I loved your review because you have been using Nikon for years. I barely jumped into this brand at the beginning of 2020. I started with a DSLR and wished I had gone with a Mirrorless to start. I like how Nikon spec'd their entry level cameras. I could have bought a d500 but unless I wish to continue using their older screw drive A/F lenses. I'll be moving myself to AF-S and Z mount lenses. Thank you for making this and you are a great presenter. God speed with your business.
Mark, my wish list for the Z7iii is similar to yours but I’d like to see it have the Z8/Z9 four-way flip screen. That would be the ideal camera for me. Fingers are crossed!
That would be nice, however, I don't believe it will happen as the current size of the camera is not big enough. Also, you have to think about the business model reasons to spend more money. LOL
@@markology Sadly, Mark, I think you are right. I reluctantly agree with you because it would be a lot easier and less costly to just use the Z6iii body; however, I believe the target market for the Z7iii would include landscape shooters, many of whom abhor the fully articulated screen of the Z6iii according to online comments. Also, if Fuji can put the four-way screen in the X-T5 and Sony can put the multi-way screen in the A7RV, then Nikon should be able to engineer a way to put the Z8 screen on the Z7iii. 🙂
Currently shooting a Z6....among others. Headed to a local camera store, today. Nikon reps making their semi-annual demonstrations. Thank you for your thoughtful analysis.
As someone who enjoys both landscape and wildlife, Get a z8 or not. I just got a z6III but decided to keep my beloved z7. I love the clean 45MP pared with the 64 ISO and great DR.
Mine is on order and should be here in a couple days, moving back to Nikon from Sony and excited for it and Nikons colour rendition. Thanks for the video Mark!
I pulled the trigger and upgraded to a 6-3 3 weeks ago and can honestly say I wish I did not wait any longer. It just works so well compared to my Z6/Z50. Now my choice is which one to sell of the two older ones. I think the Z50 is my favorite to have really small camera to carry and use for reach on my TELE work.
With the film industry in the toilet I’m back to shooting professionally and learning about modern gear. I’m still shooting D600 and I’m now looking into mirrorless for the fast autofocus and other features, even the ability to shoot raw video. This looks like the best body to upgrade to.
I had a D90 then a D750 then a new Z6,then I sold the Z6 and got a D780. I wanted to wait a few years to get a Nikon mirror less after shooting the first Z6...looks like Z6iii has really improved upon some things. I'm really interested in a Z6iii or a Z8!
Mark, thanks for the video. Subscribed and hope for more videos like this. Couple of questions: the limited DR of the camera with ISO less than 800 is being discussed on the internet - does it bother you for low light shooting and landscape? The auto ISO - would it be better to assign it to one of the function buttons to turn it on and off rather than using menus?
Hey Mark I really like your videos, May I know if I want a fullframe camera, should I buy z7ii now or wait for z7iii? and how long do you believe nikon will release Z7iii. Thanks!
I would wait for Z7III, perhaps the end of 2024, then you can choose Z7II or Z7III as an educated buyer, you will be able to buy a new Z7II at a reduced price, because dealers will be clearing stock.
The Z6iii would be a great update to the D750, If you're not a commercial photographer, where I would use the Z9, or perhaps you need a 2nd/3rd camera, then yes.
Ive watched every video on the Z6iii and depending on what the new Sony A7V will be like then ill make my decision. Im pretty sure the Sony is going to be very good.
A camera is a personal choice just like whether we drink beer, or wine or not, it's how we enjoy our photography and communicate our vision and art which is important and Enjoy
Interesting question. My viewpoint would be that the lens is the most important piece of equipment apart from the photographer. The palette, atmosphere and character that the lens gives are paramount to the photographer's vision. With the AFS and Manual F Mount lenses that I've used with the F2Z adapter. I've experienced no real problems, however the newer Z mount lenses are considerably sharper due to the advances in manufacturing and technology.
@@markologyThis is going to be a problem for me. My favorite lens (Nikkor 85mm 1.4D) doesn’t support AF on F2Z so I’m going to have to spend money on a replacement. The 1.8s looks very promising, but I’m considering just getting the 24-120 since I’m mainly shooting OCF and F4 is fine.
You may be right, however I do feel there is a spot in Nikon's lineup for a higher megapixel, with slower frame rate camera for landscape, studio photographers. I guess only time will tell
60 or 70 mp doesn't provide any real benefit and that is also true for 100 mp. The entire Purpose for Photography is to produce an image for Display and Human Eyesight is not that good. I happen to have 20/10 vision so I can see details most can't and I just can't see any difference between a print done with a 46mp camera and one from a 100mp image. Fact is that it's quite difficult to see the difference between 24mp and 46mp cameras when viewing a print. Note, I am talking "normal" viewing distance without using a magnifier. Basically the only benefit for higher resolution image files is for Pixel Peepers and for additional Crop space. BTW, I consider needing "crop space" as a bad habit, take the time to compose your image well and you don't need to do any cropping.
It makes a difference for archival work, art preservation, science related work, some kinds of macro shooting, etc. Mostly for cropping to see the details.
True, and yet: 1. everyone pixelpeeps, including your grandma: watch how people view photos on their (high res) viewing devices (phones, tablets, etc). One first look at the whole image, and immediate gestures to squeeze into details (the eyes, the faces, the clothing labels, the wrinkles, the flowers, the junk in the background, etc, etc). It has become a habit, an automatic behaviour, across generations and cultures. More MP means more and better details to dive into. In that scenario, 45MP has become an expectation (including from phone cameras). If you shoot exactly the same scene (identical subject, pose, light, composition, etc) with a Z6 and a GFX100, the 100MP image will generate more applause from more people. Even from grandma. 2. For the large poster picture on a wall, you are right, 24MP is more than enough. But the ability to crop can transform a meh picture into a stunning one. Why not "cheat" and benefit from the ability to fix composition in post when the shooting conditions and the lens on the camera did not allow the perfect framing when you triggered the shutter? There again, 45 or 60 or 100 MP beat 24MP.
Nikon is currently working on an 1-inch 17 M pixel 1000 fps Block-Controlled Coded Exposure Back-Illuminated Stacked CMOS Image Sensor for Computational Imaging and Adaptive Dynamic Range Control, www.nikon.com/company/technology/nrr/pdf/nrr_vol4_2022_10_e.pdf Which if made into a 35mm sensor would be 100mb 5-15 FPS camera, Z7III???

One question to ask Z50II as it's due soon, sell both Z6 and Z50

Two totally different camera, Z6iii low light, video and faster action, Z8, larger pixel count, better sensor, baby Z9
Totally agree with buying from the local camera shop instead of online
I only buy online from reputable retailers where the price difference is just too vast
Thanks for sharing. This is my next camera.
Good choice!
Hello! Have you tried using the Z63 for astro photography yet? And if you have, could you share some of the images, please?
Yes, just back from trip, will publish soon
Very nice review.
Thank you! Cheers!
Great video , thumbs up

I’m tempted to buy the 6iii but I’ll wait a bit longer for the 7iii.

7:53 how do you takes these off?
after removing the black cover which just picks off, you are left with a triangle split ring, which you split and rotate over the lug and it pops off.

Stuck between the z6iii and the z8. I'm thinking of upgrading from my d7500.
How do you find it for tracking birds in flight.
Do you have long glass, 600mm+ if so Z6iii I feel it has better focusing, if your cropping, then Z8, for pixels
Do you recommend the Z6iii for sports? I'm currently shooting high school sports with a D750.

thank you, yes the Z6, Z6ii and Z8, plus Z9 all have voice meno
Thank you, but for my work I don’t see any reason to update from my Z6 mk1… I rather buy glass
buying glass totally agree
I just wish they didn't cripple the controls compared to the Z8. Give us "Recall Shooting Functions" and "Cycle AF-area mode".
