The Yankees made it to the WS in spite of their manager, not because of him. In April they were on pace for 110 wins, only to barely win their division in the stretch. Sloppy play and luck of the draw in the ALDS & ALCS, and their in the fall classic. But again, they did not show up to play as a team. Soto & Stanton showed up, and everyone else was meh or an automatic out.
If preparation and mental toughness are not the responsibility of the manager, I don't know what is. I do know it's why Soto will be wearing a Met's uniform next year.

It comes down to the manager. He is at fault and should be fired, if they have terriblebase running, if they have terrible habits in the infield, if the outfielders can’t catch a routinefly ball, that’s because they’re not going hard during practice and he’s not getting them prepped, in order to be a good base runner you gotta are be practicing sprints, practicing hitting the bases and cutting to the left, the fact that these guys looked like little league players making mistakes. That’s all on the manager, which is why he needs to be fired.
