When I saw the headline I thought maybe the video would be about importing an STL mesh into FreeCAD, converting it to a solid Part, and then using that as a base shape for a PartDesign body. That might make for an interesting video.

While the title of the video is quite clickbaity (you are drawing a part, while looking at an stl, instead of making a model from the stl), still a good demonstration.

      Thank you.
Did you watch the part where I regenerate the curvature from the face of the STL?

Have they fixed the topological naming problem in mainline yet? ( I'm waiting for that fix before trying to use freecad anymore)

Not quite in the mainline release. I think there's a branch you can download that addresses this issue, but when I tried it, it still failed at some basic changes. I've pretty much given up on face mapping and I put all my sketches on planes (either base planes, or custom plane) that I move according to a spreadsheet of values that form the parameters of my model. That way I can change any dimension and it rarely breaks anything. Takes a bit longer but very much worth it, especially for the things I model.

@@tmlf1239 I like that idea. Any tips on where to look to become better with spreadsheets?

@@fltchr4449 Maybe ruclips.net/video/b07qbhYHZbU/видео.html or ruclips.net/video/1FOjPLIJOMM/видео.html. The important thing is to realize that any place you can put in a number can be replaced with an expression that can refer to a spreadsheet. So even the placement coordinates of a sketch or plane (the Model tab of then combo view). so any of an object's parameters can refer to a spreadsheet. Position, rotation, depth of an extrude or cut, etc.

@@tmlf1239 are you saying sketching on a planar surface is buggy so the work around is to stick to sketches on actual planes
