Thank you for this evaluation. I've been weighing up the "next tool" purchase quite heavily. All are vastly different and have their place in the shop. For instance, I'm looking at the Makita track saw, the Festool domino, or the Makita biscuit joiner. As I say each has its own unique purpose, but just starting out - I seriously cannot justify the price of the Domino. For that matter alone I'm relying on dowel joinery at the moment (time-consuming - YES !! for sure), but it works. I've just been wanting to speed up my process a little with certain joinery and truthfully would like to automate that process a little. As a new startup single person woodworker, im truly grateful for this totally honest review without trying to outsell the one over the other - Thank you

Hi Brendon, its my pleasure. Dowels are a great solution for joinery, and will serve you well. Part of what I had hoped to convey is that I think for most woodworkers, the biscuit will be much more favored then a domino because there are a lot of solutions available for structural joinery, and not only is the biscuit joiner less expensive as a tool, but also the biscuits are FAR more affordable than dominos are. For the most part on track saws, I use mine to break down sheet goods to rough dimension, and then clean up to final on my table saw. Makes the parts much more easy to handle/move around. A good track saw with a quality 90 degree jig, ( I use TSO products rail attachment) can allow you to make precise final cuts with just a track saw.
Best wishes for your woodworking journey, and if you care to while you're here, please feel free to subscribe to see more future content! Thanks, and have a great day!

    Thanks for the comparison.
Good to know, that each tool has slightly differing applications to exploit what they are supposed to do.
I was wondering, hearing about domino, just how and why its different to a biscuit joiner, and your video answered this, as i am sure many others had that question too.

I must give you credit for a truthful review. Most youtube channels just bash the biscuit joiner for no reason. The biscuit is faster, easier and cheaper there is still place for the domino in some applications it is supereir but I don't understand the fan boy stuff.

Hi Hmmmmm, I’m a simple guy, I like the right tool for the job, and don’t care what brand it is. My biscuit joiner gets used more than my domino for panel and table top builds. The domino has a place for structural stuff. Thanks for watching and commenting, I appreciate it! Consider subscribing please if you like, and thought there was value

    very down to earth comparison
for the structural strength, don;t forget we have good old dowels,, and yes there are some doweling machines similar to the domino function, they just use dowels, which we can make ourselves as well.
or we can make or buy self centering doweling jig, and then it is of course slower than the tolls you demonstrated, but it might be an option for some people.

You’re 100% right, dowels are great for joinery and have been around for ages! Thanks for checking this out Tiger

Use my biscuit jointer very often, more often than I think I would use the festool. Great video sir

Festoon make some great products but, there plunge router and this domino joiner are way, way too expensive! I have wood worked for over 50 years and I’ve used the biscuit joiner and can’t think of a situation where it wouldn’t work. Another big advantage is that the biscuit can be used in thinner wood than the domino cutter. If you are joining very thick stock then use dowels again far cheaper than the Festool product. For 99% of the time for the vast majority of the wood workers don’t need the domino/Festool. Save a pile of money and go with the Makita!!!

You’re 100% right, dowels are quite strong and biscuits are great for alignment. If you have the patience, true mortise and tenon joinery is probably the strongest as well, but costs time. Thanks for watching and if you care to while you’re here, please feel free to subscribe!

The domino can easily be used for thin stock with the 5mm or even 4mm cutter. The only real reason i can think off not using the domino (if you’ve got both) is the pricetag: like you said, biscuits are way cheaper.

Looking to buy a biscuit jointer and really couldn't justify the price of lamello. Is makita as good? how about porter cable one. I am also interested in the lamello clamex S connectors for knock down furniture. I wonder if the groove cut by regular biscuit jointer would fit. Any insights would be appreciated. I already have the Domino 700 and love it.

    • @TradeSkillersAnonymous
      @TradeSkillersAnonymous  Год назад +1

Hey there. Lamello is definitely a big step up in quality and capability. I don’t believe you can use their clamex with any other biscuit cutters, but maybe search around a little, there could be a work around that I’m not aware of. Since you have the domino, you can use their knock down connectors, they work really well. The makita runs well, I don’t think it’s much better than dewalt or any other major tool companies. I’d steer away from the very low end models as many people say that the fences are rarely square. Thanks for watching and consider subscribing while you’re here if you haven’t. Thanks and have a good one!

@@TradeSkillersAnonymous I think there is a difference between lamello connector vs festool not many people think of. The festool anchors are not meant to be taken off reuse unless you cut open the furniture piece. The lamello connectors can be easily taken off and put back in. Not saying this is super important, I think it matters only in some niche situation.

Your Makita biscuit joiner slot is pretty loose. You might need to calibrate it. Mine is super tight I have to use pliers to pull them out.
There are lots of new woodworker roughly around your age giving bad bias advice . You on the other hand are not in that category.
