  • Welcome back to Pro Shop. In this video I fabricate a new tailgate skin and customise a handle and latching mechanism from a VS Commodore ute to fit into the EH's tailgate frame. There is still more to do but I have to finish the hard lid which will be in an upcoming video.

I think Boyd Coddington once said “it’s a lot of work for something 98% of people won’t notice, but it’s the 2% that do that mean something”
    Killer work, mate

G’day and greetings from Tasmania, the EH was my first car but not a Ute I have very fond memories of her even though I’m 67. You have done a beautiful job of that tailgate I can picture what she will look like when she is finished, it’s great watching you restore it. You’re a good restorer and it’s very pleasing to see that is Aussie restoration instead of the US which bombard RUclips. Take care and look after yourself John

Gorgeous. I love EJ holden. Always had EJ's in early 80's but wanted an EH. when I finally had a couple I wanted to go back to my EJ. The station wagon. Yours is a beaut mate. EJ style tail lights are a nice looking thing. What was one of the greatest parts of the EJ was how much paint was on it and it stuck like the proverbial to a blanket. Well a hell of a lot better than that really. Tight welds, solid panels and no rust. I gotta stop before I go and kick my arse for selling it. Nice touches you're adding. Might have been bloody popular in the 60's like that. The red 149 was a pearler in my one. So smooth the driver would try to start it again at the intersections sometimes but it would still be running. I guess your going for the RB 30 DE (T?) ? That'll be mental A F mate !

I want A hard top for my HD Holden ute too, I was looking at overlapping the top, with a rubber seal under the overlap, so it seals to the top of the ute back to stop water getting in. I'm curious as to how you plan on stopping water getting into the gap between the top and the sides of the ute back ?

That's almost identical to the way 'I'm doing my '39 Ford ute, my main problem is that I can't purchase a outer skin for the tailgate, and I'm unable to hammer in the shape at the top without a power hammer.

Apart from my guillotine and folder it's probably the best bit of equipment I have in the workshop. I don't know how I've gone so long without it. Just having a flat surface to weld on makes all of a difference.
