Some very nice pieces, I have a 1797 cartwheel 2d too, of interest it weighed 2oz of Copper and was also an official coin weight. They were minted by Mathew Boulton in Birmingham using Watt's steam power.

Nice collection!! As a Brit, I think its great to see people from "the other side of the pond" taking an interest in UK coins. Here's a random fact for you. After decimalisation in 1971, some pre-decimal coins continued to be used for quite a number of years albeit with a different face value. Shillings, which were worth 12 pence before decimalisation, were given a value of five "new pence", florins could be used a ten pence coins and crowns had a value of 25 "new pence".

Silver Supplement, that was very nice of CCT to include such amazing coins as a gift! This is a great start to your collection. I especially love the Crowns! I'm a great fan of the Crowns and I can't wait to add some to my collection. Congrats on the great start! Cheers!

Great stuff mate, I love the old coins from the UK and really all of the coins you showed in this video are fantastic.
Just some interesting general info for those who are interested:
    > UK Coins went from Sterling Silver (92.5%) to 50% Silver in 1920, and they stopped using silver altogether in their circulated coinage in 1946.
    > South African Coins were Sterling SIlver until 1923. They then moved to 80% Silver Coinage (1923-1950), and from 1951 their pre-decimal coinage was 50% SIlver. In 1961 they moved to the Rand.
1964 Bermuda Crown is 50% SIlver
The 10 Franc coin is 90% SIlver
Spanish 100 Pesetas is 80% Silver
Irish Florin from 1940 is 75% Silver
I always find it fascinating how they're all different...
    :o)
Of course the coins you showed in this video are all in fantastic condition, basically meaning they're worth way (way) more than their melt values.
    Thanks for sharing.

Well said, and it saves me telling Supplement next time we chat. Lol.
The British percentage are quite easy to remember pre 20 =.925 and pre 47=50%, those figures just seem to stick in your head.

    • @MasterOfCoinage
      @MasterOfCoinage 7 лет назад +1

I always thought it was interesting how they stopped using silver in the UK before they stopped in Australia (and everywhere else really).
      Here it's pre 46 = .925 and all pre-decimal coinage up to 1965 = 50%.
There's the odd 50 cent piece from 1966 that was 80%, but they quickly realized the math wasn't going to work with that one. :-p
I guess in the UK they must have "figured it out" before everyone else.

Beautiful selection of coins there, my friend. You're absolutely right about CCT; he is a true gentleman. @@silversupplement The spelling Britannia is correct, and is on all the George 111 coins plus William 1V and Victoria, From Edward V11 onwards Britannia is abbreviated to BRITT : OMN: REX etc.

Awesome stuff from CCT. I really like the 1915 half crown. I own a half crown from 1820, mine is really worn. The 1935 crown is commonly referred to as the "Rocking Horse" crown. I love the history behind the cartwheel pennies. Cartwheel pennies are first coins to be produced with steam powered presses. The original cartwheel pennies were not produced by the Royal Mint. Instead a private mint produced them, the Birmingham Mint. That Hercules franc is beautiful. If you have time, please check out my latest vid!
