This is one of my favorite all time Eurovision songs. A lot of times my favorites don't rank very high, and I tend to like songs with folkish, pagan vibes. Please can you make and in depth video about Fulenn and Keiino
Overthinking It: Ummm..., no, it doesn't if you live in Minnesota and have ancestors from Denmark, Norway, and Sweden (plus four other countries). It only means the stupid state legislators of both political parties in Minnesota socialized the expense of paying for three new stadiums while denying funds for education and state Medicaid while allowing the billionaire team owners to profit handsomely AND get tax breaks besides. People in the Scandinavian countries would never be that stupid. As social democracies go, they're head and shoulders above everyone when it comes to paid leave for +/- one year for BOTH parents to be split however works best for them after a child is born, plus reduced cost or free childcare when the parent(s) go back to work..., not to mention single-payer health care for everyone, cradle-to-grave (the Medicare for All-type of health insurance and health care as promoted by Bernie Sanders in the US), and tuition-free education for everyone (whether college or trade school). Scandinavians take care of their people. Yes..., I loathe sports that make billionaires and millionaires out of team owners and players alike, especially when taxpayers have to foot the bills for their sandboxes and give them tax breaks and profits on top of that. They're rich enough to pay for their own. The US, meanwhile, is the only nation that has no health care for it's people. We're fleeced by insurance, medical, and pharmaceutical corporations.
Tina Olsen: He's talking about an American football sports team in Minnesota better known in the state for players who get arrested for beating up spouses, girlfriends, or other men, committing adultery, drunk driving, drug usage, importing prostitutes from another state for a boat party on a big lake, or otherwise being rowdy assholes. A few years go the legislators in the state voted to waste taxpayer money to pay for a brand new stadium for these overgrown boys who think they are so special they can get by with anything - on top of previously building a stadium for a baseball team and the jocks on the University of Minnesota campus in the Cities. Be grateful Denmark invests in culture, health, education, or other things that benefit all the people of Denmark, not glorify the very few who only play sports.
You forget one thing - the viking-spirit is still there. Denmark became the country to lose most soldiers in Afghanistan in the war after 9-11, compared to the number of inhabitants - a lot more dead soldiers than US.
I feel like his point still stands though. When it comes to self image the quote "You never see a dane with a knife in his hand.. unless he has a fork in the other." still holds true to a large degree. There is also the fact that despite danish involvement in different wars, the military is still called The Defense. A holdover from after the second world war, when the idea was, that there would never again be a need or reason to go to war unless it was to defend the country from being invaded again.
if you listen closely you can hear them saying something along the lines of "step to a higher ground" but in icelandic. I would guess its because it sounds more viking-ish but i dont know
Ja, men vi har steder der hedder noget med "bjerg" eller "...bjerget". Vi har også en hjemmeside for vandre enthusiaster: bestigbjerge.dk Tror jeg nok, jeg har ikke brugt den i lang tid. The rough translation for bestig bjerge is to climb mountains. Yes, but we have places named something with "mountain" or "...the mountain". We also have a homepage for hiking enthusiasts: bestigbjerge.dk I think...I haven't used it in a long time. I don't even watch Eurovision/Melodi Grandprixet. I only learnt today, that we had a good song, lol!
Denmark is one of the best songs this year, in my opinion. these are my top 10: 1. Denmark 2. Hungary 3. Belarus 4. Netherlands 5. Bulgaria 6. Armenia 7. Ukraine 8. Finland 9. Czech Republic 10. Croatia
Cough* the hats didn’t actually have horns, it just has that symbolically. Other nations wanted to show the evil and brutality of Vikings and Vikings decided to own it as their own symbol which is why it is commonly added but it’s not historically accurate. I’m a Norwegian which both explain my knowledge of the sorts, and lack of proper English grammar. Still better than Petter Solberg.
No viking theme in the Eurovision? Well, maybe not in the entries. But the entire background of the stage in ESC 1992 (Malmö, Sweden) was nothing but a viking long ship..... Though, more in the shape of a viking broad ship.
Hehe, great video! You're really good at this stuff - my hat is off to your research and your analysis! Greetings from Denmark (including scented candles and knitted wool socks)!
A long time ago I would agree with you, until when I found out some people include Germanic pagans from central Europe in their definition of Norse. Thus, calling them Vikings became a necessary evil to make no room for doubt that you were talking about actual Norsemen from Scandinavia.
You are wrong. The term "Viking" as a noun WAS used by the Vikings. If you are interested, I can find the ID number of the rune stones. Also, according to Adam of Bremen, the Scandinavians referred to themselves as Vikings. I've also found out why - that will be in my book...... I'm a Dane, and have studied history for almost 25 years.
every time he said rasmussen i thought he said Rasputin I love this song, and I hope we win this year! btw. am I the only one who is a little annoyed about the pictures he's using. like he said something about Denmark, while showing a picture of a non-danish city (there were mountains)?
Hehe...well they can't be singing of "higher ground" literally...or what? Himmelbjerget, Denmarks highest point is, what, 147 meter above sealevel 482 feet 313⁄32 inches).... or maybe they're dreaming of conquering their neighbor in the north, Norway? XD :) See what your vids make me do... exactly! OVERTHINKING IT!! :D :D All the best,
No when he sing turn around and take Higher Ground it means that you should Find a way to avoid fighting and go back to land because when you out sailing that means your ship is about to go steal and kill. The song is about a pacifist viking :) It really represents what Danmark should hold onto and what we should Focus On, Keep I was so cold viking determination and put the Bloody past behind:)
I'm a huge fan of your Eurovision reviews but I must say that this is not one of my favourite videos of you. :-( How about a review of Israel? Or Cyprus?
Hi Frederik! So we do things a little differently. We don't focus on whether a song is "good" or not - you can decide that for yourself. Instead, we talk about what makes a song INTERESTING. Sometimes that means we focus on the singer, sometimes on the lyrics, sometimes the music. And we believe that EVERY song is interesting in some way or another (we're seriously considering reviewing San Marino).
Well, since you have the word review right there in the video title, I was perhaps expecting you to actually talk about the musical aspects of the song, instead of some tired jokes about him looking like Tormund Giantsbane, and some oft-repeated facts about ''hygge''. But I guess that's not INTERESTING (random all caps ho!). Maybe I'm just overthinking it.
As a dane. I cringe so much when I hear names pronouced so.. well cringy. For example the name Magnus, keep the G soft to the point it sounds more like a U
Just so you know, Tormund Giantsbane is played by the Norwegian actor Kristofer Hivju. The most insulting thing you can call a Norwegian is Danish or Swedish. Let's pray he doesn't see this video, for your sake :D
Denmark is probably my favorite this year. Amazing song
Im danish, and i think Higher ground is perfect 😀
This is one of my favorite all time Eurovision songs. A lot of times my favorites don't rank very high, and I tend to like songs with folkish, pagan vibes. Please can you make and in depth video about Fulenn and Keiino
My country will do great this year. GO VIKINGS :-)
See where we come from, "GO VIKINGS" means you're from Minnesota.
Not sure I understand what you are trying to say.
Tina Olsen it’s an American football team from Minnesota :)

Wow, didn't know that! So you guys excel at war AND at coziness.

The actor for Thormund Giantsbane is Norwegian tho, but it's okay, Denmark and Norway are like best buds. :P "Det er deilig å være Norsk, I Danmark"
hva så der bror! :P (Danmark)
if you listen closely you can hear them saying something along the lines of "step to a higher ground" but in icelandic. I would guess its because it sounds more viking-ish but i dont know
So no joke about higher ground and that Denmarks (not including Greenland or Faroe islands) highest point is lower than 200m? Hmm
Would you say we missed some LOW-hanging fruit?
Is that both a joke and a way of saying that you have higher standards of your jokes. Or are I Overthinking It

I went to school with the author of the book about "hygge." Actually, he was in my class.
Actually. Vikinger did not have horns on their hats. It's a misunderstanding.
Denmark is one of the best songs this year, in my opinion. these are my top 10:
1. Denmark
2. Hungary
3. Belarus
4. Netherlands
5. Bulgaria
6. Armenia
7. Ukraine
8. Finland
9. Czech Republic
10. Croatia
How I have missed thee! 🇺🇸😉
Thank goodness I'm not alone for my love of Eurovision in the USA! ✌
Dave Fromage I'm with you! Eurovision is so underrated here 🇺🇸
You’re not! ❤️ 11 years now
You're not alone!! (My college roommates are tired of hearing about Eurovision by now XD)
Denmark I LOVE YOUR SONG!
6:15 Should I tell him?
Very informative, amusing and pleasant review of the song. Thank you for this, job well done.
Eh we also have hc Anderson? The biggest fairytale writer? Bluetooth name came from the Vikings? And we proud Danes! Whohoooo!!
and Søren Aabye Kierkegaard, a well known filosofer
*Andersen* names are always written as in its native language
And Niels Bohr, a famous Physicist
Love the video just can´t not get irritated with how wrongly Rasmussen is pronounced
Cough* the hats didn’t actually have horns, it just has that symbolically.

Okay but like are y'all in US okay? You are under Rwanda in that safety chart and they had there an actual genocide like 20 years ago.
When Rwanda is more peaceful than the United States...
Ouch.
Some of your reviews last year weren't great, but this enjoyable and informative. Good stuff!
Sorry but Vikings didn’t have horns on their helmets...
As every year... Please do more!!!! :)
NECESITO (sí, así con mayúsculas) más videos!!! 😅😅
No viking theme in the Eurovision? Well, maybe not in the entries. But the entire background of the stage in ESC 1992 (Malmö, Sweden) was nothing but a viking long ship..... Though, more in the shape of a viking broad ship.
Great piece of trivia! Thanks for dropping knowledge on us.
Then it is about time that another Viking will turn up this year. It is 26 years ago when we mention the year 1992.
Vikings helmets didnt have hornes. there hasnt been found any helmets with hornes from the viking period.
Calls it "Overthinking" yet dosn't know that vikings didn't have horns on their helmets....
Hehe, great video! You're really good at this stuff - my hat is off to your research and your analysis! Greetings from Denmark (including scented candles and knitted wool socks)!
I love your reviews, always so fun to watch. Keep it up! :)
Denmark is great
I love the Way you pronounced Rasmussen.
Very clever reviews. I am enjoying them very much. Maia, Israel
At least we agree about IVAN.
Can You make video about "Non mi avete fatto niente"? Please ;-)
Vikings don't have horns on der helmets
Yup, shamans sometimes used antlers though
Was talking about viking shamans.
I know. Their shamans (Góthi) often had antlers on their headdresses though. Google antler if you don't know what it is.

Denmark is 1337, couldn't agree more :D
Will the overthinkers be hosting the viewing party at the liberty bar in NYC? Or at another location?
We'll be there, rageguy311! Come to the back and say hi.

Haha... right ;)
No when he sing turn around and take Higher Ground it means that you should Find a way to avoid fighting and go back to land because when you out sailing that means your ship is about to go steal and kill.
The song is about a pacifist viking :)

Sorry, but you pronounced "hygge" as "högge". Otherwise, I liked the review and loved the song.
They were robbed. Should have won. Best song for years.

I was really confused. That dude be norwegian, bro. not freakin danish
won with Only teardrops.. that is not Danish...?
We need more Vikings in Eurovision to be honest.
Just so you know, Tormund Giantsbane is played by the Norwegian actor Kristofer Hivju. The most insulting thing you can call a Norwegian is Danish or Swedish. Let's pray he doesn't see this video, for your sake :D
heehehhehehe
Six Minutes of utter dribble. Just review the bloody song.
Yeah, that's not really how we roll. It's not everyone's cup of tea.
I love these videos so much!
I hate to be that guy but please do Hungary!
