Yes, these cats were rescued by Fish and Wildlife. We have no idea what happened to the mother. Anybody commenting on the mother is just guessing. There has never been any report of a Mountain lion in this area that was killed or hit by a car.
Since this video was filmed there was an update to the story. The three cats were cared for here in the local area of Preston Idaho. About two weeks ago they were placed in a wildlife preserve in North Carolina. The sad part of the story is that one of the Cubs had a bad reaction to the sedative and died. The other two are now in North Carolina alive and well.
This has been a life changing experience for me. Not only the experience of the Cubs but meeting people who have seen the video
and the conversations are so cool. Thanks to everyone who has commented and watched the video. God Bless

Crusader1815 people like are you are exactly why wildlife gets shot. These babies look fine (one looks thinner because there is usually a runt and a dominant sibling) and they don't always stay with the mother. Some get curious and die while others don't... It's sad, but that is how this have always been. If you start feeding them then they'll keep coming back. Someone will report it and then they'll be shot. Educate yourself properly and respect them from afar (unless they are actually injured and are in need of wildlife rehabilitation - then contact *the professionals*).

They are so beautiful!!! Its true that in this age theyre in a "curious phase" where they can come quite close to humans without yet being fearful or careful. The same goes with wolves. Their "curious phase" happens when they are a bit older though, right before they're weaned off from their mother they will start to venture out on their own and its not uncommon that they go quite close to human structures. Im a vet myself and live in the Arctic on Svalbard's where I study the effects climate changes have on the wildlife (starving polar bears and arctic wolves) and I meet several groups of curious teenage wolves every season. A few times Ive even experienced them climbing up and looking in my windows. These cats are of course much too young to be on their own and its lovely to hear they were rescued and re-placed somewhere safe. Although 1 died from sedation shock thats still 2 out of 3 cubs surviving. That more than the average percentage of cubs in the wild.

I think they were too young to be afraid of much. I had actually walked outside to see where they went at one point, walked around a corner and almost ran right into them. They just stood there so I walked backwards back into my home. They were very young and still in the exploration phase of being a cub or kitten.

    • @elcajondavid1
      @elcajondavid1 8 лет назад +7

You were lucky. Usually the mother is nearby. Had a friend that worked trucking logs out of the forest nearby, and he spotted what looked like an orphan cub. Decided to stop and pickup the poor thing, and by the time he made it back to the truck with the cub, the mother showed up, and he said she was ticked beyond belief and wanted her cub back. I asked him why he did not toss the cub out of the truck, and he said he was afraid of opening even a window, because she was most definitely not afraid of the semi. They kept the cat for a little while until fish and game found out about it, and took the cat from them. Guess it eventually made it's way to the San Diego Zoo.

yeah, they were not being ''playful exploring kittens'. they were near death starving. chances are they have not eaten in weeks. some hunter probably shot and killed, hunted the mother, and left her cubs behind to die. when cub animals are close to dying, they are most likely not going to be 'playing and exploring'. they are going to be behaving very irrational, like 'coming out into sight where they will be killed by any passing predator'.

But, I appreciate what these kind people did for these cubs, getting them to somewhere where they can get better, play and grow. It is sad that one died, but at least the others survived. And living in a sanctuary will be a great experience for them. Please leave a like if you agree.

    Orphans.
I have a friend who feeds bobcats when they show up with their scrungy mom. She had no milk probably, given her low body weight.
Mountain lions also may need a little help sometimes. Especially orphans.

@Chris Madison in certain cases yes they do need human help. We had a pair of foxes that were inexperienced hunters and the lack of prey items around made them get weak so we fed them daily when they came. The male got hunted down but the female gave birth to healthy cubs thanks to us. Altough interfering with nature is mostly not the right thing to do sometimes exceptions are made

You're not suppose to feed predators or any wild animal for that matter. Definitely not mountain lions. If you see signs at state parks stating not to feed bears or alligators or whatever the animal may be, it's for a reason. Once you feed them they will continue to approach humans looking for food. That's how people get attacked. I know most people think of these animals as cuddly pets, the fact is they can survive on their own and will attack at the drop of a dime.

You just need to be prepared. Mountain lions more often than not avoid humans so encountering them is rare. Why? They're petrified of us. Here are common solutions in escaping any injury:
-Walk with at least one more person. They're less likely to display aggression or propensity for attack in non solitary groups
-Don't run, as that gives into their instincts to chase
-Exaggerate your appearance (stretch your arms out). Look menacing and larger. Usually they commence departing at this instance
-Calmly shout (don't scream like you're Jamie Lee Curtis in "Halloween")
-Avoid eye contact. Experts suggest that cougars interpret this as a dare, thus may pounce at you
-Don't stand still...they may mistake you as prey as a result
-Don't bend down. That makes you look like a four legged animal aka prey
-Avoid getting close with them. Give a cougar that chance for escape. Most often, they'll take it and retreat
-Walk backwards. If you expose your back to them, they may ambush you, given how they strike from behind
-Ensure there are lights around you. They are less likely to come face to face with humans if something is illuminated
-Trim any bushes so they can't hide. Often cougars conceal themselves behind obstructing features (tree, bush, sign, gate, etc.). By negating that opportunity, you face limited chance of encountering them
They say you're a thousand times more likely to be struck by lightning than seeing a mountain lion. In the rare event it occurs, though, odds are they won't do anything since, again, humans scare them. Ideally you want to evade cougars in the even they're malnourished, ill or displaying habituating signs. In those instances, scaring them off usually is more difficult
