  • Lead Singer/Songwriter for Trooper Ra McGuire, came back to the boom 97.3 studios to play "We're Here For A Good Time" on vinyl! Ra talks about how the band's driver came up with the name of the song, how they recorded the song and lastly how Michael Bublé almost recorded a cover of the song! All that and more as Ra goes Behind The Vinyl!

Always loved this song since it came out back in the 70's. Fast forward to my niece's wedding in 2011, and this song was played. I've never seen such a stampede of people run to the dance floor! The song that connects all people! Kudos to McGuire for having such an amazing voice and for creating a song that lives on for generations to enjoy!

What an injustice that the guys who wrote this ever had to work a day in their life again. One of the catchiest tunes ever recorded.

    Wow this is so awesome.
My parents owned our home on 5th Ave in Kitsilano; they also owned and rented suites in a home on Cornwall Ave just across the street from Kits Beach and the log Ra speaks of.
Ra and his wife Debbie lived in that house.
And I too would walk to the beach, and sit or lay on that log, and think or pray or write.
I was probably around 11; the year about ‘76?
My sister and I were in a Figure Skating production that Ra’s wife made our outfits.
    Cool.
I love this song and this Band. And Mr. Maguire looks super great. 😎

Lived on 7th ave in Kits in '75. Know that log well. This song was my late sisters theme song. We play it every year on her birthday... July 1st

Always remember this tune playing in the bit on 22 Minutes when Rick Mercer visited our troops in Bosnia. Perfect song for the moment.

Ra, you are engrained in our brains. Thank you for being Canadian. My uncle had "Knock 'Em Dead, Kid" and we didn't know what hit us....

Saw this band a 1000 times at Rock N Roll Heaven in the 80's and 90's and was ALWAYS fully and completely entertained... Loved seeing Trooper in such a small venue, even became 'sort-of' friends with Ray...

GREAT SONG! On not being on the Buble album... Maybe Ra should have offered to have them write the third verse with him, that actually may have been an opportunity to collaborate. I heard that some megastars will be more inclined to record your song if they get to add themselves to the publishing rights. A songwriter told me pre-mp3 era that even the non-hit songs on a Celine Dion album might generate six figures for the songwriter.

Ra McGuire; u r equally as underr8d as Ian Thomas. U (along w/ur Trooper bandm8s) have provided some of the BEST FUCKIN' JAMS from ANTWHERE on this fuckin' planet. Not only do u ""Raise A Little Hell" but "We're Here For A Good Time (Not A Long Time)". Also, we have "2 (4) The Show", "The Boys In The Bright White Sports Car", & "3 Dressed Up As A 9" (my FAVORITE Trooper song; especially 4 the message behind this particular song). Ra McGuire; consider urself as ENTERTAINMENT ROYALTY (along w/Rick Moranis & The Thomas Brothers--Dave & Ian).

@@BitterSweetBarb U betcha, Barb!!!! I aim 2 please. BTW; my 56th b-day's coming up on Thursday (7/20). Also; I'm from Detroit, MI, USA (a stone's throw away from Windsor, ONT, CAN) but I've always had an affinity 4 Canadian musicians (Ian Thomas, TGW/BTO, the recently deceased Gordon Lightfoot, Pat Travers Band, Max Webster/Kim Mitchell, & Trooper/Ra McGuire amongst notables but not just limited 2 them). Just like GTLees commented; "old" has a negative connotation 2 it. Hence; y I prefer CLASSIC!!!!! Thanks 4 the reply.

I c similarities btwn Ra McGuire & Ian Thomas. These MFin' legends (the members of Trooper; particularly Ra McGuire), along w/Ian Thomas & Rik Emmitt) would make ANY1 B PROUD 2 B CANADIAN!!!!! Though I'm American-born (from. Detroit, MI); my CANADIAN MUSICIANS KEEP IT TRIED & TRUE!!!!! There4; my MUSICAL ALLIANCE WILL ALWAYS B W/CANADA!!!!!
