  • Hello everyone, hope everyone is enjoying their summer! Here's a video from our visit to Eastern Pennsylvania where we visited Dave Weber and his Mojave Subdivision G Scale Tehachapi Loop. The layout (yes layout, Dave emphasizes this is a model railroad not a garden railroad) was built by Dave and his son TJ in their backyard behind their home. Let's just say I should have taken my hiking boots and mountain climbing gear to get some of the video I did lol.
In the video you'll see several trains working their way up and down the grades of the Mojave Subdivision and the Tehachapi Loop. Since there were several people visiting the layout (Myself and Kyle, you'll see him a few times lol) you'll see some motive power not customary to the region the layout models. You'll notice the track roadbed looks a little different than most outside layouts. The track sits on top of two-inch re-bar reinforced concrete to help eliminate a lot of the track maintenance. You'll see multiple tunnels and some scenery including zoyza grass and dwarf spruce trees pruned to look more like what you would find in the region. In general the scenery is barren with small amounts of vegetation since the Tehachapi range is mostly in the desert. Dave said this was part of his reason for modeling the Tehachapi Loop areas as it would save him from having to buy tons of trees and plants for this massive layout covering roughly 6,500 square feet.
Hope everyone enjoys the video! Please put your questions and feedback in the comments section.

Nice layout! Thanks for sharing your visit with us! Nice to see some others still using battery cars. If they're anything like me, I like to have a few internal battery locos and then the rest are power- dependent to save a little money.

Glad you enjoyed the layout and video! The owner of the layout runs all internal batteries. My friend and I that were visiting were using battery cars as we usually run fixed voltage track power.

G money lol. It was a challenging operating session. Probably 10% of the layout is level. The rest is all grades. By cool graffiti you must be talking about the Conrail boxcar Charlie Zimmerman did. He does amazing work!

@MrPictovid lol. I bet it was difficult. But it's worth the time! Watching the video. It is a nice boxcar. 🫵✌️

Great video, great railroad. Do you know what kind of ballast is used?

I'm not sure what he used for ballast in the areas he had it.

I would like to see the hole train.

I apologize, I didn't get video of the entire train in some shots. I was limited in the amount of time I had to spend their unfortunately and was trying to move around quickly. When I get a chance to go back and spend more time there I'll be sure to video the entire train.

    Wheres the BIG STEAM?

I don't think Dave that owns the layout has any steam. Perhaps when I go back in the future I'll bring along a steam locomotive to run there.
