I think its due to people comparing things way too hard back then. Like "Oh look, a game from a different company that plays similar to a game I know. Its a rip off!" Final Fantasy 7 is my favorite rpg game of all time and I never thought to compare that to Legend of Dragoon. Even today, I dont see It. The atmosphere, the story, and even the battle system go in their own direction. Hell, id even say L.O.D. did some things way better than most Final Fantasy Games. The story, the Dragoon Transformations, the Dragon Campaign,Winglies,The Virages used in the Dragon Campaign, The Original Dragoons which you had to fight to free their souls, I mean I could go on with this. It was such an interesting story and game overall.

I thought I knew and have seen all I could on this game but you brought some new scenes and knowledge & I loved every minute of it. Thank you! 😊
Thanks for saying that, I really appreciate it! I had a lot of fun making this video and getting to know the LoD community. It was hard to find a lot of good info on the making of the game. But luckily, the community organizer I spoke to, DrewUniverse, shared a never-translated interview of Hasebe from this Taiwanese gaming magazine from 2000! With my limited Mandarin and Google Translate, I was able to extract a lot of good info from it which I included in the video
Good video. Having recently played Legend of Dragoon on PS5, I can certainly say that the game is a bit flawed, but it is a pretty decent game and one that has a lot of potential. I felt that the dialog in the game can drag a little too much since there way too much exposition, I felt the FF games had less exposition and I found myself more interested in the games, not saying that LoD had a bad story of course, but without voice acting, it can get very tiresome to do so much reading. I also found strange how some areas in the game have random battles and others have visible enemies that you can skip if you want, but why design it like that? Either have random battles or don't, so there's consistency. Regardless, it was an interesting game and like many, I do feel it really needs a remake.
There's so much there for Sony to build upon if they want to do a remake, but I get that it's very risky considering the high cost it would take to do it right
Based on how classic game remakes have gone, not all fans would want a remake either, as the "remakes" are more like "reimaginings" which change fundamental things about the base game. And considering all the BS surrounding AAA games right now, whether or not the game would be any good is suspect.
In this day and age and its really well known and the combat system is more in its time now. Yeah definitely be wise to remake the game and actually perfect it
This is the game that introduce me into gaming. I was born 2 years before this game, first time I played it I was 5; before i used to watch my dad playing the Ps1, for me was a dream. I swear I will quit gaming only after this game get a remake/reboot and I played it. The circle must be closed.
It's not fair. This game deserves way more than some ignorant "derivative" reaction. That's criminally unfair and inaccurate. Ah well. When I'm a millionaire, I'll fund the remake my goddamn self.
Hard to believe it didn't sell well. It got a greatest hits edition which puts it as a well sold game with a follow up release at a cheaper price hence being called a greatest hits game. Not too bad considering it also came out on the tail end of the ps1 life and ps2 was on the come up. Getting a greatest hits label wasn't that easy back then because of the stacked lineup of games available tbh. This game isn't really underrated it's just a bit forgotten. We haven't had any followups since it's release so that doesn't help.
Thanks! The community mod I interviewed in the video (Drew) sent me this scanned pdf of a Taiwanese gaming magazine from 2000 that contained an interview with Hasebe, I painstakingly translated it with my limited Mandarin and Google translate. But in that interview Hasebe talked about it. You can see a translated version of it here: docs.google.com/document/d/15dF-XiZuJ-k3VPAldE-wU-F9DEnYCfpIR2vkSSOjJ3I/edit
I love how eveyone raves about the dragoon forms but fail to realize that they r only useful in fodder battles. All important boss battles are actually designed and orogrammed to make the boss harder to kill if u use dragoon form so it becomes a giant liability...unless u like it harder for no reason
This is really overselling the anti-Dragoon mechanics, you can almost always get some use out of Dragoon form. Grand Jewel will only use Dragon Block if you stay in Dragoon for more than one turn, so transforming with

The main reason I say this game deserves a remake is much of the same reasons why people kept clamouring for a FF7 remake since the ps3 tech demo. It had a spotty localization effort, the game still has a dedicated fanbase, and could really benefit from the same treatment as a certain remake on ps4 also originally done by Japan Studio: Shadow of the Colossus. I really hope Bluepoint remakes this game before the ps6 is a thing because PS4 really gave me hope for great remakes
I would hope that if Sony does remake the Legend of Dragoon that they look to Final Fantasy VII Rebirth as an example of what gameplay they could use. That and beef up the story, side quests, and other content to get a wider consumer base so you get a larger fan base so that a sequel can be made.
@@n-i-n-o I had the exact same thing happen to me as a kid, thankfully my parents were able to help me send in for a replacement which took a long time back then but better than no game. It seems like there were a issues like that for a lot of people it's a shame since the endgame is nuts.
Honestly i don't want a full remake but a remaster with proper translations, add in some QoL options like jumping into the next battle without having to look for another encounter, no encounters, skip battle transitions, and ng+/chapter select. I feel like the above wish list items shouldn't be so complex of a code to make development hard. Also allow us to switch out dart
Ive been wanting to play this and i now have the chance. I played it when i was 10 years old and fell in love with it but never finished it. I then bought it on ebay about 10 years ago thinking i was gonna play it then but i didnt have a system to play it on so i waited and that day never came. Got into a car accident and the game was in my car and was never seen again. I now am a stay at home dad and i finally am able to play it on pc. I woukd have bought if it was on steam. I wish they woukd make a remake but at this point rn with all these ff7 remakes i dont think it would sell as good. I personally would buy and pre order but i believe more ppl are into ff7 than this game. This game to me is better because of additions, game me something to think of as a skill and not just do turn base attacks, that is mostly what got me into it
I rented LoD back when it came out and thought it was so painfully generic that I had no interest in renting it again, much less buying it. Compared to other RPGs coming out in year 2000 it just seemed to have very little going for it. Seeing the hardcore cult following in recent years has been pretty shocking to say the least, makes me wonder if the game just gets exponentially better after a certain point in the storyline and I didn't get the chance to see it?
You just need to go in with the mentality to not compare it to FF like everyone wants to. I prefer this over FF. Brand new this game would be absolutely beautiful. The gameplay is fresh, the storytelling is amazing, and the lore ranges from dark, deep to sweet. Making it through disc 1, if you’re on the fence, is a decent start - but disc two is exceptional.
Ah, Legend of Dragoon my favorite video game to this day I for whatever reason always struggled to get into Final Fantasy but Legend of Dragoon is just legendary.

@@BehindThePixels it's crazy the amount of details that I didn't know behind development, and I honestly had no idea it was on the toes of the PS2 release. That's a damn shame. I'm a 'fingers crossed' guy for a remake on this title.
When talking about a petition to justify projected sales you'll need to assume that there are people that would buy the game that did NOT know about or sign the petition. All a petition should do is prompt the developer to do more research into market interest for a product like LOD. If you look at just the downloads for the re-release digital version of the game on ps4 and ps5, it had nearly 2 million downloads. Much better than 30,000. Further, I think if we can look at the success that ff7 remake, dragons dogma 2, tales of series, ff16, elden ring and at a minimum you have to say that the medieval fantasy rpg genre is still thriving. If they can make a good legend of dragoon game in the same world, I think you'll have many happy returning fans and happy new fans that didn't even know it was a remake or sequel.
Me neither, I don't remember feeling this way about it at all back then. It felt very unique. Unfortunately, the bad reviews probably hindered the sales greatly and made it hard for Sony to invest in this franchise further.
I played the demo from that demo thing that had crash bandicoot on it 20+ years back just found it at the start of the year been playing it but I hate the pressing x thing during combat, it takes away from other aspects of the game I understand hitting it once or even hitting it multiple times for more damage like squall from ff8 but when u are forced to do it for punished for not it’s irritating cus I don’t want to hit the button 6 times per turn every time
More than 30k wants it trust me. I absolutely loved this game. Im talking phenomenal. If there was a remake I'd b blown away. It has its own vibe that u cant feel without playing it yourself
There was a petition? Aw man! I would have signed if I'd known! I love that game! ETA: nvm I signed it! I love FF7 as well and never thought of LOD as a rip off. Especially when FF7 is steam punk and LOD is midevil.

But luckily, the community organizer I spoke to, DrewUniverse, shared a never-translated interview of Hasebe from this Taiwanese gaming magazine from 2000! With my limited Mandarin and Google Translate, I was able to extract a lot of good info from it which I included in the video
@@BehindThePixels the interview was an awesome part to include. Keep up your good work, I see a lot of great videos in your future 😊
One thing is also that a quick time event on the first PS felt less precise (or, oddly, too precise) than later on. It was therefore a bit stiff.
Always wondered what happened to this series. Loved the game when I played it.
There's so much there for Sony to build upon if they want to do a remake, but I get that it's very risky considering the high cost it would take to do it right
Bruh the game sold 1 million units WORLDWIDE how is that "Not selling well"
It would b nice if they did a remake about the dragon campaign with zieg as the main character
Very well made. Can you please let me know what you use for the voiceovers?
Thanks! I use this microphone to record the voiceovers: shorturl.at/FNS26
wait wait wait breath of fire was already turning people into dragons and people LOVED IT and thats a capcom game
You DO NOT remake a masterpiece ever.
I loved this game as a kid. I played the hell out of it and got lost in it
I was hooked on this game when I was a kid too, it’s a great one
@BehindThePixels I liked the video a lot. I subscribed, looking forward to more videos!
Thanks! Appreciate the sub
This game here is way better than FF7. It's definitely on par with FF9 IMO, I will give the championship title to LOD.
I really loved your video, just amazing.
Thanks! Appreciate you saying that
Great video! Is there a source about Rose being a cut character from SMRPG? Im genuinely curious about that piece of trivia.
Grand Jewel will only use Dragon Block if you stay in Dragoon for more than one turn, so transforming with
And if there is a new voice cast for the legend of dragoon ps5 remake. Here’s my idea

Haschel: voiced by either Fred tatascoire* or Gideon emerys or mark hamill or Patrick seitz

You sure know your VAs
I still own my copy of legend of Dragon. Haven’t played it in a long, long, long time, but I loved it.
Remake and/or prequel please!
I love this game, when I was 10 years old I played 3 of 4 discs, the 4th disc couldnt be read.
Oh man that must’ve been frustrating / disappointing as a child. Hope you were able to finish the game later on emulation
@@BehindThePixels I will, but I don't know when. Do you ever played Grandia 1 for PSX? This is my all time favourite JRPG and btw great video!!!
@@n-i-n-o I had the exact same thing happen to me as a kid, thankfully my parents were able to help me send in for a replacement which took a long time back then but better than no game. It seems like there were a issues like that for a lot of people it's a shame since the endgame is nuts.
I bought the game when it came out and never played it. Perhaps now is the time to try it out finally.
The game is awesome. I liked the story a lot.
Oh shit im way late where do you sign?? I clicked the link but nowhere was a place to sign
I would love to see a legend of Dragon HD tour that would be awesome
Yeah, I'd totally buy into a LoD remake, they released it on the PSstore for free not to long ago and I've recently been replaying it!
I have a theory they might have done that to test the waters, gauge fans’ interest to see if it warrants a remake
And yes, I still have this in my collection 😮😎👍🏻⭐️
Honestly i don't want a full remake but a remaster with proper translations, add in some QoL options like jumping into the next battle without having to look for another encounter, no encounters, skip battle transitions, and ng+/chapter select.
I feel like the above wish list items shouldn't be so complex of a code to make development hard.
Also allow us to switch out dart
You nailed it!
Thanks man!
This game to me is better because of additions, game me something to think of as a skill and not just do turn base attacks, that is mostly what got me into it
Legend of the dragoon by far was my favorite rpg second would be the grandia series and Legend of Legaia.
This is game I played so much.Loved it and it was one of my top 5 games to play.
I can remember that being such a good game.
Something about it, the sound, the distinct visuals, just brings me back
That is a good game doc, you have some real potential to grow doing these kinds of videos.
Appreciate you saying that! Thanks for watching
It's ten times better than ff7 damn critics
Great video!
Thanks Bartek!
Ah, Legend of Dragoon my favorite video game to this day I for whatever reason always struggled to get into Final Fantasy but Legend of Dragoon is just legendary.
It’s got a certain charm and wholesome feel to it for sure
If anyone enjoys these in-depth videos on Playstation Classics PLEASE like and subscribe. Otherwise we won't get many of them.
If you're watching; if you like it; smash that like button and give this guy a subscription. He's good, and I want to see him able to make more of these. If you agree, let's make it happen for him!
If not, thanx for watching his videos anyways 🙂
Appreciate the kind words! I hope I did this game justice
No Sony needs to remaster this ASAP!! On the PS4 then on the PS5😮
PlayStation 4 is already discontinued no reason for Sony Interactive Entertainment to waste more resources on it
If The Creators Of The Game Won't Remake It At Least Give It A Physical Remaster For PS4,PS5 & Nintendo Switch.
Yeah, that would be amazing
@@BehindThePixels Hell Yeah I Love All These Remasters That Gaming Companies Release Physically Especially On Nintendo Switch.
Why do you think PlayStation would put one of it's ip's on a competitors console?
I hate when these good games get bad reviews so they don't make it again, I really liked this game and I bought it again for my PlayStation
Yesssssss! Thanx for this man!
Thanks for watching!
@@BehindThePixels it's crazy the amount of details that I didn't know behind development, and I honestly had no idea it was on the toes of the PS2 release. That's a damn shame.
I'm a 'fingers crossed' guy for a remake on this title.
30,000 fans is not enough to spend millions remaking this
Agreed, hopefully there are more than 30,000, that’s just the number of fans that signed the petition
30,001 right here.
It’s insane the seeing the quotes from back then, a rip off from Ff7!? Idk if it’s the nostalgia glasses but I don’t see that POV at all
Me neither, I don't remember feeling this way about it at all back then. It felt very unique. Unfortunately, the bad reviews probably hindered the sales greatly and made it hard for Sony to invest in this franchise further.
Great video
Thanks!
Let’s just do a go fund me to start up a remake
BECAUSE THIS GAME NEEDS A REMAKE THATS THE TRUTH AND THOSE 30000 PEOPLE ARE TRUE FANS OF THE GAME AND THE REMAKE TO COME
I played the demo from that demo thing that had crash bandicoot on it 20+ years back just found it at the start of the year been playing it but I hate the pressing x thing during combat, it takes away from other aspects of the game I understand hitting it once or even hitting it multiple times for more damage like squall from ff8 but when u are forced to do it for punished for not it’s irritating cus I don’t want to hit the button 6 times per turn every time
More than 30k wants it trust me. I absolutely loved this game. Im talking phenomenal. If there was a remake I'd b blown away. It has its own vibe that u cant feel without playing it yourself
yeah likely more, just 30K have signed the petition
Left many players feeling frustrated
Yes thats what we call skill issue lmao
LOD was a blast I Hope I can see it remastered would be awesome to see!!!
It was ahead of its time!
I don't think they have to remake it. Just rebooted it imo.
There was a petition? Aw man! I would have signed if I'd known! I love that game!
ETA: nvm I signed it!
I love FF7 as well and never thought of LOD as a rip off. Especially when FF7 is steam punk and LOD is midevil.
Best game in The World!
Such a masterpiece!
Don’t need a prequel or a sequel, we need a modern day graphics remaster.
Idk about this but please bring it to steam also, I beg of you...I miss it so much ❤️❤️🌋😍
would be cool to play this on the steam deck
@@BehindThePixels yes that too, in my case just to steam it's alright
We need a good remake from square enixe
I think I dreamed of a lod mmorpg prequel at some point.
Dragon campaign prequel plz
For real, I been saying this for years
Please bro. Release this game now! It will slay!!!!!!!!
