It's kind of a small line in the manga so I don't know if it'll ever be brought up in the show, but they do mention that both Marin and Juju do pay him fairly for his costume work.
[Manga Spoiler] It was actually Juju who brought it up when she cosplayed with Marin and her sister. She was talking about compensation and she sighed that her (Juju) sister didn't pay Gojo for his work on their cosplay outfit. So she hands him money during that time.
4:33 Just a little note: The original title of the manga and anime is: Sono Bisque Doll wa Koi wo suru Which can translate to "That porcelain doll that falls in love". So it is already in the title. Maybe that is the reason they changed the title in english, they didn't want to spoil it. So while Wakana is the protagonist we mostly see as the viewpoint character, the romance plot will probably lifted mostly by Marin
Any japanese viewers would - in addition to the title being a giveaway - also have been able to understand the lyrics of the ending song, which basically spoil that Marin would be behaving like she's doing now. (I don't understand japanese myself, I just watched a videos of the ending with english subs.)

@@Ashewyn Well, Marin represents the "Gyaru" aspect of Japanese culture (originated from a fashion culture), who are usually quite vocal and supposedly more true to their own feelings. Which is considered opposite of how traditional Japanese Women are supposed to be more reserved and hide their own feelings. This is why, we see Marin acknowledging her feelings this early in the Series.
How many cute lovey dovey things does Marin do? Animators: Yes. Marin is my favorite new female main character. She is such a wholesome cinnamon roll! You’re the first to compare Juju to Taiga, and it’s a great comparison: two pint-sized tsunderes who are older than they look. I think Gojo needs to grow past his understandable fears and learn to love himself, or else he’ll think he doesn’t deserve to be loved. If Marin confesses right now, it would make his anxiety worse because he’d be afraid of somehow screwing up and losing her forever. It’s going to take time for Gojo’s emotional wounds to heal, but in the meantime he’ll get lots and lots of love from Marin!

They have this weirdly great chemistry despite how different they are that i just love
I think he now knows he’s not going to be cast aside as easily! But I’m not sure if he would even be able to recognize that someone may even be into him. I’ve been where he is self worth wise and it’s not a fun place to be 🥺

Fun fact! MDD is actually ran in a publications orientated towards adult males (Seinen) in Japan so even though its a romance technically speaking you're actually more the target audience then a women like me lol
I adore the attention to detail in this series so much, especially with Flower Princess Blaze, the in-universe anime they're cosplaying from. It's very clearly meant to be a series from the early 2000s, and not only do the artstyle and coloring work/shading fit that time period, but the scenes from it are actually presented in a 4:3 aspect ratio! I love that! Plus, most of the the voice actors for the characters in Flower Princess Blaze are actual actors from classic magical girl anime!

I’ve always figured that any thought JuJu had about the validity of blackmailing Gojo ended as soon as she found herself backpedaling away from an oncoming Marin.
Actually, I think she has no point blackmailing him. Girl, you were taking a bath in HIS house. Gojo just would have to say he doesn't know how you got in and you will be who has a problem for sneaking in someone else's house.
Well I think culturally you have to remember Japanese people are rather reserved and image preservation is something that exists! I think even without that it wouldn’t be hard to manipulate someone into these circumstances when they’re inherently shy and don’t want to be seen as impolite or improper!
I think it's portrayed pretty well. It's as clumsy and empty of a threat as you think a naive high schooler who goes to an all-girl school and has zero real-world experience with boys her age would make, and Gojou, being shy and also severely short on social interaction experience falls for it hook line and sinker. Basically 2 kids in over their heads lol.
The measurements happened before the accident with gramps, so Gojo's statement nothing happened is still true. I think Gojo''s flashback in the bathroom scene was a not so blatant hint at Juju's upkeep, "That's why she is so silky smooth" or at least that is how I took it. Juju does come across like the "Palm Top Tiger" and even how the voice sounds is quite similar. So much so I checked but different VA's. Also when Juju makes mention of not being able to alter the Official outfit, I think she is referring to the fact she is not a standard fit and the allowances in the outfits is not enough to change to properly fit her. Adding new material would not be viable as it would not cleanly match, she is also renowned as a top tier cosplayer and the quality of the outfit after altering would not match what people would expect. I'm not sure why but I do think her character is much more like Taiga's than this episode shows, pure speculation but I think she will end up using Gojo seeing her as the "reason" why they must get together after properly falling for him.
Yeah that’s exactly what I understood from the flashback too I just was taken aback that they used a flashback to describe what he was seeing LOL he’s so innocent. Taiga has a slightly more raspy lower pitch voice overall, but the style is very similar. There are definitely voice acting styles for character tropes that are followed so you would gather what kind of person they’ll be from being introduced to them.
@@Ashewyn I think it was used so that the innocence was kept while older ... cultured viewers understood. Kinda reminds me of Ghostbusters movie when I was a kid, never understood the scene with Ray (Dan Akroid) getting his pants unzipped by a ghost, but watching it when I got older I was just like how could they get that past the kids! Voice trope I do think is a real thing, look at any serious gangster role, got that gruff gravely voice, same with the bubbly childhood friend and I guess short fierce female characters. It is funny how certain tropes get ingrained into people that it adds insight without the need to explain.
It's kinda sad when you mentioned Gojo's lack of self worth keeping him from falling in love. That's a very real thing, I know because I experience it. I'm the effing Jedi master of preemptively shoot myself down. :(

I've really enjoyed this show. :) I watch the sub every week and also have been checking out the dub. I also ordered the manga. I like seeing various anituber's covering this show and hearing your reactions to it.
I'd like to say that something I find super endearing is that Marin's feelings for Gojo seem to 'flare up' whenever he's super-concentrated on something. When his anxieties drain away, when he's 'in his element' and is looking at a task and his brain is whirring, her attraction to him seems to flare up more than usual.

Now that you mention Juju resembles Tiaga its like Toradara in alternate universe where Marin (Ami) and Juju (Tiaga) actually gets along much better and Marin is the one admiring Juju contrary to Tiaga admiring Ami at first.

Also I've had to hide special interests that I'm absolutely obsessed over for more than a few months... more like a few years at a time or I'll fixate for a few months and rotate between afew so it doesnt get boring lol also being into lewd material in order to prepare... but being completely unprepared no matter what and never understanding when someone likes me unless they're 100% out with it. But even then I've been plainly asked out and thought it was a joke... oops sorry for the rambling

@@Ashewyn i do know that, for me, i only really engage with long form reactions from women with solid production. Good editing, lighting, deco, and the skill/personality to show enjoyment and understanding. But i probably wouldn't finish many videos if i wasn't getting a bit of "girlfriend experience" from it. My solo hobby can now have a little bit of parasocial experience, i'm guessing that could be the difference.
I love that Marin knows that he's falling for Gojo instead of playing will they won't they game for the entire season. Definitely the best girl of the season.
My issue is that they kinda used her as bait for creeps.. I mean when they introduced her Marin thought she was in middle or grade school, and then once gojo meets her in such a compromising position, we're given that really weird "silky smooth" flashback. It's only AFTER that we actually learn she's a year older (still around 16 years old). This isn't even to mention how the manga is uncensored which is really off-putting for something with a good story :(
I agree with this entirely. It was definitely unnecessary, and fanservice for those that enjoy this sort of content. Which I find very morally uncomfortable. HOWEVER she is 16, so it's not an age where we're like WOAH that's messed up, it's just the fact that it is trying to appeal to a certain type of audience.
I suppose I can see some similarity to Toradora. It wasn't my favorite romance series, I like more natural romances. Where it doesn't just come out of nowhere. That is part of why I have really enjoyed this series so far. The feelings the two characters share are coming initially from a place of respect for each other's interests and where they intersect. Serious stuff aside... I love how Marin and Gojo are switching back and forth in awkwardness. She started off not really thinking about it, and he was acutely aware and awkward. Now she is acutely aware and awkward. Their reactions toward each other are so fun! I am really enjoying seeing her becoming aware of him as a man. During the measuring episode she became somewhat aware when he was measuring on her leg. Now, after he called her beautiful she is fully aware of her feelings for him. I thoroughly enjoyed her realization that she was falling in love with him. I am somewhat mixed on how things went with Juju. Honestly, even if I thought that there was a woman that had tricked her way into my house, I wouldn't burst into the bathroom. I get that he had no ill intentions and didn't really seem to think things through. Even so, dang that was the wrong move! I didn't like her trying to blackmail him. It's wrong in so many ways. He made a major error in judgement, but that still doesn't make it right to blackmail him. He should apologize profusely, and not ever do that again. He needs to exercise better judgement. The interactions between Juju and Marin were loads of fun! I'm glad that Gojo had her come by for a lot of different reasons. One major reason so that he isn't alone with a girl that has threatened to blackmail him. Another reason is seeing Marin fangirl over Juju, LOL! The final reason was seeing Marin react to Juju thinking that Marin and Gojo were dating. It was so cute how Gojo and Marin reacted to the suggestion of the two of them dating. I relate with Gojo a lot. My self confidence is paper thin. I'm very reserved since I don't feel like a woman that I may be interested in would be interested in me. It's also a defensive measure on my part since I have dealt with unrequited love before. Gojo also kinda made it clear that he was free, which made Marin happy as could be. It was incredibly cute how much she squeed over Gojo being single. She knows that she wants him, and that he is free to hunt. Now we get to see her try to make their relationship official. I am here for it! I'm looking forward to them fall for each other more and more. Last, but not least. I just found your channel. I had a sinus headache all night long that made me positively miserable. Your voice was a balm for my ears and tired brain. Thank you! I look forward to seeing your reactions as the series progresses! :-) P.S. If I may make a suggestion or two, I would suggest checking out Kimi ni Todoke. It is much more slow paced than this series, but shows like it can be nice change of pace. Another one that may be of interest is Bokura wa Minna Kawaisou. It has a similar energy to My Dress-up Darling. It has some crude humor, but also really sweet romance moments. It is a bit of an odd series, but it is what I watch when I'm feeling down.

It's no fun when your body attacks you, so a calm in the storm is nice. :-) Hmm, it's hard to narrow down too much, but here are a few that I have enjoyed throughout the years. Snow White with the Red Hair is at the top of the list. The MC is smart and isn't completely helpless. The prince is respectful of her and is quite gallant. They slowly fall for each other, driving each other to be better people just because they see the other person working hard toward their goals. The Saint's Magic Power is Omnipotent is a more recent favorite. It has a woman as the summoned hero, instead of the usual guy. It has some heart warming and chuckle inducing moments. The romantic interest in the series is pretty dang smooth! My Love Story!! is a fun one with a not so typical guy as the main character. Basically, he is a huge, brutish looking guy who has a heart of gold. He has been passed over by every girl that he has ever liked in favor of his typically handsome best friend. Then a cute girl falls for him and his whole world changes. It has quite a few laugh out loud moments. :) As Miss Beelzebub Likes takes place in hell, but not the nightmarish hell of the Bible. Basically, it is more like our world. It is run by a beautiful, poised woman. Or at least that is what people on the outside see. Her new assistant discovers that she has a much fluffier side to her. The sheer number of warm, fuzzy moments in this series just make it a great relaxation series. Of course, there is a fair amount of comedy mixed in. The romance is heartwarming and fun. I really hope it gets a second season! Wiseman's Grandson isn't strictly a romance series. It is the typical Isekai where a person dies and is reborn in a world of magic. My favorite parts are when the MC discovers just how OP he is, and the reactions of those around him. I also really like that he likes one girl from the beginning, and doesn't waffle about or grow a harem. It is lots of fun, and has some nice moments between the MC and his love interest. There are a few more that I have enjoyed, but I'm sure that your list of "things to watch" is already a mile long. I hope you enjoy my suggestions. :-)

Well, it's not a talked thing that men watch shojo's too (it is known and popular to believe that anime is a boy thing). For me i watch wathever seems good in the first episodes, no matter the genre.

I know you are not alone in this and there are plenty of women who watch it, but it's an underrepresentation of a population that always seems in silent. I've meet girls who watch anime, but usually they not share or talk about it. Not so many of them used to talk about it, only the girls who go to conventions or do cosplay. For the ones who don't talk about it goes this way: the name of one anime as a recomendation, did you watch it? no, give it a try, yes, it was good, end, and start again in a new recomendation days or a season later. Consider that anime reactors are not that mainstream. There are plenty, but not as big like channels for videogames or other things.

How people look at any age is not something they can control. As someone who is 30 I constantly get mistaken for 20 years old. Consensual age, emotional maturity are all very important when dealing with delicate situations like this. It would be really bad if juju was 11-12 and for her to be blackmailing him as a late teen almost young adult. HOWEVER I’m there is a much larger discussion to be had about loli tropes trying to bait certain type of people into younger girls, which is disturbing in its own way. But I have no issues with people who look younger than they are! Can’t control genetics 🤷♀️

Well I think culturally you have to remember Japanese people are rather reserved and image preservation is something that exists! I think even without that it wouldn’t be hard to manipulate someone into these circumstances when they’re inherently shy and don’t want to be seen as impolite or improper!
I think it's portrayed pretty well. It's as clumsy and empty of a threat as you think a naive high schooler who goes to an all-girl school and has zero real-world experience with boys her age would make, and Gojou, being shy and also severely short on social interaction experience falls for it hook line and sinker. Basically 2 kids in over their heads lol.

I think Gojo''s flashback in the bathroom scene was a not so blatant hint at Juju's upkeep, "That's why she is so silky smooth" or at least that is how I took it.
Juju does come across like the "Palm Top Tiger" and even how the voice sounds is quite similar. So much so I checked but different VA's.
Also when Juju makes mention of not being able to alter the Official outfit, I think she is referring to the fact she is not a standard fit and the allowances in the outfits is not enough to change to properly fit her. Adding new material would not be viable as it would not cleanly match, she is also renowned as a top tier cosplayer and the quality of the outfit after altering would not match what people would expect.
I'm not sure why but I do think her character is much more like Taiga's than this episode shows, pure speculation but I think she will end up using Gojo seeing her as the "reason" why they must get together after properly falling for him.
Yeah that’s exactly what I understood from the flashback too I just was taken aback that they used a flashback to describe what he was seeing LOL he’s so innocent.
Taiga has a slightly more raspy lower pitch voice overall, but the style is very similar. There are definitely voice acting styles for character tropes that are followed so you would gather what kind of person they’ll be from being introduced to them.
@@Ashewyn I think it was used so that the innocence was kept while older ... cultured viewers understood. Kinda reminds me of Ghostbusters movie when I was a kid, never understood the scene with Ray (Dan Akroid) getting his pants unzipped by a ghost, but watching it when I got older I was just like how could they get that past the kids!
Voice trope I do think is a real thing, look at any serious gangster role, got that gruff gravely voice, same with the bubbly childhood friend and I guess short fierce female characters.
It is funny how certain tropes get ingrained into people that it adds insight without the need to explain.

When his anxieties drain away, when he's 'in his element' and is looking at a task and his brain is whirring, her attraction to him seems to flare up more than usual.

Now that you mention Juju resembles Tiaga its like Toradara in alternate universe where Marin (Ami) and Juju (Tiaga) actually gets along much better and Marin is the one admiring Juju contrary to Tiaga admiring Ami at first.

Also I've had to hide special interests that I'm absolutely obsessed over for more than a few months... more like a few years at a time or I'll fixate for a few months and rotate between afew so it doesnt get boring lol also being into lewd material in order to prepare... but being completely unprepared no matter what and never understanding when someone likes me unless they're 100% out with it. But i probably wouldn't finish many videos if i wasn't getting a bit of "girlfriend experience" from it. My solo hobby can now have a little bit of parasocial experience, i'm guessing that could be the difference.

I love that Marin knows that he's falling for Gojo instead of playing will they won't they game for the entire season. Definitely the best girl of the season.

To be fair main characters are 15-16 years old (somehow they look like you did adults)
My issue is that they kinda used her as bait for creeps.. I mean when they introduced her Marin thought she was in middle or grade school, and then once gojo meets her in such a compromising position, we're given that really weird "silky smooth" flashback. It's only AFTER that we actually learn she's a year older (still around 16 years old). This isn't even to mention how the manga is uncensored which is really off-putting for something with a good story :(
I agree with this entirely. It was definitely unnecessary, and fanservice for those that enjoy this sort of content. Which I find very morally uncomfortable. HOWEVER she is 16, so it's not an age where we're like WOAH that's messed up, it's just the fact that it is trying to appeal to a certain type of audience.

I suppose I can see some similarity to Toradora. It wasn't my favorite romance series, I like more natural romances. Where it doesn't just come out of nowhere. That is part of why I have really enjoyed this series so far. The feelings the two characters share are coming initially from a place of respect for each other's interests and where they intersect.
Serious stuff aside... I love how Marin and Gojo are switching back and forth in awkwardness. She started off not really thinking about it, and he was acutely aware and awkward. Now she is acutely aware and awkward.
Their reactions toward each other are so fun! I am really enjoying seeing her becoming aware of him as a man. During the measuring episode she became somewhat aware when he was measuring on her leg. Now, after he called her beautiful she is fully aware of her feelings for him. I thoroughly enjoyed her realization that she was falling in love with him.
I am somewhat mixed on how things went with Juju. Honestly, even if I thought that there was a woman that had tricked her way into my house, I wouldn't burst into the bathroom. I get that he had no ill intentions and didn't really seem to think things through. Even so, dang that was the wrong move!
I didn't like her trying to blackmail him. It's wrong in so many ways. He made a major error in judgement, but that still doesn't make it right to blackmail him. He should apologize profusely, and not ever do that again. He needs to exercise better judgement.
The interactions between Juju and Marin were loads of fun! I'm glad that Gojo had her come by for a lot of different reasons. One major reason so that he isn't alone with a girl that has threatened to blackmail him. Another reason is seeing Marin fangirl over Juju, LOL! The final reason was seeing Marin react to Juju thinking that Marin and Gojo were dating.
It was so cute how Gojo and Marin reacted to the suggestion of the two of them dating. I relate with Gojo a lot. My self confidence is paper thin. I'm very reserved since I don't feel like a woman that I may be interested in would be interested in me. It's also a defensive measure on my part since I have dealt with unrequited love before.
Gojo also kinda made it clear that he was free, which made Marin happy as could be. It was incredibly cute how much she squeed over Gojo being single. She knows that she wants him, and that he is free to hunt. Now we get to see her try to make their relationship official. I am here for it! I'm looking forward to them fall for each other more and more.
Last, but not least. I just found your channel. I had a sinus headache all night long that made me positively miserable. Your voice was a balm for my ears and tired brain. Thank you! I look forward to seeing your reactions as the series progresses! :-)
P.S.
If I may make a suggestion or two, I would suggest checking out Kimi ni Todoke. It is much more slow paced than this series, but shows like it can be nice change of pace. Another one that may be of interest is Bokura wa Minna Kawaisou. It has a similar energy to My Dress-up Darling. It has some crude humor, but also really sweet romance moments. It is a bit of an odd series, but it is what I watch when I'm feeling down.

Hmm, it's hard to narrow down too much, but here are a few that I have enjoyed throughout the years.
Snow White with the Red Hair is at the top of the list. The MC is smart and isn't completely helpless. The prince is respectful of her and is quite gallant. They slowly fall for each other, driving each other to be better people just because they see the other person working hard toward their goals.
The Saint's Magic Power is Omnipotent is a more recent favorite. It has a woman as the summoned hero, instead of the usual guy. It has some heart warming and chuckle inducing moments. The romantic interest in the series is pretty dang smooth!
My Love Story!! is a fun one with a not so typical guy as the main character. Basically, he is a huge, brutish looking guy who has a heart of gold. He has been passed over by every girl that he has ever liked in favor of his typically handsome best friend. Then a cute girl falls for him and his whole world changes. It has quite a few laugh out loud moments. :)
As Miss Beelzebub Likes takes place in hell, but not the nightmarish hell of the Bible. Basically, it is more like our world. It is run by a beautiful, poised woman. Or at least that is what people on the outside see. Her new assistant discovers that she has a much fluffier side to her. The sheer number of warm, fuzzy moments in this series just make it a great relaxation series. Of course, there is a fair amount of comedy mixed in. The romance is heartwarming and fun. I really hope it gets a second season!
Wiseman's Grandson isn't strictly a romance series. It is the typical Isekai where a person dies and is reborn in a world of magic. My favorite parts are when the MC discovers just how OP he is, and the reactions of those around him. I also really like that he likes one girl from the beginning, and doesn't waffle about or grow a harem. It is lots of fun, and has some nice moments between the MC and his love interest.
There are a few more that I have enjoyed, but I'm sure that your list of "things to watch" is already a mile long. I hope you enjoy my suggestions. :-)

I'm sorry for your small female audience. Well, it's not a talked thing that men watch shojo's too (it is known and popular to believe that anime is a boy thing). For me i watch wathever seems good in the first episodes, no matter the genre.

But also because some women are not so talkative about watching anime. I know you are not alone in this and there are plenty of women who watch it, but it's an underrepresentation of a population that always seems in silent. I've meet girls who watch anime, but usually they not share or talk about it. Not so many of them used to talk about it, only the girls who go to conventions or do cosplay. For the ones who don't talk about it goes this way: the name of one anime as a recomendation, did you watch it? no, give it a try, yes, it was good, end, and start again in a new recomendation days or a season later.
Consider that anime reactors are not that mainstream. There are plenty, but not as big like channels for videogames or other things.

How people look at any age is not something they can control. As someone who is 30 I constantly get mistaken for 20 years old. Consensual age, emotional maturity are all very important when dealing with delicate situations like this. It would be really bad if juju was 11-12 and for her to be blackmailing him as a late teen almost young adult. HOWEVER I’m there is a much larger discussion to be had about loli tropes trying to bait certain type of people into younger girls, which is disturbing in its own way. But I have no issues with people who look younger than they are! Can’t control genetics 🤷♀️
