I like eastern, and canadian railroads! The railroad crossings stop when the gates have lowered, amuses crossing fans without annoying ordinary rail fans!

    M. P. Bakken would be proud to know that the pole line still looks good.

The pole line, has a Railroader I hated those taken out , I've seen the young ones I work with trying to find a defect at a certain mileage and they start crying and whining because their GPS is won't pick it up 5280 ft to a mile 40 poles to a mile 132 ft between poles four poles is a 10th of a mile and 10 poles are a quarter of a mile,, I told him how to figure it out without their damn GPS and they just looked at me with the Blank Stare LOL the pole line was my GPS😊

Those are sharp looking Amtrak locomotives! (BTW, if that's your bicycle I think it's a nice bike) 👍

Looks like the GE units are on the way to the scrappers torch.

I prefer to be riding the Builder as opposed to watching the Builder but you can’t have everything. The great thing about riding the train is seeing all the places you’ve been taking train pictures from in reverse.

I just came to see if the Chargers could make it through the video without breaking down. Kudos!

Both trains were only part of the Empire Builder. Neither had the observation car so both trains are before/after the split in Spokane.

I can't speak about the accuracy of your statement, but, I am a retired locomotive engineer in Seattle. The morning Westbound arrival of the Builder becomes the Eastbound departure later that afternoon, after turning and servicing. I am assuming that what I am seeing on the video is very close in time for when they both passed this crossing.

Actually both trains had Observation cars.

Doesn't seem necessary to have two locomotives on a 9-car train unless one locomotive is dedicated to providing the hotel power

You can thank GOP obstructionism for that. Also, the biggest opponent to passenger rail are the train lines themselves. To them, passenger trains get in the way of their freight trains.

Gasoline is cheap in the U S compared to other countries so there are lots of cars. Back in the day up to the end of WWII, everybody took the train. Train travel dropped off after the war and government subsidies ended in the late sixties. I remember the City of New Orleans and the Southern Crescent. We had a congressman from our district that caught the Southern Crescent in Poplarville, Mississippi to Washington D C. Passenger rail service in other countries are government subsidized plus many countries are small and densely populated.

Because it's the largest railway network in the world unlike other big countries with very small railway networks in comparison 🤷🏻‍♂️
