    I think its like hospital for humans , we don't want to be there but it's needed.
    It's hard to see Stormy looking lacklustre but hopefully she will get bigger and start feeling happier around Tulip and Petunia.
    It's going to be great one day knowing she will go back out and live free as a beaver, I must admit though it's going to be hard , when you get invested in animals knowing its the right thing to see them going back to the wild , but it doesn't half hurt.

    Happy Father's day to all the dads. I see tulip scratching her back on the wire fence like an elephant. Do you think her scar is itchy? I can't say enough about the new enclosure. Its your dream coming true. You are one of my heroes dr. Holley. Stormy let you scratch her for the longest time yet. I think she is really beginning to get better. Her spirit is emerging. And that little whipper snapper Petunia, I felt my protective instincts going out to Tulip. I think Petunia is going to be a lot bigger than Tulip when she stops growing. Maybe by then Stormy will have grown and she and Tulip together might be able to take care of Miss Petunia or Mr. It's just that Tulip and Stormy have suffered so much....I still love them all.

      In soft releases like Holly plans for the animals get to choose when they feel ready to leave and then they can come back if they feel the need. (Basically you just leave the enclosure open so they can come and go) So it's going to be a bit and up to them. ❤

    It took me awhile to figure out what species these were because I haven’t seen them before. First with a close up of the baby, I thought prairie dog. Then seeing the one bending over I thought a very chubby otter. Then, I thought beavers. The way she rubbed her fur was the clue. Then the rear feet and tail clenched it.

    Tulip is very intelligent and kind, and Petunia is certainly sweet, but unfortunately quite arrogant.
    Holley, is there any way to gently let Petunia know that taking food away from Tulip is a very bad thing?
    Otherwise, when Petunia grows up, there is a chance that she will offend Tulip, knowing that she is very kind...
    And besides, most likely Petunia will be much larger than Tulip...

      Lol she does have boundless confidence that's for sure 😅 Tulip does enforce some boundaries that Petunia respects though, like getting skritches from Dr. Holly first! Lol while I get it, Tulip is definitely always going to be a little one, it's still important for her know how to take care of herself if she's going to be wild one day, Holly won't always be there. Part of that is knowing when to pick your battles lol. Carrots not worth it, banana maybe lol hence why Holly protects those 😂

      @mom.left.me.at.michaels9951 8 дней назад

      That's the best part of soft releases! Stormy will be given the opportunity to choose to stay or leave when the time comes. She definitely doesn't seem to explore a lot right now but Dr. Muraco definitely raises some confident beavers, and I'm sure with time she will come around. She's only just now free of the parasite, and I'm sure the meds felt strange so she's only now going to start to have energy to really start moving around, and it will probably be at night when she does.

    Here's an odd question; which are more numerous, beavers or nutrias? They are very closely related.

    • @hmuraco
      @hmuraco  9 дней назад +2

      Beavers are native to North America with an estimated population of 15 million (prior to the population collapse due to the fur industry the numbers were over 60 million). Nutria are a nonnative species introduced from South America (they were brought to the US in the late 1800s for fur because the beaver numbers were so low). Their numbers are less than beavers across the US because they don’t survive well in the cold. They have the highest numbers in the south. They degrade wetland and marsh habitats whereas beavers improve habitats.

  • @youtubeobserverz
    @youtubeobserverz 9 дней назад +5

    Dr. Muraco, I just saw a Beaver for the first time ever on SR-56 during my bike ride! (I've seen a puma, a number of bunny rabbits, gators, Sandhill Cranes, who are bossy, snapping turtles (have to be very careful when carrying across the road), various birds, and as always Florida drivers who don't give a da--.) I asked if he was Tater or Turnip, but he was mum's the word. That culvert I sometimes see gators, so I hope he's safe.
    Any chance of getting Tulip, Petunia and Stormy some proper table etiquette lessons?
    Please don't accuse anyone of being a thief: Possession is 9/10ths of the law!!! 🥰
