For the price of the base Panda(25K) you can get the Inster with a bigger battery(49kWh), heat pump, heated battery, V2L and much more. This new LFP platform from Stellantis has dreadfully slow charging speed in the winter(max 30kW) because it doesn't have battery heating and also the consumption is very high(160-170 range in winter).

10:24 This has nothing to do with the Fiat directly but why do car makers waste so much space with the center console?
This is just my personal view but with EVs especially there is no transmission tunnel or gear shifter needed so why keep the claustrophobia vibe? The gear selector can be on the dashboard or on a stick like the indicators.
Some say it's to give a cockpit feeling but I like being able to move over from one seat to the other inside the car.
I miss how old cars felt so roomy on the inside and yet they were smaller than modern day cars.

Yes l agree, so many big SUV's have almost cramped front seat areas.
My Nissan Z12 cube has semi bench seating in the front, and you can move from the drivers seat to the front passenger seat fairly easily, handy at odd times.
Column shift ( CVT controller) and foot 'handbrake' ensure a flat front floor.
This all makes the car seem much more spacious 😊.

Our Ioniq 5 has a lovely flat floor, so the wife plonks her bag in the space where the console would be.

Actually it does have something to do with the Fiat: This is a platform shared with hybrid models (and probably designed with a 4x4 model in mind, so a transmission tunnel is required), meaning some of that "chunk" is a side effect of those shared underpinnings.

I usually have two gripes with Stellantis EVs.
1: they cost way too much and
2: the batteries are too small.
Clearly, 1 has now been dealt with. They are entirely reasonable in price. Love the steelies.
Sadly 2: not so much. Still too small. I know everyone seems to call these "city" cars but they aren't, they are often small but only cars so the minimum range really needs to be north of 200 miles no matter what the car.
But I think it's a great effort by Stellantis. Everyone's Ver 2/3 EVs which are starting to flood out onto the market are going to set the transition alight in 2025.

    • @colinwiseman
      @colinwiseman 8 часов назад +9

True, however, even a short range car at 100-120 miles to a charge is still more than enough to not be classed as a city car. Just expect to stop once or twice in a journey. 200 miles would be optimal, but the old women across the road from doesn't know how to get out of first gear and some how grinds away to get to the shops... this car would be perfect for her as she never goes more than 5 miles on a journey.

This is small battery, but its relatively quick charging, so tou can go and visit the grandkids twice a year.
I do think its cars kiek this though that gives evs a bad wrap. But its a bit undeserved as most people dont need more, they just think they do.
My mother in law, has never diven her car kore than 5 miles form her house, she refuses to go on a motorway. She drives ro work and the shops.
If they are going somewhere, my father in law drives his car. For people liek that. The spring and this are perfect.

As long as they can rapidly charge the second point becomes mute, most people only drive 20 miles a day so its perfectly reasonable and if you're going on an occasional trip fast charging is more important than range. One thing outrages me the most if it comes to EV pricing. I don't know how it's in UK but in Poland where I currently live this little Fiat starts from around 22.000 pounds that is whole 6.000 pounds more than it's ICE/hybrid counterpart. Coincidentally it equals to current average EV subsidy that ranges from 4.000-8.000 pounds depending on your circumstances. According to global data about difference in EV manufacturing costs compared to ICE cars it shouldn't cost more than 19.000 pounds. Basically European car manufacturers use government subsidies just to line up their pockets while EU imposes tariffs on Chinese EV's to make sure that richest families in Europe get richer at the expense of all others. Fun fact I went to my local Stellantis dealeship to see this new Panda. It's multibrand dealership selling all Stellantis brands available in Europe and Chinese cars as well. So when i got there I saw that they have: 1 Fiat (500E) 1 Opel (Astra) three Peugeots (208; 308; 508) none of other Stellantis brands and a buttload of Chinese cars raging from this small Leap Motor EV to those huge 7-seater electric SUV. More than 15 models on display.

Why do car makers think that "not completely miserable' back seats are in any way OK? This car - like others in its class - is declared to be a five-seater, yet three of the five will travel in cramped discomfort every time, with a (considerate) tall driver also forced to compromise.
Bus passengers, theatre goers and even airline economy classers wouldn't put up with it for a minute. It's a flagrant design failure, and we should stop giving mfrs a free pass. There shouldn't even have to be a Jack Test. A seat accommodates an adult and her legs without contortion, period. Otherwise, it's a shelf. Calling it anything else is essentially a fraud.

are you earnestly saying that 100 years of small-car heritage should have been erased? That people who very seldomly need more than one or two seats should somehow not be able to purchase a car like the Grande Panda that offers good space for two, reasonable space for two adults and two children, and emergency room for five? Very odd.

    • @AndreVanKammen
      @AndreVanKammen 8 часов назад

Yes this, it seems that all cars are made for small people these days. I'm 1.90 and my 2 kids are also getting bigger. I was looking at a Hyundai Inster which has the leg room and height, but they made that care very narrow so I'm always with my shoulder against the side pillar. Also only 2 seats and seatbelts in the back so no 3rd child allowed in the back. Stupid, I only want a simple electric family car for the city, guess I'm gonna need 2 cars now.

Ok this is better than I thought it would be. The Inster just edges it, but we need to see the brat pack up against each other - eC3, R5, Inster, Leap C03, and the Fat Panda head to head someday soon.

If Stelantis actually did with the new Panda as was with the original, removed all the silliness and the stuff that car-media reporters gets blinded by, keeping the car simple and effective as Giugiaro originally intended, this car could be a lot cheaper and most likely a lot more reliable.
And Stelantis and reliability is something that needs to improve.

I know it comes down to cost and trying to keep the prices down, however, I don't need a large car but do need probably a real-time range of 250 miles. I love this new Panda and had one years ago was a wee mountain goat and was just a great wee thing to throw about. Love the new Renault 5 too, sadly they just don't do enough real range miles, I wish they could do these smaller cars with larger ranges. Not everyone needs or wants a massive car or SUV, although may still do longer journeys than just pottering about the city.

The annoying thing is you don’t want a super tight modern car for the modern day road the roads especially in England are so bad you actually need a vehicle with a little bit of suspension. James May. Top Gear said the worst thing nowadays for Monday cars is a Nuberg ring Because everyone wants to go flat out everywhere but unfortunately life isn’t like that and especially in England the roads are so bad at the moment you need a vehicle with the business suspension is a bit big for my liking, I think the seat mii Volkswagen up all those that’s a size car I don’t want a big car. I just want a small car but one little do as a minimum 190 miles on a charge one you can use as a serious motor car and not just an ornament in your driveway Michael from England

If you have to hedge your bets because of global, developing market reasons just doing hybrid and EV and skipping plug in is a good approach. Better still if the hybrid is Nissan ePower, MG hyflbrod approach with the motor just being a generator so the car is EV designed first with the petrol tacked in after.

These manufacturers have got to sort out their EVs. A Huge market is via Motability in the UK, for drivers under 25 the cut off is cars under insurance group 21. Currently that means for EVs under 25s have a choice of Proace Verso, Berlingo, Combo Life - all essentially the same car, a Fiat 500 and a VW Mokka.
No they cant have a Dacia Spring thats group 22 (FFS!!) Similar with the e-C3 too.
Theres a massive market waiting to be tapped just get an EV at group 21 or under. It's ridiculous that you can have a 7 seater Combo but not the Dacia Spring for example.

Wonder if the suspension is stiffened in the model with the larger battery.

Better effort here than on their Jeep and Dodge EVs here in the US. Bring subcompacts back as EVs and it'll carve out a niche. Make the batteries easy to get to and the car easy to work on and mechanics will be much more willing to work on them as well.

Probably because the average driver only covers a fraction of that distance in normal use; The average American for example covers less than 50 miles *per day*.
That figure is lower almost everywhere else in the world; In the UK - the target demographic of this video - it's a mere 20 miles, for example.
I thought we'd already settled this argument: That range anxiety was just that; Anxiety, and not rooted in reality.
