Well said. Interesting timing to your question why do you collect? Because it's my hobby, it's exciting and it's a fun distraction from everyday stresses. However there are two sides to that.. for all your points the hobby can become the complete opposite. And finding the perfect balance is a challenge. Like any addiction it's about willpower. One doesn't need to collect to be a part of the hobby. The community will still always be there. And not just buying, the community, social media in general needs to have a balance. So sometimes a break, a step back, clear your mind and focus on what's most important in life, is what's best. Prioritize and find that balance.

I think it’s important to understand that at the end of the day you won’t be able to take it with you when you pass to the next life. Perspective is so important when it comes to buying things that you don’t need. Don’t mistake completing a collection with happiness! ❤ the things that matter can’t be bought in a store.

Great great video Chris. You said what many collectors need to hear at some point during their collecting journey. When a hobby becomes an obsession or addiction, it's time to walk away. When a hobby has you buying more pieces that you can actually afford, it's time to walk away. When a hobby is putting a serious strain on your finances to the point that it's negatively affecting others aspects of your life and well being, it's time to walk away. In this hobby, like most I would imagine, it's vital to have five attributes. Vision, Discipline, Patience, Financial Responsibility and a keen awareness of what your limitations are. Without those, it's easy to succumb to and get overwhelmed by a hobby. Take a break. Take a "Leave of Absence" from the hobby. Doesn't have to be permanent. Just long enough to reset your finances and mental health. The hobby will be here when you're ready. The community will be here as well to welcome you back.

I always give a tip to a newer collector " collect with your wallet " that is maybe the first and most important thing. Make a budget, see what space you have available. And see what you want to collect. Sometimes it's so easy to get lost in all the statues and offerings that is available right now. And indeed sometimes it hurts to see pieces that other collectors get in, when you could not. But then I always say to myself "something new is always on the horizon". Statue collecting is a phenomal hobby, but this is not worth to go in depth for a collection. Sometimes you need indeed to have some discipline to say "no, I'm not going to buy this ". Buying and collecting with your wallet is the most important. And every collection is amazing. Every collection is something to be proud of. How big or how small. But indeed this is a very good video about the difficult issue in our collection.

Most of us have to deal with this and try to figure out why we are actually collecting. I have found myself hooked on wanting statues but at the same time, I am anticipating statues more than I am looking at them once they are unboxed. The buying because of hype and community influence I have only experienced within custom groups which I now don't buy. I find in larger Facebook groups there is such a large variety of opinions and interests, it didn't happen. Although the BSC group is more specific to Batman and villains' so has less "variety" of interests than many other groups.
I remember when Chester started posted in the Facebook group and he was anticipating his first statue, and each after that, and those he was getting, then suddenly wasn't. Unfortunately, the signs of things getting out of hand were there early with him. I do not think he was trying to keep up, he seemed to be in a higher gear than most, or at least his enthusiasm! It was clear he loved being in the BSC group and part of the community which in turn made him buy statues to repeat that feeling of getting the statue and being able to post about it. This goes back to my own comment, I spend more time anticipating a statue than looking at it once it is on my shelf. I think we are all trying to scratch an itch without knowing where that itch actually is. Yours, Chris, is now YT content. It might have never started there but it is now. I do not believe you would have all the statues you have without the YT channel. I assume at least in part it funds your collecting also. My current itch is to have an awesome display of MOTU and Batman villains. The Tweeterhead MOTU line could be never ending, so I am at a point now I need to pull back and only get the characters I really want, and ideally sell the customs, I never really needed!

The temptation is real and can be difficult to deal with, once it has such a big impact on your life that you're choosing buying collectables over meeting your food, bills, and commitments then you have to stop and take stock and realise that you have to either rein it in or get away from the influence of it, at least for a while. It's a fine line between collecting and addiction, and any addiction can become negative if you let it. Take care Chester, I hope that you're able to step back for a while and get the situation under control.

Rest assured, this video and discussing this topic helps. It helps tremendously. People need to be reminded that nothing is worth going into debt over. Nothing. FOMO is real. We all get it. Seeing unboxing videos and pre-order announcements and most of all room tours, it's an easy rabbit hole to fall into. You're seeing all these amazing collections and you're wanting to catch-up without realizing that they've been built up over years. So recognizing and being accountable for the enabling, addictive nature of the hobby is really honest and smart of you, Chris. It's important to help people with information, experience and compassion and I applaud you for that. We should definitely be talking about this side of collecting as much as collecting itself. It's about collecting responsibly more than anything.

I mostly collect 1/6 scale, with a couple statues. But collecting statues or figures is an expensive hobby, but it can be manageable. I love collecting and have since I can remember, but making sure my wife and I's livelihood is much more important than my collection. Having a budget and sticking to it is harder than it sounds, but it's the only way to not only stay financially sound, but the only way to stay in the hobby. POs can stack up so fast, it's dangerous. Thanks for always having a level head for the community BSC! Keep up the awesome content.

I sold my entire 1/6 Scale collection to pay for it, and I had to unsubscribe to every channel I was subscribed to, including yours lol. For that to happen. Luckily, I only use RUclips and I’m not on any other social media, so that helped as well but now I’m back and collecting only statues, which I’ve always wanted more than anything else.

I have slowed down collecting. I pretty much took a year off and it was the best thing I ever did. I let collecting consume me. I never bought something I couldn't afford. Now that the prices have gone way up and resale value way down it's easy for me to say no. I collect smaller statues and 1/6 scales. If there is something I really want and it's a lot of money I will sell something I own to buy it.

i have personally gotten myself in pretty deep financially with statues. all pretty much bought on credit. whos got 2000 to drop on one piece out of pocket? if you do thats awesome but im betting most out there dont. i myself am pretty much out of space anyway and this insane hike in prices from every company even sideshow that are presenting really cool pieces but at 1000 plus dollars is just too much. dont even talk about prime one at 2000 plus for a quarter scale and 3000 plus for a third scale piece. no thanks, i dont care how cool it is. I can enjoy seeing these pieces that others are paying for and having to clean and display and worry about that they show off on youtube and be just fine with that. so keep the videos comin chris, lol. iam very close to some major payoffs on alot of statue debt and things are looking up for me, but im about done with the collecting i think. im not gonna go and sell all my awesome collection like some people do, now is the time i can sit back and really enjoy them without the constant nagging in my heart to need more, more, more. still love watching unboxings and reviews and all that but i dont need the newest and latest great release to be be fulfilled and happy in life.

My problem is space. I've done nothing but collect and I've been able to get pretty much everything I want. I'd be willing to thin out my collection but I've honestly never sold/shipped a statue to anyone. I've heard about some bad eBay interactions, I've been scammed on private online sales, and I can't say I know how to repack these things like the factory does.
I could use some advice on selling. I don't need the money but I need the space.

Yes, kind words... repeated several dozen (redundant words intentional) times. However. "I'm worried about people being addicted" doesn't line up with "but don't forget to tune in to the Friday P1 next level where we will show you a ton of new crap to be fixated on." Perhaps shed light for us on how you Chris as influencer tick, make a video about that. I don't doubt you prioritize family, but how does it work for you? I recently in another video commented questioning the percentages of each day that you spend on this influencing and collecting business vs. the rest of your life and you didn't answer but maybe you should. I jest that you spend 1 hour sleep 1 hour work 1 hour family and the rest obsessing about influencing and collecting. But what's the real story? How much time do you spend? And ffrom a money perspective, are you independently wealthy (I know you said previously your wife is a professional and you have a good job) but what you are buying and spending and the family trips you share adds up to way more in our minds even if you are not being lavish in the rest of your life. SO either RUclips covers a ton of your habit or there is something else we don't know. Please don't take this for negativity or hate because It is not, more power to you for what makes you happy. But this is just an honest comment that you are expressing concern for a real issue but embody/portray the complete wrong example of what those people should be listening to. At the end of the day, nothing but respect for you and all here and everyone should be adults about this and not let temptation drag them into financial or relationship ruin. But think about it and shed some light on you, because that may actually be valuable for us to know. S

Thank you for your comment. I admit on this video that I am just as guilty of enabling as others here in this community. I love collecting, and I love promoting the hobby that I love. With that said, I know that some individuals do have collecting problems and they themselves have to deal with that on a personal level. The community will be here to help when possible, but the key is to collect responsibly. That's been a message of mine since day one. I'm not independently wealthy, but my wife and I are indeed professionals, have worked hard, and try to enjoy the fruits of our labor while we are able. We TRY to be responsible with our money, and if that ever became an issue, then the collectibles would be the first thing to go.

Like you said, we all suffer from some sort of addiction, I have my own that I fight and at the start of my statue collecting journey, I went overboard. I had like 8-10 statues on pre order, my credit card bill kept climbing and climbing, but I didn't care, I ordered more and more. Every time I saw someone's collection room, it just made me want to get even more. Then one day, I had one of those realizations, I looked at my pre order list of about 10 statues and I thought, "What am I doing?" And then I started thinking, someday when I'm going to have to move, most likely into a smaller place than I am now, how am I going to accommodate all these statues. There are some things happening that will eventually change my life forever and I have to think about when that time comes, what I'm going to do, where I'm going to go. I'm not in any bad financial trouble, like what it sounds like Chester is in, but I do have to think about that kind of stuff in the future and it made me rethink my statue collecting. I still have a couple on order, but I will never again do what I did before. And yes, I did order way too many to where I am completely out of room. I'm going to have to look at my collection and see what I am willing to sell and just cut things back a bit.
