  • 11,000 years ago, a harsh war was fought between Winglies and Humans. The Winglies were well versed in the ways of magic and oppressed all other races on Endiness. However, the anger of both man and dragon turned to a flame of fury. Like a wind blowing throughout the lands, spreading flame to a blazing fire, Dragons and people stood together against the Winglies. Thus, the Dragon Campaign began in earnest.
    In this video, I delve deep into the history and lore of the Dragon Campaign.
    This video contains spoilers for The Legend of Dragoon which was developed by Japan Studio and published by Sony Computer Entertainment.

    It's almost criminal that Legend of Dragoon was a single title and not an ongoing JRPG series.

    This was the game that actually hooked me on JRPGs (Legend of Legaia left a bad taste in my mouth before that).
    I would even go on to do an art project for a college course based on LoD. It was Inca History, and we had to make our own quipus (Inca record keeping devices, with certain information indicated by the weft of the fiber, color of thread, pendant threads, and number/types of knots). I was replaying LoD at the time the assignment was issued, and inspiration struck. My quipu highlighted the seven playable characters in the game, with knots and pendant threads detailing particular stats on my save file at the time. Had to deply, reply, and dye the threads myself (took about a week). Got an A on the project, and I think I still have the quipu in a drawer somewhere.

    Such a criminally underrated game. It's funny. I love the classic Final Fantasy games, and the Dragon Quest franchise. But there's just something about obscure JRPGs that always caught my attention. Skies Of Arcadia Legends was another one.

    • @baronvonslambert
      @baronvonslambert 57 минут назад

      I wouldn't exactly call LoD obscure, it was only slightly less popular than Final Fantasy and a 1st party release, at least in the west, Final Fantasy blows it out of the water in Japanese sales with almost 10x more units sold, but it sold over over a million when it came stateside, was a Greatest Hits title, and competed pretty well against both FFVIII and IX. Though It probably would have sold a lot more if it didn't release three months before the PS2 came out in the US.
      And today including PSN sales, it's lifelong sales numbers are basically identical to all but the most popular entries in the Final Fantasy series.

    Fascinating as always. I would venture a slight disagreement regarding the Gigantos; judging by Kongol's general behavior, I tend to think the third person stuff is more an incomplete mastery of human language, and he is more intelligent than he appears.
    That aside, it never occurred to me that the Dragons were humanity's willing allies, as opposed to extremely powerful servants. In retrospect, I should have thought of it, if only because a Dragoon Spirit chooses its master. Which raises the question, why DID the Divine Dragon recognize Dart?

    It's amazing that the Divine Dragon was so powerful that even the Winglies of old, whom magical power were FAR more potent in the past, could at best seal the mighty beast away. As it was one of the very few entities that could threaten Melbu Frahma's rule. And even then it seemed the Winglies magic and the Dragon Block staff just barely kept it in check over the millennia. Also seeing Michael literally rip apart a Virage and annihilate several others with a single attack of his laser really emphasizes how extremely formidable dragons and the Dragoons were alike.
    I'd love to see a new game set during the Dragon Campaign and the former Dragoons, and possibly others during that era we don't even know about, as the main characters. But no, not yet given how much of a mess the gaming industry is at the moment. Maybe wait another 10 to 15 years when hopefully everything/enough as course corrected and isn't a inflated, censorship-happy "politically correct" mess. For now, just please leave TLoD alone...

    I wonder what the other 102 species born from the Divine Tree. I know about the Humans, Winglies, Gigantos, Minatos and Dragons. But what about the other species? Were they the Orcs, Goblins, Merfolk, Gargoyles, Dark Elves, Gnomes, Fairies, Trolls, Feline like Centaurs and other forms of wild life such as chipmunk raptors, giant aardvarks that are called horses from some reason, six horned rhino bull things, mammoths, wolves with a unicorn horn, birds, fish, manticores, triceratops, unicorns and other mythological creatures? What was the 96th species that went extinct? Most of all, how is the Virage Embryo or God of Destruction consider a species at all? It’s just a giant embryo the size of a moon meant to birth the God of Destruction and regenerated the world of Endiness after its destruction. What about the Virages themselves? They seemed like a species despite the fact that they were born from the Virage Embryo. Wouldn’t it make more sense for the Virages to be the 108th Species and the God of Destruction as their leader and the Virage Embryo itself is on giant fruit? Speaking of which, how could all of the races, including the Humans, Winglies, Gigantos, Minatos and Dragons be born from a simple fruit?

    • @sambarger3339
      @sambarger3339 3 месяца назад

      I take the whole 108 fruit creation story as I do all creation stories. Sort of like a parable to make something known that is otherwise unknown. There's probably a lot more that species of this world are simply unaware of, like how even today in our world are not 100% sure how we got here, and so invent creation myths to explain it. Somehow it would correlate. We see the literal tree in game, so there's some truth to it, but obviously not every species can be out into a mere 108. So maybe there's a lot more to be explored.
