I've had issues with my A/C vent modes not working for years and finally decided to fix it!
I realize I'm calling the Motor Assembly Mode a Heater Air Blend Door Actuator; I'm not sure if that's the correct name for it. Nonetheless, if you need the part, you can find them here:

I hope this helps anyone else having the same issue!

I used this guide to replace this actuator with OEM Honda one for about $70 in my 2010 Civic. Figured it lasted almost 14+ years it's worth the investment for OEM Honda Part. The top screw of the actuator and the bottom screw of the vent pipe was the most difficult, but overall if you take your time it's easy to do. Also with the old part out, I plugged in the new part and match the orientation of the old one before putting back in with fresh lithium grease. Good Video!
@@GoofytekSF I’m glad to help! 🙌🏽
Great, way better than most of videos similar to it.
I used a 1/2" ratchet since it had a much much longer handle, and an adapter to attach the 7mm bit, which is a 1/4" socket, to it, which made reaching up to get that top screw on the motor *much* easier.
Anyone seeing this: note that the motor you buy might not come with the big plastic actuator, that's ok!! The old one can easily transfer to the new motor. There's 3 screws that remove the metal mount, and there's a little tab on the actuator you can press with a screwdriver and the actuator will pull right off the axle, then pull the metal mount off, install on new motor (make sure you keep the same orientation!) And install actuator on new motor.
Thank you - following your video, I was able to replace the air blend door actuator. Part cost $27 on ebay.
The other video I watched did not mention setting the defrost and getting the actuator aligned - appreciate you mentioning that. The worst part was getting to the screw at the top of the actuator unit; rest was not too difficult.
@@user-ee7fs8xq4h No problem, I’m glad I could help! 🙌🏽
Just removed the actuator, the top screw was tough but got it eventually..Tomorrow I install new one. Thanks again.
thank you! had the vents blowing at my feet for about 6 months before i decided to look into the problem haha
literally having same problem, when it rains everything gets fogged up and i can’t get any air to blow anywhere other than the feet, i’m guessing this is the problem?
Thanks so much for a very helpful video! For anyone working on a 2008 Civic, the third screw holding the large black plastic vent piece is in a slightly different location than shown here for a 2010. It's in a more challenging area to reach. Definitely recommend a ratchet and a pair of small hands to make this job much easier. A screwdriver and clumsy, fat fingers make this job take twice as long and much more profane😄
My pleasure! I'm glad I could help! And I agree, smaller hands are a plus lol
The best video for replacing the mode motor! Super helpful. Thanks!!
Thank you so much for this video! It was EXTREMELY helpful and I appreciate you taking your time and being clear on each step. Also appreciate your clear camera angles! Awesome video and this will for sure save me money having to pay someone.
I'm glad I could help! :D
I just finished fixing it! Soooo grateful for you! Many blessings!
@@lady2cherish that’s awesome! 😁 I’m so glad you were able to save some cash! And it was my pleasure to help out. If you run into anymore car troubles, let me know.
@@lady2cherish how is it 3 months laterv
@@ismaelcuadrarivera6991 Still blowing like a charm in this blazing heat! I still feel so grateful for this video when i feel the cool air! Now I hope i can pass on this knowledge to someone else in need!
Thank you so much for doing this video. Today I tried to remove my actuator but could not get to the screws to remove them, so I gave up. I have a new actuator coming tomorrow, so I tried to save myself some time. So, anyway, you showed us how to remove that black vent horn (whatever the name is) and that gave more access to the screws to remove them. I will do it your way tomorrow, and many thanks again for showing us the way. God Bless.
I'm glad I could help! I hope the install went well and everything works again!
straight and to the point! thanks for the product links as well.
Good work, very helpful! I might add that a lot of replacements these days wont come with that white ear shaped bracket(except for maybe the factory part) so make sure you save that and the metal mounting bracket. Also a flex extension and low profile hand ratchet may make this job easier. Also follow what he says and plug in the unit and turn the key on and select a couple modes before installing(front facing vents only Mode seems to be the default when the motor is shipped) the motor will synch up and make it easier to line up the tracks and mount the assembly.
Is it easy enough to remove the bracket and ear shaped thing and swap to a new actuator? I'm looking to buy one asap, and the complete ones will take too long to ship, but the stripped down one ships quickly. Thank you in advance.
@@ViewtifulVash the bracket is only held to the motor with 3 screws, and the cam thing is just pressed on. very easy.
@@hentaihero2201 Thank you Hentai Hero-San
@@ViewtifulVash Yep, about 3 or 4 Philips screws hold the metal bracket. and the plastic piece is held on with a locking tab on the shaft.
Great video. Have this exact problem and now I know how to fix it. Thank you. 👊
THANK YOU!!!!!! I had your video on my iPad as I was doing this step by step. Worked like a charm!
I’m glad it helped! 🤗
Ahhhh, thanks for this.
Seriously was wondering why my civic is only blowing on feet defrost
Bro skipped the hardest part, those screws lmaoo
That one screw was a pain in the butt! Would’ve taken me 20 minutes to film that lol 😂
@@MarcusFerguson16❤ ❤❤❤❤❤ ❤ I don’t know what to do with myself
Thank you for making this video, it saved me a lot of money. I will add that it is a hassle trying to get all those screws holding the unit into place, but I found it easier to work from the driver side to get leverage to work with the screws. I think that's a better approach 😀.
Thank you sir! Picked up an 09 civic as a daily and it had a blend door actuator issue. Swapped it out and good as new 👍 On the 09 once the new one is plugged in, I had to turn the vent to blow out the front for it to line back up on the tracks. So anyone swapping a 2009 actuator just keep that in mind
Glad I could help! 🙏🏽
Thank you very much - you made this very straightforward and saved me a lot of money ... I appreciate it!
I'm glad I could help!
Thank man!!! I just manually turned it a little bit and it switched. I was burning up it hot 🔥
Thanks bro. You just saved me serious money. I was about to take to the dealership. Bought this car from my cousin and vents work fine just won’t go to feet or defrost. Followed this and now it works just fine
No problem! Glad I could help! 🙏🏽
Thanks man. Got mine working again. Didnt even bother installing the bottom screw lol
I don't blame you! lol that screw was annoying
Extensions and swivels make this job a breeze but good on you for doing it yourself with what you got!
That’s good to know, thank you, it was tough by myself!
Thanks for this wonderful video. i have question? if heater throw hot air on driver and relatively cold air on passenger side.. do we need to replace this actuator also?? because i have this problem in my car. but vent mods are working fine.. just problem with hot air.. let me know
I opened up the glove box and just used my fingers to manually rotate the white piece and it started working again! May not be a permanent fix, but its something to try if youre really in a pinch.
Tried it on my 2009 Civic! Thanks for the help
I’m glad I could help! 🙌🏽
Thanks Bro great detailed video
Thanks bro. This video makes it look easier than others I seen. I appreciate it.

Great job Marcus, I appreciate the video !
Thank you! I’m glad I could help 🙏🏽
I have a 94 Toyota Camry XLE . Still trying to figure out witch actuator changes the vent settings.I think it's the one on the driver's side.Really bad location,I can't fit under the dash.I want to just manually move the setting I'll replace the part later.
Thanks Marcus, i think you helped me a lot trying to figure out why my honda civic 2010 blows air everywhere except onto the windshield to defrost it, it is that actuator gizmo!🙏✌you're a Godsend!!!
I appreciate those kind words! 🙏🏽 I’m glad I could help!
Awesome job. Thanks
No problem!

Thanks, finished the job with the excellent video

Well you did it again - great vid. You almost made me want to go out and break my AC/Heat vent so I could fix it like you did. NOT! --- just kidding! You do have a talent for making instructional videos though. I really enjoy watching 'em .... thanks!
Thank you so much! That means a lot to me! I will continue to make more, I have one on the way. Should be posted next week :D
Great video. Thank you
No problem! Glad I could help.
U didn't mention about getting codes for vent controls,u hold 2 buttons down then turn key on it blinks codes
Can you make a video about replacing the visor? My driver side on my 2010 DX needs replacing.
Yeah I can do that! I’ve had to replace both of mine
Mine too! Damn hondas man 🤦🏾♀️
Great video!! Thanks for posting!
No problem!
good video
Nice video
That’s a 400 dollar fix. Dealership quoted me that. I bought the part from Napa parts for 20 dollars vs OEM which was like 100. The guy at Napa said they just use different parts then OEM. Napa parts has never let me down.
Let’s go! Glad you saved a lot of money!
You can get OEM part from scrap yard ...
Thats what I was thinking for dealership quote. It's so nice to have youtube!!!
Man thank you so much I been fight this shit for a month…
No problem! I’m glad I could help!
Hello,
I have an odd noise from my dashboard Civic 2011.
I thought it was from the AC Vent Motor and to check I unplugged the servo motor green plug. But notice continued and unfortunately, it didn't the servo motor noise. The noise is heard from the center of the dashboard from inside. It is heard when the air-conditioner is off and on. PLEASE HELP.
Thank you Honda for making repairs on our cars more complicated and our lives more miserable!
Lets go!! Does putting the wax from the old one crucial ? Or is putting some white lithium grease enough? Thank you 🙏 great instructional video!
No, putting wax from the old one is not crucial. I did that because I didn’t have any on me. Yeah, using lithium grease should work just fine! And of course, I’m glad I could help 🙏🏽
@@MarcusFerguson16 awesome. Gonna fix this thing tomorrow, ✌️ wish luck lol
Thank you bruh for real
No problem!
Hey! I have a 2010 Honda civic and I noticed ur radio looks like an aftermarket one. Did you get a different piece for the dash so that would fit in? I want to get a radio like yours. Also this video saved my life because I couldn’t figure out why the air wouldn’t come out out of my dash vents. But any help on the radio etc, is greatly appreciated!
Hey! I’m glad I could help.
This is the aftermarket radio I have: www.crutchfield.com/S-g6dUtX7xMU5/p_158XAV1000/Sony-XAV-AX1000.html
Excelent video
For me the when i have it on cold it blow hot air i replaced the ac condenser fan because that wasn't working but nothing with the actuator moves when i move the temperature.
Right! The actuator should only move when you change the air flow location (feet, face, windshield, etc.)
My air blows out warm sometimes too, idk if it’s because I live in the desert or what, but it’s something I’m looking into
Thanks, I love youtube university, you saved me a grip!
Best university out there! And I’m glad I could help!
I followed all the steps and fixed it and it’s working and blowing cold only thing I can’t figure out now is that my air is blowing on my vents on each side closest to the window but not the 2 next to the radio. And if it’s sets to only front vents it goes to the defroster as well. Did I not level it right into the little pegs? Help!
I'm glad that your air is blowing cold. Let me do some research on the other issue and I'll get back to you!
Is there a fuse that could cause the problem or the turn knob may not be good on a 2003 Honda crv. Or it's just best to test that motor and change it. Thank you.
So I'm actually having problems right now with my temperature control. When I turn it cold it will sometimes become hot and vice versa. So in that case I think it is a problem with the heater assembly control. However, if you're only having problems with the A/C vent modes, I would start with changing the heater air blend mode actuator. I hope that helps.
love it love it
I just fixed the motor my self and it started working.today when i started it the horn wouldn’t work is there any connection present there that might be loose ?please help!
Not that I’m aware of. I would check the fuse/relay for the horn first. ruclips.net/video/IlG51E7LCDI/видео.htmlsi=zwGlgT6tyWOXL21B
How you line up the tracks is wrong at least for Civic 2009. The actuator should be set to FRONT (which is the default position when you get it from the seller). The top notch goes into the LONGER track and the bottom goes into the SHORTER track.
I followed what you said and could not figure out how you were able to put the top one in the shorter track and the bottom one into the longer track even when the position is at defrost.
Bro seriously thank you for this. It's clearly supposed to fit from the front position. I had the same problem and only tried swapping to front after reading this comment. Saved me a ton of headache.
I thought the blend door actuator only switches from hot to cold. Don’t you need to change the mode door actuator?
I believe it’s actually called the Motor Assembly Mode.
Does this work on the 2010 Honda Civic model? It looks like the exact setup.
Yes, this is for a 2010 Honda Civic.
Should be the same for '06-'11
How long was the total repair time? Start to finish
@@davidmally4988 I can’t remember exactly, but less than two hours for sure!
Thank you for the video! Part went out last summer, I finally decided to replace when it’s already hot in Arizona. A bit tricky sliding the part onto the original spot
the 2 right botton buttons u hold them
Good bro
Hey man. I have an issue with hot cold knob. It's like the door is stuck in the middle. Do you know if this actuator makes the hot cold selector work?
I believe the actuator does control the temperatures, but it sounds like the knob might just need to be replaced. Are you saying that you can’t turn it to change the temperature?
@@MarcusFerguson16 I meant that when I turn the knob I don't get hot or cold. It's like the blend door is stuck in the middle. It won't close off to cool the car or open up to warm the car. Not have issues with turning the kbob back and forth. The old days the blend door worked with a bicycle brake cable. Now it's done by this actuator motor
What head unit did you install?
It's the Sony XAV-AX1000
www.crutchfield.com/p_158XAV1000/Sony-XAV-AX1000.html
OEM part was like $180. I got one at Autozone for like $50. OEM is better, but damn, 3x the price? I don’t think so
Oh yeah that’s way too much!
Next time go to scrap yard...
Thank you for the video now I don't have to pay the dealer the 1k to fix mine
You’re more than welcome! I’m glad I could help 🙌🏽
What if only the feet works and no air comes out of the face vent?
Are you still experiencing this issue after replacing the part?
Sidenote, Which Sony Radio is that?
It's the Sony XAV-AX1000
