That 500 Réis coin from my beloved Portugal is indeed one of the most beautiful we have! And we made it with the odd percentage of .917, don't now much more like this. You're lucky you got one! Keep collecting!

This is my favorite thing to collect... I will always buy American silver coins at the right price, but the collectors are less insane when it comes to world coins and I have yet to not sell anything silver whenever I want to move on to something else. I am particularly enamored by British Commonwealth silver coins. There was an estate sale a while back where the lady was telling me "yeah but these are just foreign" lol. Turned out to be somewhere in the neighborhood of 40 or 50 silver coins for a grand total of $10 lol (and this was back when silver was $30/ounce). Also found a great haul at a pawn shop a few years back where I spent a full $10 again and got 5 for a dollar silver coins, most of which were half dollar sized silver coins. You can find some really great deals if you know what you are looking for.

20 years ago a lot of dealers didn't bother to sort silver out of their world coin boxes. I wish I had taken advantage of it more.

I also like the Latvia 5 Lati coins. Big, chunky silver with beautiful details. One of the prettiest coins ever made. I have the 1929, 1931and 1932.

The term bullion is generally referring to more modern coins that are made specifically for their precious metal content like gold and silver eagles.

What's the oldest coin you have?

I have a Chinese 1 cash coin that is from some time between 1747 and 1796, that is the oldest.
