  • 4WD Service: A quick clip on how I service my 4WD and replacement of the Fuel Filter, Air Filter, Oil and Oil Filter. The vehicle is a TD42t Nissan Patrol, but the process will be similar for pretty much any non-common rail diesel (e.g. Land Cruisers, Hiluxes, Pajero's).

Air, oil and fuel I write the date on the part with a paint pen. Also batteries when installing a new one. Helps you remember when last done and how long it lasted. Infact, most parts get this treatment..... I have a ZD30 and with an engraver mark the oil filter... just a thing i've done over 35 years of working on cars.

When changing the oil I usually cover all the parts underneath and around the engine bay with cloth to minimise the oil spill. Because it's not much room to tilt the filter upwards and lots of it comes down on the parts

Very helpful! Thank you. Where / how can I get a Nissan Patrol Y61 book/PDF which gives all the Original Equipment Numbers (OENs) for my vehicle to match spare parts when I need to? Thanks

Thank you for posting this. Probably next year I'll be looking for a patrol. Not sure what year yet, or even if I can find one that crazy people havent wrecked yet. Excellent post. If you could offer any advice as to what to look for in this older vehicle by way of problems, I would be very grateful. Peace and thanks

You should lubricate it with the fuel not oil

    What about the petrol version?

    1. dont use water with engines with alloy heads! corrosion will happen!
    2. if you do use water.....dont use tap water. only us demineralized water because tap water is "dirty" with minerals and not good for a car
