      I think a lot more people get it than you think, don't forget that this series is heavily edited to appeal a larger audience. They probably cut out the "normal people" so that Chef Ramsay looks like a bigger hero when he helps them.

      These owners don't understand what is wrong with their restaurants. They are stupid and proud. They invite him thinking that the food is the shit and that Gordon is just going to give a quick look around, move one or two tables, maybe change one or two things in the menu, and people will flood the restaurant.

      Well since I assume hummus is used for alot of dishes it's quite important. For an example I'm swedish and we have potatoes in almost all dishes. While if you think traditional Swede food is perhaps meatballs, not potatoes. The side"food" is just as important as the main dish.

      +stoffni Fun fact: Sweden did not invent meatballs. There are Greek meatballs too, with onion, bread and parsley.

    • @stoffni
      @stoffni 8 лет назад +5

      Aris Theocharis Well aware of that :P
      Meatballs has existed basically in every single civilization known to man.
      Earliest known meatball dish is from China and even been seen in arabic cookbooks.
      That being said, Sweden has taken the throne of meatballs! It won the Meatball Of Thrones.
      All meatballs are now subjects to the throne of meatballSweden.
      That being said, it still does not feel alright to go to a greek restaurant and get served meatballs x_X.
      You want typical greek dishes like moussaka... not meatballs. I can go to IKEA for that.

    • @someonesomewhere6633
      @someonesomewhere6633 8 лет назад +11

      stoffni Meatballs *are* a typical everyday authentic Greek dish called "keftedakia/keftedes" (small round meatballs) or "mpiftekia" (flat burger-sized meatballs). For example, this was a staple food for Greeks travelling by train. My mother has told me funny stories about how all the passengers in the car were carrying meatballs during long distance travelling and when they opened their lunch boxes the whole car would smell of cold meatballs (which was not very pleasant as you can imagine)! There are even certain Greek soups that feature meatballs, such as "Youvarlakia Avgolemono", a dish that my grandma used to make every time we visited for the holidays. You can't get more Greek than that. Keftedakia/mpiftekia is a popular Greek dish, especially at parties and gatherings as finger food, just like pastitsio and moussaka, and it is what Greeks may typically eat at a restaurant or tavern. Also, Greek meatballs taste totally different than Swedish meatballs. Meatballs are a part of modern Greek cuisine culture. If you can't accept that fact, then maybe Greek food isn't your cup of tea.
      P.S. This is the reason why I said "Damn tourism". "Damn pop culture" might be more appropriate though. Because of tourism, movies and anecdotes have foreigners thinking that Greeks eat lamb everyday or that moussaka/souvlaki is our national dish (which is not, Greece's national dish is "fasolada"-white bean soup) and other weird stuff. You have been misguided and if you've only been to Greek restaurants outside of Greece, then you have no idea what real Greek food is like. Just like what happened with Chinese food; it is not authentic outside of China, but tweaked and -ized to suit foreigner's tastes.

    • @bensmith5064
      @bensmith5064 8 лет назад +3

      +HeyImReo because the hidden fact is Australia has the largest Greek population OUTSIDE of Athens, not outside of Greece, but outside of Athen's itself meaning Australia has more Greek population than the rest of Greece itself. Which is why greek restaurants in Australia are the best Greek Restaurants outside of greece. All about demographics.

    • @panayiotisyannopoulos2668
      @panayiotisyannopoulos2668 5 лет назад

      ben Smith actually what matters is that Australian Greeks are more recent immigrants. When you integrate in a place you are educated in a way, changing your tastes to their tastes in total. I mean when in USA I found all a scale up greasier than Europe. Even the bread at a market was sweet.
      I think the limits of use of sugar and salt and other cheap artificial flavor adding ingredients must be way above Europe and they teach Americans from young age to a big greasiness. Because they are addictive. It’s how our brain recognized back in the day a good source of food. When sugar was not artificially added
