Hansel & Gretel Opening (Metropolitan Opera, 2008)-Alice Coote & Christine Schäfer

It's that time of year again. Although I must say I associate this opera with Halloween more than Christmas--it just has that delightfully spoopy feel. But during the dark days of COVID the Met always aired this around Christmas so it comes into my mind right about now. This production has nothing on the 1982 Merril & O'Hearn production, but it's still delightful and emotional and the cast is wonderful. Alice Coote always steals the show (and my heart) and the sibling dynamic here is practically unbeatable.
